  1. I don't know of any spear guns small enough - and I suppose it isn't a big chow hound? Can't catch it on a hook with a worm?? bob
  2. Very nice corals... getting a little crowded, though. Needs to get himself a 200-gallon frag tank. bob
  3. 7" in circumference? I suppose I could divide by pi, but why not just measure the diameter?? bob
  4. I have much sunset monti, but no par meter. It likes a lot of light, though - the best looking pieces are about 6" under my T5's in a frag tank. bob
  5. Not identical - but very similar. They won't cause trouble if you leave them alone - but they will just slowly grow over almost every thing else (frogspawn seems to do them in, and some encrusting corals push them slowly back). I have a rock that is half covered with those, and half covered with green fuzzy mushrooms. They are a good match for one another - I can't tell if one is going to beat out the other or not. If I can get that rock out of the tank - I'll destroy the paly's. Mine are the exact same ones that almost killed Steve. I know, because I got the rock from him, and they were hidden in cracks and crevices, and grew out from there. I would get rid of them if possible, simply because they try to 'take over' everything else, and are pretty successful. I don't know about the green ones - I don't have those. bob
  6. I have found that some zoa's are very sensitive to flow, some to light. Too high flow, they don't grow, too low and they can actually just 'drop polyps'. Other light/flow situations can cause them to 'brown out' - just close up, get kind of brownish, and fade away slowly. We have some people in this club that seem to have excellent results with zoa's. I'd love to hear from some of them as to whether or not they have to move their zoa colonies around to find a 'sweet spot' - or if they just never have any problems at all. I had 2-3 polyps of 'Darth Maul' that died on me within weeks of getting them. Right next to them a very similar paly (nightmare?) grew from 2 polyps to 15 polyps, and then started dropping polyps. I moved it with about 5 polyps left - now it has 4 polyps, but they are larger than before, healthy looking, and starting to grow again. I hate zoa's... bob
  7. WARNING, Will Robinson, WARNING!! Those 'brownish paly's that spread like mad' sound just like the really dangerous ones to mess with. I have been clearing them out of my tank - but I wear a mask, gloves, goggles, and use tools at arms length to chip the rock out from under them. bob
  8. What died?? Your salinity will have gone up up up - but how high? I frequently let my 24-gallon nano evaporate down a few gallons before I 'get a round tuit'. Granted I have only a fish, a lot of algae, and a few softies in there, but nothing seems to get overly-distressed about it. Just add fresh water (I guess you probably did, seeing as you know it was 3 gallons.) and things should be relatively close to normal. If 'things died' - check your ammonia and nitrates, and do some good-sized water changes. bob
  9. Wow... from zero to light-speed in a week! Best of luck!! bob
  10. It's not a colony until I say it's a colony. Which will be the day after it starts encrustng on a rock. Now to find an appropriate rock. bob
  11. You have a point! Anyone have a 400 to sell? bob
  12. Just barely touched it with the mag-float. I think it was as much the weight of the 'table' as the fact I touched it. Happens all the time in nature, I reckon. bob
  13. I think the autosig picture was taken about a year ago. I've had the piece for 3 years. It is a fast grower. At one point, it stretched most of the way across Leishman's tank. Before I cut off one big frag so I could move it (went to either Flowerseller or Davelin), and now that piece fell off - it was well over a foot in all directions, with 4 big 'tables'. I will give it more growing room as I re-aquascape. bob
  14. To make it stick, I'd have to get the colony out of the water. NOT an easy task. I will just glue the 'frag' to a nice sized rock, and let it grow. bob
  15. When my yellow and purple tang were constantly fighting, it seemed like one of the purple tang's 'blades' was stuck like that. But eventually it went back where it belongs. bob
  16. So I was cleaning the glass on the front of my tank - just like I do every few days... but apparently, my Leishman's Red Tabling Acro had grown just a fraction of an inch in the last few days. I just 'touched' the tip of the coral closest to the glass. And broke off a branch!! A foot wide branch!!! bob
  17. Very nice... not a lot of SPS - but I'll bet it looks awesome in a couple of years. Did you get the job? bob
  18. It's been posted before - but worth watching again. bob
  19. They love one of my frag tanks. They grow on the plastic racks. I have been scraping them off with a knife - and the numbers seem to be dropping. They really really annoy some corals. bob
  20. Where does one find 'zebra' hermits? bob
  21. Yawn...
  22. I never have any luck with it - so don't ask ME!! Mine always starts to STN once it starts to grow out like a colony. I end up with frags... and when the frags get big enough - yeah... start to STN and I end up with frags... bob
  23. I can't tell you anything about a Bubble King. But as far as $$$ vs. value - I have an old 'Seaclone 100', which has to be about the cheapest skimmer there ever was. It works great! It just needs to be adjusted frequently. bob
  24. I got a 'ship's clock' to decorate my fish room with. bob
