paul b March 2, 2012 March 2, 2012 This month my tank is 41 years old. I don't remember when I was 41 years old.
surf&turf March 2, 2012 March 2, 2012 Looks great and congrats!! Looks like you've done some rescaping since the last photos.
yauger March 2, 2012 March 2, 2012 (edited) looks lot more blue than the last time I saw an update pic, still looks awesome! Edited March 2, 2012 by yauger
paul b March 2, 2012 Author March 2, 2012 Thats becauseI turned down the white lights for the picture. I like blue, But it is normally much lighter.
lowsingle March 2, 2012 March 2, 2012 Way to go!!!! By far one of the most impressive feats in all of reefing......your tank is older than me! Darren
Coral Hind March 2, 2012 March 2, 2012 An awesome tank, congrats! It's probably one of the longest running home reef tanks ever. Few people live in one place for 41 years to even keep a tank going that long.
Origami March 3, 2012 March 3, 2012 Happy Birthday Paul's Tank! Lookin' good, Paul. Hope the winter's been easy up in LI and that you and D are doing well.
paul b March 3, 2012 Author March 3, 2012 How your tank dimensions ? It is 6' long and 100 gallons. Few people live in one place for 41 years to even keep a tank going that long. I actually moved it when I moved after it was five years old. Hope the winter's been easy up in LI Very easy, it is supposed to be 60 degrees today which is about 40 degrees above normal.
MBVette March 3, 2012 March 3, 2012 congrats Paul. Have you ever had ay problems with the seals or anything with the tank?
paul b April 23, 2012 Author April 23, 2012 The thing keeps evolving by collapsing and being re built. I am sure all tanks go through this This is a fairly new gobi, I don't know what type it is and I am to lazy to look it up. You can also see a red scooter bleeny above his tail. I love this stuff
Jennylynn9579 April 28, 2012 April 28, 2012 He's a blue spotted watchman goby. I have a yellow one, he's quite a character. Congrats on keeping up such a great looking tank for so long!
paul b April 28, 2012 Author April 28, 2012 Thanks, but these guys also look like blue spotted watchmans and they are completely different
Jennylynn9579 April 28, 2012 April 28, 2012 Yeah, now that I look at them in brighter light, I don't see the spots on the fins. They look EXTRA grumpy, my watchman has permanent grouch face :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
paul b May 11, 2013 Author May 11, 2013 (edited) Being this thread is about my tank I would like to update it. By the way Happy Mother's Day tomorrow. My tank is running very well. There are no algae issues or anything else. All of my paired fish are spawning including the mandarins, 3 pairs of cardinals, clown gobies and fireclowns, one of which is 19 years old. (I think, give or take 2 years) I still feed the same thing including blackworms, Mysis and clams every day with the new born brine shrimp but I added white worms which I raise in potting soil and feed Cheerios and Matzo's with fish oil on it. I am not sure if any of my worms are Jewish, but they seem to relish Matzo's. During the last Jewish holidays the supermarket gave away 10 boxes of Matzo's to everyone so I have a lifetime supply. The white worms eat a 2"X2" piece of Matzo in 2 days or 10 Cheerios. I like to feed these dry foods to the worms because it soaks up the fish oil really well, but it gives the worms horrible fish breath. The Possum wrasse pictured above is coming near the front of the tank to get to the worms and is looking great. I would like to get another one to see if they mate. My shrimp/gobies also above should spawn as soon as the tiny one gets larger, but now that their tunnel and shrimp have been confiscated by the larger Watchman they are homeless and I don't know how they will fare like that. I am looking for another shrimp for them. Next week I should be getting a Janss Pipefish. I ordered one from a wholesaler who owes me something. They are in stores here and are hard to find but one of the most beautiful pipefish. I acquired this dragon faced pipefish a week ago and he spends his time hunting pods or eating the numerous new born brine I add every day. The corals are growing nicely and I am running low on room because of the acropora, whenever I stick my hand in the tank, I break off a piece, then I have to glue it someplace and now those tiny frags are growing all over the place and making it difficult to do any maintenance in the tank. The montipora is giving me the same problem as that is also delicate and breaks off easily. I am trying to take a decent picture. Copperband tried a few bites of the pipefish, but now ignores him Whiteworms feasting on an oil infused piece of Matzo. paul b May 11, 2013 Author May 11, 2013 Congrats! I wish one day i am able to not move for 41 years...eventually, maybe not,lol I kinda like moving every 5 years, lol I actually did move this tank 37 years ago to my current home.
smallreef May 11, 2013 May 11, 2013 37 years is still a long time to be in one house, but that's good!
paul b May 11, 2013 Author May 11, 2013 37 years is still a long time to be in one house, but that's good! Yes it is, but I practically built this house and I am near most of my friends, some of which have been my friends since high school and some grammar school. We have a large, close crowd and I would hate to move. Besides I can't get my wife to move to Tahiti
Coral Hind May 11, 2013 May 11, 2013 I always hear stories of older tanks having issues of the silicone losing bond. Have you ever had to seal it?
