Anyone replaced the ballast on ATI powermodule?

I have ATI 24 8 bulb powermodule needs two new ballast.

I just don't know where to begin.. don't want to get fried myself.~

let me know~

PM DCReefer1964, I think Haywood has done it.

I don't think it's that complicated, that being said, I've not done it. YouTube like epleeds said, has everything.

thanks.. now I ordered the ballasts.. I will keep you updated.

man, it's not fun ..^>^

i've done a few. the dimmable sunpower units are much easier and well-designed in that you can slide the entire guts out as a tray to work on it. the power modules require a bit more persistent and patience in removing the ballast and wiring carefully. watch out for exposed wire and fraying ends on the sharp aluminum and take your time. i have extra ballasts and would be glad to help if you need it. just shoot me a PM if that's the case. g'luck!

I think I messed it up..

I thought I followed the direction marking all the wires .. it's not responding..

it was on when I plug both of them.. and middle parts (4 bulbs.. just blinking and off).

what should I do?.. hm.. I may want to put LED in the middle section...~

Never mind guys..spent too much time and didn't work.

.I will just put LED unit into the middle section.~..

any suggestion?

Just read this, I think Isaac is now in the same boat as of Nov 8th when his ATI took a bath without asking.

I made 6 out of 8 work.. without any electric shock....

it was triumph for me.. I am going to put Current USA orbit Marine Aquarium LED light to the slot that doesn't work..

any other LED retro fit or something?

21 LED USA has a cheaper version than the branded Current ones. I am using two to adjust color in my tank and I'm quite happy. They also have a pro version with 3W LEDs.

thanks ..~I checked their link..i think this one better cause it's very simple options that I need.~

I will have two of them and put them into my ATI unit.~

I will be changing mine soon, but I believe my model is easier to work with.

The ballasts have the wiring diagrams pictured on them.

I sat the new ballast next to the old one, and just transfered each respective wire over one by one, that way I knew it was going into the correct place.

Question; what type of bit is used to remove the ballast?  It looks like a star, but isn't an allen wrench...

I am about to replace a ballast in my powermodule as well, and need to buy this type of bit and a small 7mm wrench to get the old ballast out.

I've always used an alan wrench. If I recall correctly, I used the same one that undid the fixture fittings.

I am going to get this set. One of these will be the right size, and I won't ever be so frustrated again trying to unscrew something.

I have a full torx set from wrenching on my old Wrangler, it's possible I used it.
