You guys are ruining his chance to upgrade.

But the next one is going to have to be an all out grand event. I really wish we could spread it out to 2 days and have more time for demos and stuff.

I've had bouts where multiple failures occurred close together. I think sometimes it happens at least once to every hobbyist a certain number of years after starting up, because all the initial equipment was bought around the same time (if bought new). It also happens if all the equipment is from the same manufacturer this having the same quality and longevity. Some of us are just unlucky.

I wanted to see if I could take a picture of something from above, didn't expect to see this. Looks pretty cool. The flow is from a Sea Swirl and a Jabao Crosswave (grye-type pump), kind of intermittently crossing paths. I was trying to take tank pics, since the newly set up tank finally looks half decent (except going through a mini cycle due to all new water and new sand), but for some reason my eyes are blurry, so these might be blurry. I can't seem to get away from reflection in the glass - I'm always afraid a reflection of something embarrassing with show up. FYI, I have no fish right now, and only a couple of snails and tiny hermits. Got LOTS of pods, since my dottyback vanished. I need to work on getting fish, and on getting some corals to fill in all the bare rocks.

Would two different types of clowns form a bonded pair (not necessarily breeding)? I was thinking of getting a skunk and an occi, just to have something different.

You're one of the last people I would have expected to leave. I'll really miss the personality you put into your responses to people's (including mine) posts, so you will definitely have to come put your two cents in now and then.

I'm not the best (or anywhere close to that) to ask about plumbing, but every time I've had that problem, it was because of air getting in the pipe. I had that problem recently because the holes in the tank that flow into the external box, are higher than ideal. I just put an elbow coming out of each hole so the water from the internal box comes out below the water level in the external box. No more flushing, just a quiet, consistent box of water.

I doubt it. Would be nice if the were.

Very nice. -
Orange firefish. There are tank bred purple and helfrichi, but no orange.

Tank location relative to a gas stove
treesprite replied to treesprite's topic in General Discussion
After having the tank filled and 40 lbs of sand (of 200) in it, I emptied it back out and moved it to my bedroom. I realized that in addition to issues being near a gas stove, the type of large apt building I'm now in usually means exterminators, and if it works like other places I have lived, they will come without notice and the tank will be poisoned. Then my family member used some kind of cleaner that made me have an asthma attack, and I don't want that getting in the tank either. I guess I will have to spend most of my time in my room to enjoy the serenity that an aquarium brings to a room. -
I am wondering, do fish change the amount of height of the water column they use depending on the height of the water column? Does a fish who usually stays mid column swim closer to the surface if the water is shallower, or does it restrict itself to maintain a certain distance from the surface? For example, if a fish usually uses the column up to 5" from the surface, will putting it in a tank that is 5" shallower cause the fish to swim close to the surface? I'm asking due to putting in DSB which takes up a good bit of water column height.

My job uses zoom for everything. They use it to do staffeetings, activity groups for our DD clients, fitness classes, yoga, trainings, etc. Zoom lets you choose your amount of privacy. You can keep mic and/or video off if you don't want to share your household's business.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I didn't know Red Sea had one. I just got the Jebao Crosswave 90 a few days ago.

Tank location relative to a gas stove
treesprite replied to treesprite's topic in General Discussion
Thank you for the advice. I ended up putting the tank back where it was. I don't trust the outdated clips used to hold the thing in place, so I secured the thing with bungee cords. It's not coming back down unless someone removes it intentionally. This spot still isn't far from the stove, but at least it isn't next to it, it's across the room. The sliding glass door is behind it, so getting fresh air is easy. If needed, I can stick the airline for the skimmer out the door. -
I was just about to part putting water in my 75g, when all of a sudden the entire strip of vertical blinds came crashing down, almost hitting the tank. I subsequently decided not to put my tank that area. I told my family I wouldn't put the tank in the living room of this new place, but that means the tank will have to be literally a few feet from a gas kitchen stove. My main concern is the gas and byproducts of burning gas. Is this going to cause a problem for the tank? I'm not too concerned about temperature, since that can be controlled.

I believe Tropical Lagoon is open. A friend said last week that she was going there to pick up a tang they said they had in stock. I think they use copper in the FO tanks. The owner has been known to do some bartering, if you have a needed service.

I need cheap and perfect LED! Any thoughts? Impossible?
treesprite replied to Still_human's topic in General Discussion
Are lights still the most expensive thing in reefing? You may eventually change your mind about doing all LED. I think some people are going back half a step to hybrids, and there are a few just going back to what they had before. Either supplementing LED with T5, or supplementing T5 with LED would be good. I can't see using halides in an everyday hobbyist situation now that we have other realistic options. -
I would never win! Good luck to those entering!

Can you get to Maryland testing location? There is free testing with no prescription needed.

Mission accomplished.

LOL Now what's NOT at all funny.... I was just about to drill the bottom glass. Ieasures and marked my hole spots, put the plumbers putty down, went to get something, dropped a piece of wood on the glass. I have a couple more panels of glass, so I'm back to the drawing board on the bottom piece.

Not a perfect job, but I'm trimming the bobbles with the dremmel and diamond-coated disks. I cut from ends and corners of the uncut pieces of glass, so most of the edges are still factory cut.
