This GBTA was in Gary's frag tank and he insisted that he did not want it in there, stating that "all it does is float around". It appeared to be very healthy, but was just sitting there between a couple of rocks and not attached. I'm not sure how long ago he got it, or what was it doing before he got it. Maybe it's foot is bad,but it just looks all smooth.

Well, I took the thing home. I thought if I trapped it between some rocks it would be ok. The first couple days it was fine, then yesterday I found it upside down so I had to remove it. I put it on the bottom of the tank between a couple rocks and it opened up and extended itself again there. This morning, it was in the back of the rock (thank goodness for open rockwork), upside down again, shriveled because it was upside down. I put it between some rocks again. I had to turn off a powerhead (stupid to have them, but my wave making device was not repaired or replaced). It looks fine right now, but I'm sure it's going to happen again. I can keep rescuing it every time, but the problem right now is that I am going to be gone for a couple of days and there will be no one to rescue it in my absence.

Anyone have suggestions for what to do about this creature?

Can you put it in a small plastic bowl? That's a tough situation. I've not heard of a way to force them to attach - keeping it safe would probably be best for now...and screen your powerheads.

Is it a recent split? I would go to local aquatics store and buy mesh basket. Use old magnets to attach basket to glass. Maybe it will grow a foot while you are out of town.

Here's a pic of the foot, taken tonight; as you can see, it is not sticking itself to the rock. Fortunately, the anemone did not move anywhere while I was away.

or one of these if you can find one. (all my stores have switched to recycled paper.)

I have not seen one of those in years. All the stores I visit use clear plastic containers.

You might be able to make one out of eggcrate and zip ties. I let ricordeas attach to rubble in a chinese soup container for awhile. It wasnt pretty but it worked D:

Make one out of zip ties and that cheap plastic mesh canvas. Shouldn't cost more than $5

Some real DIY!

Has it taken hold of anything yet?

Just enough to have kept itself from floating out of the spot it has been in for several days. I don;t like it on the bottom of the tank, but if that is what makes it "happy", I am just going to leave it alone. It is conveniently right below the duncan my clowns host in, so maybe the clowns will notice it.

Sometimes they just move alot until they find their spot.  The shriveled up was probably from the tank move.  I recently traded away a nem because it wouldnt settle down.  once it went into the guys tank a clown hosted it and bam... good to go.

It let go and was a couple inches from that spot, and looking shriveled, so I re-positioned it in the same spot it has been in for a few days.

This is what I found when I got home tonight:

I flushed it down the toilet. Twice when I had to turn it right-side up, it squirted out a bunch of white stuff. I think it got itself upside down again blocking it's mouth for too long. It was upright and looking ok when I left for work, but that mess in the net is what was there when I came home, sitting in the same spot where I left it in the morning. I feel bad about it dying like that. I would like to know what the red thing is in that mess.
