It's been 2 weeks since my upgrade. Everything's fine and happy. But two tiny clowns and a kupang aren't much to look at.

What is a good big fish (not huge) colorful active. Hang out in the middle. And not wont nip at coral?

Vince told me all angels nip at corals.

I was gonna get a tiny hippo to keep a few years but their too delicate. And Steve said yellow tangs should go last. And I still don't have a stock list.

I won't be adding alot of fish at once. Ill do one fish every week or two.

What about a one spot foxface ? Their pretty big the size you buy them at. Might crash my bio load.

Tank is 65gal. No sump. Hob skimmer. Hob filters hob fuges (without chaeto can't seem to get my hands on any since a month)

The foxface will be fine, I think. They are fast growers and can get very large in a few years, so be forewarned. Also, know in advance that they have poisonous spines along their dorsal fin. If you're concerned about the bioload, then you can begin ghost feeding the tank a week or so in advance of getting the fish. Just add a little extra food to the tank everyday, gradually increasing it to encourage bacteria growth. However, that said, if you're parameters are stable, is probably just get it and go from there.

Wow so many people with free chaeto on here. Don't be afraid to drive a little bit to get some. Side note I agree with Tom. Fox face is a good one, but they grow faster than almost any fish I have had. Being poisonous definitely doesn't go in their favor. Keep in mind they can be very shy at times as well. What about an anthiast or two. Maybe one of the many beautiful reef safe wrasses out there. Just my 2 cents.

Vince would be clearly mistaken if he said that all angels nip at corals. This is simply not true. Many angels ignore corals if they are healthy (the corals). Generally speaking, pygmy angels are reef safe. Argi, Coral Beauty, Potters are good choices with corals.

Anthias prob won't live very long in your set-up because they need to eat multiple times per day. Save your money for something more hardy.

A single wrasse would be good although you'll have to make the tank escape proof.

Perhaps a Flame or Longnose hawkfish will be a better overall choice?

Fwiw foxfaces will eat coral especially zoanthids if not fed properly. You need to give them algae sheets if you don't have an abundance growing in the tank. I agree with rob that a flame hawk would be a great choice, i also think a cool blenny would be good choice.

Also i wouldn't add a fish every week or two, maybe every month or so.

Though there are many reasons to avoid poisonous things in the tank, having kids who are excited to participate should probably make you a little more cautious. I totally agree with pygmy angels being fine - there are a couple that should be especially fine. Plus, you said you were not doing corals. It would be easy enough to rehome if necessary. Wrasses are good too (read the wrasse link on the "flasher wrasse" thread.).

In the meantime, grab a couple of skunk cleaner shrimp. Very colorful and mine are always on the go.

The foxface would be fine for a few years until it got too big. Just have Vince order a nice 2" one for you. They are very hardy and a good choice for you. As was mentioned they can eat zoanthid type corals. Look into some hardy fish like basslets and hawkfish that don't get as big as a foxface.

Everyone has different experiences with angels both the large and small types. Most do seem to nip at corals and I've had some of the ones that Z2K listed that did, but there are some people that get lucky and keep an angel that doesn't nip. If there is an angelfish that you really like I would give it a try and if it does become a coral nipper I would just find it a new home.

Josh, I ruled out basslets as you were looking for something large. However, several chalk basslets may be a nice addition.

I've had a coral beauty (a dwarf angel) for many years now and it's not much of a nipper at all. However, at one point, I had a flame angel in a nano that would occasionally nip at zoas (but not to excess).

My 65g stocklist:

1 Royal Gramma

2 occelaris clown

1 fire fish

2 orange-line chromis

1 orange spot diamond goby

1 yellow coris wrasse

1 one spot foxface

1 blue hippo tang

1 green mandarin

That is in the order that they were introduced. May not match what your looking for, but since I have same size tank, figured it would be a good reference.
