  1. Paul, I hope you didn't view my question as negative. I just want to understand. I have a different view than others might. It is one thing, if you know it is safe for you to use... you might have to worry about a little shock, one you have felt before. I have to worry about an employee using it, and what if he leaves it in a customers home and a kid pickes it up... then nobody gets hurt but I get a business cripler law suit anyway. My income, mortgage payment and kids tuition fund are dependant on this stuff. Sure there are 1,000 UL listed products that could kill you if you take em swimming with you, and I could leave a pack of matches laying around and a kid could start a fire. Then to bring it home to this industry a Maxi Jet pump is UL listed and I've had those things shock me so hard I screamed like I dunno what. Clearly whatever voltage it has is going right into the water intentionally, so the level must be intended to be safe. But to say it "you can not get a shock..." I don't know... anything is possible. Suppose someone puts it into a power strip under their aquarium and water drips down the cord... it could happen. We are talking about something that gets plugged into a 110 outlet and then the live end goes onto a big bowl of water along with a human hand. I think asking about safty issues is legitimate. I'm sure you will have saftey directions, disclaimers and such. ANYWAY, congrats on getting this thing to market and I do still want one. Actually I want 3: short, normal and XL handle... wait, the customized option just went away, didn't it? I snoozed I loosed.
  2. I got a letter from United Pet Group though one of the pet industries largest retail supply chain organizations on the east coast. No way to know it is real, it could be fake, but really?? How do I post a PDF file?
  3. All Stealth and Stealth Pro heaters 100w and up. I was a fan because they would shut off if they rand dry and got too hot. We stopped using them about a year ago because they "leaked" a little "juice" into the water. I guess they have made it official and pulled the plug.
  4. I wanted one, but worried about the liability. Will they be UA listed?
  5. Actually, yes we may be very soon. Summer internship, part time, full time... unknown. Will be looking for a service tech and probably a part time book keeper with a little aquarium background. The big factor is getting into the new larger location. HVAC is done Plumbing is roughed in and Electrical on the new shop should be done early next week. Next on to drywall, paint, floor and finally the "Fun" work begins.
  6. Fire The chilled water loop that was dammaged (part of the HVAC) was the main cooling system for the display tank. SO, it was an exciting day of watching what the tank temperature would do, making minor changes to lighting, pumps etc and finally setting up a pair of drop in 1/4 HP chillers... but the temp never moved more than 2 degrees. It is nice working with 2,000 gallon systems. SO, everything is fine. The biggest job was keeping all the people involved in overseeing the aquarium informed.
  7. *Do I need the new live sand? >> NO absolutly not. We have started dozens of tanks with "dry" sand and (now hear is the catch) 100% cured live rock and added fish and coral within a week. Can I combine new live with new dry aragonite? >> Sure, but the dry rock is NOT cured there is a ton of dead dry organics in that stuff. You will see when you get it in... add it to water and it will stink up your whole house. Can I use existing 90G sand? >> I would not. Little benifit, lots of risk. Rinse, over and over with tap water to "clean" and save a few $ on new dry sand, but clean all the old junk out of it. **Is this plan too aggressive? >> Yep. (sorry had to have some bad news) Where is this "new" live rock coming from? Step 6 has you adding fish from an established system to a tank with new live rock and live sand before it is even filled with water... I can't see that ending well. In fact, unless I'm misunderstanding something, I'd bet everything would be dead in 2 days. ***Can you offer any advice or recommendations to this plan? Everything (rock and sand) MUST be cured which can take 6+ weeks, AND all the waste from that curing process must be gone prior to adding livestock.
  8. PH is low. Where are you getting the fish? How do you aclimate? Temp? Alalinity? Stray electricity?
  9. We work with one of the best custom builders on the planet. It is top of the line, 10 yr warranty stuff... not a 90 day glass cage, so it isn't rock bottom price, but it is a fair price for the quality. Send me your specs and we can work up an estimate for you. Phil
  10. Stuff in the tank you wouldn't recomend and you thought we were taking care of it??? Et tu Bobby? (I've no idea how to spell that... you know... like when that salad guy got stabbed in the back?) Seriously tho, just glad to hear all is well.
  11. Nope. So you gave em my card, which you have on you at all times just in case, right Bob? But the important question: Why were you there??? Everything okay?
  12. I agree with Dave. Sounds like it is running better.
  13. I was all set to vote for you Bob, but you are winning by so much and I'd need to register to vote. Plus the 2nd place banner is pretty but unreadable, couldn't possibly win. If it gets close... sigh... I'll register.
  14. Yer not going to like it, but... I've seen nothing but pain from the OM products. Some never work right, others are great for a year then fail. I've probably seen 10 or 12 including one squirt I had on my personal 180g tank, but I don't think I've ever seen one older than 2 years that was still funtional. I think with the new propeller pumps tunze, vortec and even the new Korallia closed loops really aren't needed anymore. That all said, if you are going to have a chiller, the velocity series pumps have no external fan, and are water cooled... but dead silent. Maybe drill another drain hole, and have 2 small pumps each going to 2 retun holes and alternate your flow manually with valves.
  15. dump sand in and then place the frags in the sand... solves 2 problems at the same time :o)
  16. After the video of the 50g tank, I felt the need to put up a picture of something a bit more impressive aquarium wise. This is a 108x28x36 currently being built by CtC for one of our customers. More pics on the facebook page and more to be added as the project progresses.

Thanks Rob, I will keep that in mind if the holidays pack on 65 #s and I need to get back in shape for swimsuit season. You may get a call from Bob in Leesburg, I gave him your name.

Easy buddy. I can always lose weight... I'm sure you know where this is going.
  22. We picked up a new time lapse camera this week and I tested it out today on a little renovation project. Posted it to our Facebook page... sigh I guess the next thing you know I'll be setting up a You Tube page. Renovation Video Link
  23. Easy answer. It depends. How do you feel about a big ugly motor hanging on the outside of each side of your tank? (Seriosly, I love mine, but if it was in a dentist's office where someone could pull the pump off it would not be a good thing.) Would you rather have 2 little pumps hiden on the back walls / overflows? What do you plan to have in the tank? SPS? LPS? Softies? All of the above? What kind of fish? You have narrowed down to the 2 best IMHO... good for you. Now it is up to personal preferance, Tunze 6105s w/wavemaker are about the same cost as 2 MP40s.
  24. Drain and relocate to a external / load bearing wall perpindicular to the floor joists. If it is level empty and 3/4 inch out when full you are bending one of the joists 3/4 of an inch... I'm guessing you have 80% of the load on a single joist, at or near center of the joist. This can not end well.
  25. Look out, take a 2nd look before you make any changes. Is that really recession? You may just have some really good growth going on. I get this phone call all the time when we take over managment of an aquarium where people have never seen good SPS growth... the coral puts down aragonite faster than the zoanthellia Ca and Alk are a bit high.
