Possible Tunze Stream and Ecotech Vortech kill

One of my Tunze streams died a few months ago and I am thinking of trying the "possible" Stream and Vortech killer.

3500 gph for $85 and it include a controller.

Free three inch Yellow Tang to anyone who can guess the product first. I will post the name and respective link to the product at 9pm EST, unless one lucky hobbyist can accurately guess.

I would like the front half Chad. Just kidding.

You can have the tang.

There are several videos on Youtube as well.

So far, I like what I am reading. Waiting for someone to confirm the size of the WP-40. Also, a WP-20 model will be hitting the streets in a few weeks. Supposed to be half the size and flow of the WP-40. Some say that there is a slight hum during the ramp-up and down during the reef crest mode. I plan to run the pump at 100% all day every day anyway.

Looks potentially promising...if only people figure out a way through PWM or voltage regulation to alter the power output. Seems as is that it will provide way too much flow for most tanks less than 120gal or so or have to be restricted to the non wave action mode that allows power variability. I will be watching the further developments though for sure.

Wait for the WP-20 model, I guess it would be in the 2,000 gph range. I am hearing that two WP-40s are recommended for 220g and up. Six foot and above tanks.

These Chinese pumps will not put out the labeled output. I got something that states it will output 3000gph max flow. but it's hardly enough for a 40gallon breeder. The wave feature is nice however.

So, Ha, do you have one?

not this exact one. but something with similar rating and controller, but much bigger in size too, been like over 2 years now, i'll have to look it up when i get home.

Have you seen the review videos? One pump is moving a lot of water in a six foot tank.

Have not, but at $80, I would give it a try myself :)

  • 2 weeks later...

People seem to be missing the fact that its just another powerhead... The cable is in the tank (hence, it isn't designed anything like a Vortech) and is a major risk - it will most likely not be UL listed. Definitely check into that. The beauty of the vortech is in the lack of electrical lines in the tank and correspondingly reduced heat and internal space consumption.

Not to say it won't move water, but this isn't unique.

i do like the cord not in the tank

heat transfer i actually am liking these day ...free heater..your already paying for it to move might as well use the heat...i can see in the summer if you have heat issues but i havent had to deal with that and hopefully wont.

definately an interesting pump...id try this over a koralia anyday....and maybe soon....

look forward to the review
