matt March 19, 2014 March 19, 2014 Ha! It's NOTHING compared to Monkiboy's from the pictures I've seen. There are definitely changes that I'd make. To be fair to myself, a lot of my spare time over the last 33 months building out the basement in our new-to-us home since moving from Ashburn. Early on, I had a tank crash after trying to do too much too soon while moving the tank, and lost nearly all of my corals. (Nothing good every happens fast in a reef tank.) After spending 6 months praying for some recovery, I collected over 5 gallons of new "crushed coral" for my calcium reactor from what used to be alive and thriving. Anyway, the tank doesn't get nearly the attention that the basement project has been getting. Thankfully, I think I'll finally be done by the time summer rolls around. Here's what I did this past weekend: Put in a new floor, baseboard and shoe moulding in what will be my home office. Jenn, when you saw this room the other day, the floor was concrete. Nice flooring job! That DIY is in my not-too-distant future as well...and why I'm going to have to move my tank...ugh
Origami March 19, 2014 March 19, 2014 Nice flooring job! That DIY is in my not-too-distant future as well...and why I'm going to have to move my tank...ugh Thanks. It's the first time for me for flooring like this. I've done tile, linoleum and carpet before, but not laminate. One room down and another plus a hallway to go. 42 boxes of laminate overall for this part of the basement (what I affectionately refer to as "Phase III").
AlanM March 19, 2014 March 19, 2014 I can't really believe that a thread is posted on getting pics of the officer's tanks and Tom posts up a picture of his bare floor and he doesn't get jumped on for posting laminate flooring, but no tanks. Sheesh, Tom, post up the tank FTS! (Nice floor, btw, what's that red outlet next to the power on the right wall?)
YHSublime March 19, 2014 March 19, 2014 I would consider your living room a "fish room" haha It's dual purpose, that's how us city folk work. I can't really believe that a thread is posted on getting pics of the officer's tanks and Tom posts up a picture of his bare floor and he doesn't get jumped on for posting laminate flooring, but no tanks. Sheesh, Tom, post up the tank FTS! (Nice floor, btw, what's that red outlet next to the power on the right wall?) Great point, Alan! I am eager to see Origami's tank as well!

You're actually looking into a low voltage box there where I've dragged 2 Cat5e cables and a coax. There are 4 such drops in this room. I like hardwired connections where possible. I've yet to terminate these - will be ordering the parts tonight. That's why you're looking into the box.
pizzaguy March 19, 2014 Author March 19, 2014 Tom. You can't avoid this one. It's power and peer pressure in numbers. Haha
Origami March 20, 2014 March 20, 2014 Ok. Here's where I am today with the tank. As you can see, I've not completely finished trimming out the doors. I'll get to it when the big stuff is done. In the meantime, the display is a mish-mash of mature colonies, mini colonies started from tiny frags, and other stuff. I'm looking forward to the time I can actually spend more time with it. In the meantime, it's pretty stable and operating on cruise control on most days. Sent from my LG G-Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition
davelin315 March 20, 2014 March 20, 2014 My tank is in a state of limbo - lost all corals a couple of years ago to an overflowing toilet the floor above and lost all fish to a velvet outbreak... Still deciding how to proceed and whether to tear down and start over or do a borough cleaning and disinfection and then reseed. Further complicating the decision is a much larger tank sitting in my garage waiting to be installed as a replacement of the current tank. My build thread is pretty old but linked below...
