  1. The pump comes with some grease that's kind of waxy in consistency - about like soft chapstick. As I understand it's a food-grade product, but I'm not sure what it's called.
  2. Just a bucket and dosing pump is real easy. That's all I use. I have a 5 gallon trash can under my stand and fill it with rodi once a week. There is a float valve in the sump and all the top-off comes from the can. You don't even have to measure the kalk! Just dump some in the bucket. There is an article on RC somewhere where they talk about it.
  3. Just curious why you are using a larger sump than display? Is there a reason you don't want to see most of the water? Cool project! Keep up with the pics!
  4. The gentleman that initially helped me get my tank set up feeds his fish with jellied fish food that he makes. He says it's much better and doesn't cause so much waste or deteriorate the water quality as quickly since there is no "dust" when feeding. He freezes the cubes for storage. . .
  5. Just remind them if you can't find some way to take care of things they will have a lot of stinky, dead stuff when they get back!
  6. I'll offer two suggestions and you can take them for what they are worth. 1. I had an art teacher that said all straight lines are bad. Application: don't stack rocks so that they form a wall, you want lots of ins and outs as far as the edge goes. 2. Let the rocks "tell" you where they want to go. Think of it like a jigsaw puzzle. The edges of some rocks will fit against the edge of another. It should help to make it more seamless. Don't despair! It almost never works the first time. (or second or third )
  7. They come running any time I put food in the tank. (I use frozen) I've never seen them actually get on my anem though. Them being desireable / pests is a debate. I've never seen them do anything bad in my tank, but . . .
  8. I have a tile saw. . . looks like of like a hack saw with a different blade. You're welcome to use it.
  9. I drop the frozen cubes in. I make my own food and I've noticed that by just dropping the cube in the tank frozen and letting the fish pick at it there is less "dust" which in turn means less nuisance algae. On the flip side, some of my corals like to eat things and I may squeeze the thawed cube over them from time to time to get them some small particles. . .
  10. Thanks everyone! I'll be contacting you all in the next week or so.
  11. That'd be great, thanks! I'll check with you a little closer to moving time.
  12. I'm going to be moving in a few weeks and would like to borrow enough buckets with lids to transport about 100 gallons of water. Does anyone have some they can lend me? I can get them back to you after Sept 9 as that is my final moving day. Thanks in advance! --Jason
  13. They have authorized naps? . . . I need to change jobs.
  14. woo hoo! pictures! Looking forward to it!
  15. Sorry to see you go, but at least it's a happy reason!
  16. Just use the boiling water in a turkey baster. Suck it in and keep the open end pointing down otherwise it'll all shoot out! The most damage I've ever done is killing off about 1.5"x1" section of coraline, but I was being a little careless then and it grew back in a week or two. We're going to see how good of a shot i am though as I have one hiding in a bunch of yellow polyps. . .
  17. I think what you are actually looking for is called a Wide Flange beam. . . you might try searching for that.
  18. Mine are on till 11:30. . . otherwise I'd never be able to see them. Twice a day would probably mess with them.
  19. Now if only evolution was possible and cyano would grow into something a little more useful. . . like say a $600 frag instead of staying the way it was created.
  20. anyone have a link to a read on this? i want to know what seemingly makes it better.
  21. I have one too. I love it. It runs in my sump so there are no waves and it has never made a sound either. . . I run in mode B.
  22. What makes the bubbles if not a needle wheel? What is it rated for?
  23. For those who the video is not working: You need to install a codec to get it to run. Here is a link to the DivX download page. http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/download/index.php After you download and agree to the license, you can select which parts you want installed. The only part necessary is the first one, the codec (everything in this tree should be checked). You can uncheck everything else. You do not need to install the google toolbar, google desktop or give them your email address. When it is finished, you will be able to play it. Thanks for posting the vid! (sorry for the redundancy, but since this topic is in two threads. . . )

  25. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/nov2002/chem.htm This one explains the problem you are having. There is another one that is fantastic which goes through dosing methods, but I can't find it right now.
