  1. I got one several years back and I wish I hadn't. The one I got started eating flatworms within 5 minutes, but it could not stay in one location very long. The flow in the tank would lift it up and blow it around the tank until it eventually got sucked up by the powerhead. Looking back at that mistake, the only way I could have kept it long term was to reduce my flow down as low as possible to almost nothing. Keep in mind that while these slugs will eat flatworms they will never be able to get all of them so the FW will come back. The only way to get rid of FW is to kill them all at once and the only way to ensure that is to treat the entire tank at once. I would recommend a chemical treatment over a specialized hunter.
  2. The first step to a rainfords goby is making sure you didn't get one with a pinched stomach. If that was OK than if you have a decent sized sandbed with medium to small (not crushed coral) grains you should be fine. The smaller size because they will scoop up a mouth full and filter out their prey before shooting the sand out their gill openings. I don't think they are as interested in the algae as the other small critters that feed/live within the algae. I've had two in the past and one did great for over a year without ever feeding off anything I tossed into the tank. The second did not eat very well and I suspect that it was already declining by the time I got it.

  8. I really like the tank dimensions. This is going to be great! Why did you decide to use a pump to feed the refugium vs an baffle (overflow)? I would think that using a pump adds more risk to issues like pump failure, keeping skimmer compartment water level stable, and flooding during power outages. Just curious.
  9. You could try placing a mirror at the opposite end of the tank that you are working in. It may not distract the clown the entire time, but it may decrease their interest in your hand.

  12. You want me to rig the votes? I'm kidding, but I did place my vote for #13. I was going to vote for that one before I even knew it was yours.
  13. Great job, and thank you from another 9002 owner!
  14. They have some fiberglass stuff: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xh7/R-100390885/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
  15. http://www.zoyzoy.com/aquarium/aquariumstoresmap.php Browse over to the area between DC and Philly. I stopped in at www.eastcoastaquatics.com one time and it was pretty nice and just outside Philly.

  17. Do you not like your dry rock? You could easily seed it with some live rock and save money. Additionally, if you are only looking for RO/DI water, why not purchase some distilled water from Walmart or your local grocery store. The price will be the same as what a LFS sells it for and you can buy several gallons at a time vs being limited to the type of container you can bring or purchase. Then again if you wanted to skip a step and buy salt water, a LFS in the area would work out well.
  18. These came up recently at R2R and I've seen them a lot but I could not point out a name, but I think I may have found something pretty close to it. Sun Burst http://www.coralpedia.com/index.php?module=Gallery2&g2_itemId=406 Thank you for bringing this one up
  19. Go with the individual timers, those Coralife power centers do not have a good reputation (at least the old models): http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=584645&perpage=25&pagenumber=1 http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=580767
  20. The least stressful way is to break or cut (diamond dremel blade) the rock so you don't have to actually remove the mat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBNdmJo3jfc
  21. If you can get it to eat pellets here is a neat way of providing a buffet: http://www.melevsreef.com/mandarin_diner.html But make sure to note that his comment was that his mandarin was already eating prepared foods.
  22. I've also had issues with peppermints eating my anemone. The shrimp would go up to the anemone, clip a tentacle and run off to the back of the tank. I wasn't feed the tank so there was nothing to entice the shrimp to go after the anemone. Sexy Shrimp are also on my do not buy list.
