Jan October 28, 2012 October 28, 2012 This little blob has a mouth and is growing tentacles. You can see it again here next to the anemone fish.
smallreef October 28, 2012 October 28, 2012 Hhhrrrmmm interesting...im didnMt know bta's can do this without cloning/splitting? Keep an eye on it and update us when it starts to color up....
Jan October 28, 2012 Author October 28, 2012 (edited) I didn't either until Holly mentioned it in a post and then Tom. Then this thing emerged. As it's gotten bigger I can see little individual tentacles and a white mouth. It blows up like an anemone and moves around. Minh B. October 28, 2012 October 28, 2012 That's really cool. What's the growth/maturity rate for that baby or how long will it take to get to its mama's size?
Jan October 28, 2012 Author October 28, 2012 I have no idea, Minh. I've never had this before. Tom may know. That's really cool. What's the growth/maturity rate for that baby or how long will it take to get to its mama's size?
bulldogtaxi October 31, 2012 October 31, 2012 Thats crazy, i had no idea they could reproduce unless it was by splitting!
Origami October 31, 2012 October 31, 2012 I have no idea, Minh. I've never had this before. Tom may know. The one that started out as a dime-sized blob in one of my smaller tanks is now larger than a golf ball - about the size of a squash ball, I guess. I've not done anything special about feeding it except giving it light. It would, I'm sure, grow faster if I gave it target feedings.
Origami October 31, 2012 October 31, 2012 BTW, the most interesting part of this is watching the tentacles form and grow over the first few weeks. At least it was that way for me. Have fun, Jan!
Jan October 31, 2012 Author October 31, 2012 It has been very exciting. The tentacles are getting larger and longer even though they are still very short. Just today I noticed a hint of pink at the tips. BTW, the most interesting part of this is watching the tentacles form and grow over the first few weeks. At least it was that way for me. Have fun, Jan!
newtoreef October 31, 2012 October 31, 2012 Let me know if you need to find a home for the baby? I can put the adoption's paper in... ah

Sharkey18 November 27, 2012 November 27, 2012 That is actually adorable. I can't wait until my tank is mature and healthy like yours!
Jan November 27, 2012 Author November 27, 2012 (edited) Thanks, Laura, but I was looking up emails to see when I bought this tank and it was a little over a year ago this month. It hasn't been up that long. I merged my stuff from the 75 gallon I had, but it's a fairly new set up. Remember I had to keep everything in a large tub because the tank wouldn't cycle for a couple of months? I kept getting ammonia readings off the chart. That is actually adorable. I can't wait until my tank is mature and healthy like yours! Edited November 27, 2012 by Jan's Reef Foods
monkiboy February 12, 2013 February 12, 2013 jan, any update on this nem baby? did anyone ever understand what happened or how this guy arrived in its current spot if not by splitting? is it possible a piece of some nem got cut or torn and landed there?
Jan February 12, 2013 Author February 12, 2013 It's growing and It's really beautiful. I have no idea how it happened. The foot wasn't torn or anything. Your guess is as good as mine.
monkiboy February 14, 2013 February 14, 2013 that's really cool, jan! it's incredible rare for that to happen in hobbyist aquaria.
