Does anyone have one that they are willing to let me borrow? I have some hair algae that is out of hand (7-8" long now) and covering the sand also.

I don't know how long I will need it for but can't imagine its longer than a couple weeks

Thanks

The Sea Hare will have a short lifespan in your tank because it is too new. Ride it out and get a herbivorous fish that will eat the HA.

Why do you think that? If the tank is cycled what would cause it to die? To me about the only time they can really survive is when the tank is full of algae and most tanks as they mature lose the algae and the ability to support a sea hare.

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, MBVette

All good.

As I told rob in a pm. I have no interest in keeping a sea hare long term since I know I won't be able to support it (at least I hope).

Petland might be getting a sea hair in tomorrow if they do I will swing down there and pick one up. And I will put up a post asking if anyone needs it in a few weeks when I'm done with it.

So I picked up the sea hare from petland this afternoon in the 1.5 hours it has been in the tank it has made a 1/2" line that goes about 6" across a rock. These things are awesome.

We really need pictures. Better yet, time lapse photography.

He has moved off the top rock I placed him onto, he is not on the underside where there is not much, but he is getting around. I just took one pic, will take another in the morning.

So do you know what's causing all of that algae to grow? Seems like if he mows it all down and it's not a transient problem it will come right back.

Well if it comes right back I will have a constant supply of algae for the sea hare to eat

I have no idea what's causing it. When I tested yesterday I was testing 0 across the board. I know the algae is hiding some of the issues. But nothing is out of hand.

They don't take long once placed into the tank to start going to work. As he mows it down what is looked up in his waste can be removed by your filter system so that will help export the nutrients.

so I just found him after looking around his 6 this morning. He has moved from the right side to the left side of the tank and from the highest point down to the sand bed. He is currently hiding between the sand and a rock in a little cave. Wow he is hard to find since he blends right into the rock.

after hiding under a rock all day he just came out now that the lights were just about out. I was worried since he hid under a rock all day. seahare.jpeg

mine would disappear for a day or two at a time sometimes. dont worry about him. he'll be fine until you run out of HA.

Maybe he was just sleeping off the big meal.

So this guys obviously doesnt like the light, b/c he is back in his hole again this morning. So far he doesnt seem to be doing as much as I thought he would have; it looks like he cleaned about a 4x4" patch last night.

Its all good. Between the 10 turbos I added last week and him, I think in about a month the tank should be clean.

He is out in the tall grass this evening! Can't wait to see what he accomplishes tonight.

Oh and you can see his little green poops everywhere. Should I go get some more snails so they clean that up?

Is there anything to get to clean that up, or it is what it is. And the skimmer will take care of it as it breaks down.
