  1. I wanted to find a good source for a small maroon clown. Most LFS have poor standards and sell clowns that are too large for me to try pairing my current maroon. I didn't want to risk with wild caught clowns knowing that a majority have parasaites and other problems. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, Luciano
  2. Try catching them at night. You could chase them down all day and stress them out like crazy, but if you wait for their down time it will be easier to scoop them. This is even easier if the clown has an anemone that it hosts in
  3. I picked one up from Rooznes. I got a pretty good size and my clown took to it like a charm. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Luciano
  4. Thanks larry, I'll call them today, and see if I get lucky!
  5. My maroon clown looks lonely and my water quality is stable and adequate. I was hoping someone had a good split recently or knows of one I could get for around $40. I have recently made an LED setup and could make one to fit your tank. My bulbs are 470nm +- 5nm, 5mm size, and a sharp blue. Depending on what you would like I could wire them like I did with mine. On a ac/dc converter with adjustable voltage which allows you to change the intensity (manually). I can update you on corals if necessary. Any good stores with RBTAs around that price?
  6. Yeah if anyone has some xenia Let's arrange something. My email is lgomes1@umbc.edu Leave me your phone or address and we can set something up. Xenia are pretty easy to keep. Infact they are basically a weed. The reason I am looking for any soft coral is cause I only have PC lighting. 4x65w with two 10,000k and actinic. If you want to start something easy try and get some from the good people of your local reef club! They charge a butt load at LFS for something that grows out of control at times!
  7. Nope not congressional but I know what you mean. I was actually talking about Tropical fish World. It is on Georgia Ave, about where it meets with Connecticut. The store itself is next to a Outback Steak house. They had an Xenia in there that wasn't even as thick as a pencil up for $30. I did see an anemone dying in their tank and it was a bit discouraging. The other anemone looked ok though. That place is just nasty, brown algae everywhere! The only cool thing about the store is that underneath their sw tanks there is a little pond/pool thing setup with a few sharks swimming around. Huge setup, real nice for the sharks, (on just a visual basis). I purchased my skimmer from someone and he said that I could come by and pick up some xenia once my tank was setup, but this was about 3 or 4 months ago so I'm not sure if I will overstep my welcome. He told me that they grow rediculously fast and he flushes them about every week or two. Hey if you got it to give away, then I'll take it is what I told him.
  8. For many xenias grow like crazy ild so they toss them out to avoid having them take over. How bout instead of tossing them, you let me come and pick them up! I have seen some really poor xenias for sale at LFS, but I can't see myself paying $35 for the garbage they have there. So before you toss send me an email! lgomes1@umbc.edu thanks, Luciano
  9. Goblin, Not sure what you mean by bad part of town. The area is actually not bad at all. ild I do think that the store could use more parking. IMO if your going to make any drive to go somewhere it should be up to the Aquarium Center. They have tons of things, including live stock. It is off of 695 so it would take some time [tm] to get there from N. VA. Now that the weather is nice, why not. I abused my icon priv Luciano
  10. I am definetly interested. :D Let me know: Where you got it from? How much you are willing to part with, and cost? Thank you for looking and replying, it's always nice to get encouragement when your just starting out!
  11. I must admit, you guys are really helpful. I do appreciate the responces to my post. Does anyone use the Plenum method for their substrate? I was considering using it as just a backup but various places have said that it isn't really necessary if you have LS + LR + and a Protein skimmer. Anyone have input on their method?
  12. Thanks for the reply, I checked online for the reeftank, but I'm not sure if I could find it. In which city is it located? Tell me more about Dr. Mac.
  13. Hello everybody, I am new to the reef keeping hobby, and this group. What I wanted to know was where everyone got their live rock? I live in the DC metropolitan area and have been having a hard time finding live rock at a reasonable price online. If anyone knows of a good site, or is interested in selling some, please let me know!!
