turbo2oh June 21, 2014 June 21, 2014 Is it a terrible idea to design a stand where the sump can't be removed? I seem to have engineered myself into a corner unfortunately. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
John Ford June 21, 2014 June 21, 2014 I built a stand so I could remove my sump. It's all what you want in the end. I had baffels break on my old sump and it was hard trying to fix them while my sump was wedged in there. If I could take it out I could have put a temp Tupperware tub in it and ran my tank for a few days while the silicone was drying.

treesprite June 22, 2014 June 22, 2014 I made my stand such that I can easily unsrew the lower screw of the back center brace and just push it out of my way, then screw it back (I'm not keeping a sump in there anymore because I wanted a bigger sump, and didn;t want water and electricity in the same place)
scott3569 June 22, 2014 June 22, 2014 When I built my stand, I wasn't thinking about having the sump I have now(a 40breader), in order for me to clean the skimmer I have to slide the sump partly out to get the skimmer out..the next stand I build it will be taller with a shorter tank I will build the tank also.
Origami June 23, 2014 June 23, 2014 When I had my 90 (years ago), I was short-sighted and built the stand with a center brace near the cabinet doors. The doorways were small enough that the best I could do was to insert a 20H in, and only if I stood the sump on end first. This meant that, any time I'd want to take the sump out for any repair or modification, I'd have to completely empty it and use towels to dry it out before removing it. It was a pain in the butt, and I learned something from it, but (probably for this reason) I never had to remove the sump all that often. If you've not completed the stand and can leave a side panel so that it can be easily removed, then this may give you a way out of a situation where your sump is trapped. Bottom line: You'll be able to live with it (because you're forced to), but you'll wish from time to time that you hadn't done it that way.

Could not have put this better. I had the same problem with my former 90g. Sump only went in if it was on its edge standing up...
