TANK TOURS 2006 revisited

Recommended Posts

I started a thread in late January trying to get TANK TOURS 2006 off the ground and running. While I had several replies and promises to open up and have a tour, I couldn't get anyone to commit to a date to show.

If you promised to show in the thread above, please look at your calendars, pick a date, and show your tank.

I can't begin to tell you how much this can help everyone in this club to get this going and show your tanks.

It's not that hard......

You pick a date, people come, you show your tank. It's really that simple.

We're starting the tour and showing our tank on Sunday, July 30th from 2:00-4:00.

We live in McLean and have a 220g mixed reef and a 30g breeder grow out facility.

Most, if not all, our equipment and contraptions are DIY and some have been in operation for as long as 15 years or more.

Chip - I was just thinking about this last week. I'm going to start e-mailing folks I know in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area, see of there is any interest and see if we can settle on a date.

I'll do Aug 13th

Great!! I'll see you then and thanks a bunch!

Please start a thread about 2 weeks prior or better yet, do it today.

I would love to have people come over, if there's interest in a MD tour in August.

Just pick a date and start a thread. It's fun!

Great! I'd like to hit that tour myself. Please pick a date, start a thread and have some fun.

If you show, they will come.

If your on the fence about showing, JUST DO IT!

If you're smart, you decide to have a tour (show your tank) and anyone who chooses can drop by anytime during your showing. They may stay as long as your tour lasts or simply pop in and pop out.

While your tour is going on, we get a chance to see and hear how you're doing it.

Many a time I've had a glaring issue and got plenty of well thought out suggestions.

I've also had the BOZO guestions like "Why does the water flow down"?

Some offer suggestions and some drive straight home and start doing things the way you do.

IT'S ALL OUT SHARING INFO AND LEARNING.

If you decide showing is not for you, you simply decide which tours you want to see and go see them during the times the host has offered.

IT'S ALL OUT SHARING INFO AND LEARNING.

OK...I'm up for giving a tank tour...

Anyone else in the Alexandria/Springfield/Kingstowne area want to show their tank as well? Then we can have 2+ tank tours the same day in this area?

2nd week in August or later will work for me...no sooner.

I'm in Chevy Chase, MD, a few miles north of you. Right where DC comes to a point at the top.

Assuming the boss agrees, the 13th should work for me.

People should probably hit my place first, though. It will make Rik and Eve's tanks seem that much better :D

Howard, just lay off the viagra for that day, you won't need it.

This may be a first but the Gaithersburg/Germantown area may have two tour dates. A few can do August, but one person can't do until October (house remodeling issues) :-) We're working on an August date first - then we'll do an October date.

Question about personal preferences: If you had a choice, would you prefer to see tanks on Saturday and Sunday of the same weekend or just one day (Saturday or Sunday) in a weekend. Sometimes when you have kids, spouse, responsibilities it's hard to get out two days in a row for tank stuff :-)

Also - anyone in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area interested please post here or PM me so we can include you in the date we select.

We could also include the Rockville area (rsaavedra/PupChow/Janie - interested?) - it's pretty much "in the area" for anyone coming from Virginia :-)

I'll do the 13th in the afternoon then. I'll work out the detail @ home then start a thread.

How much do we charge for admission to these gatherings

Looks like we're off to a good start.

If Bob & Tamie are'nt able to show their tank on the 30th since they are also in McLean, then maybe we can encourage Emmy to show his since he's just over the line in Vienna.

Craig, when are you guys out that way showing?

(edited)

I have my tank tour the same day open to everyone with WAMAS but, in the next month if there is someone out this way that wants to show their tank I probably will be able to do it the same day to make it more worth while of a trip.

Chip, you are welcome to come any time to see the work in progress.

For the public, once I finish painting walls in rest of the room the tank is located and finish adding frag tank.

It is likely, but not certain, I can participate in the tank tour on 7/30. I am in Vienna, about 10 minutes driving time distant from Chip's. Not that my tank is all that special, but I am planning on making some changes (making a new overflow) as a conversation starter. David

Then you are a perfect canidate to show.

The best part is having people come look and share their experiences.

It will save you a ton in money and frustration not having to try and "reinvent the wheel".

Any chance you can show before, after, or during my tour which is from 2:00-4:00?

They can be simaltanious or overlapping since most people come for average 20-30 minute visits.

Thanks for joining in on the fun.

Ok - Chris (cbshaw) and I will go in with the tank tour group on Sunday, August 13th (Rik's). I'm going to contact a few other people in the area and extend an "ingraved invitation" to participate.

I'll update if we get more - but I'll also keep track of how many we'll have on the 13th since the area is expanding. Too many people on the same date might not be such a good thing either.
