Thanks surf&turf. It took a lot of patience and labor to get it to look like this.

I was too impatient when I first started this hobby. I learnt it the hard way that patience is everything. Things started to take shape the way I wanted only after I got all my parameters stable. I strongly recommend newcomers to take it slow and wait to see results. "Rome wasn't built in a day" saying fits perfectly with this hobby. Good husbandry, and a lot of reading, asking questions is the key to a successful reef tank.

This little jumper was saved by luck. My overflow has been acting weird lately, I found who was responsible.

Hitch hiking at its best. Star polyps were removed from their frag plug and taken out for a ride around the block. I pulled over that urchin, issued a ticket and a violation and glued the polyps back. Funny what happens in this tank every day.

Hey man, looking great with the light! Glad it's working out for you. I've been wrestling with finding the perfect setting for my Sol....it's only 14" or so above my corals so it's a balancing act.

Does anyone know/have experience with this stringy brown thing coming out of one of my SPS frags? Is it poop?? I sure hope so...

Thanks!

Thanks! Unfortunately the doesn't look quite the same anymore. I started a new job and neglected the maintenance and lost all of my SPS. It hurt so bad!

Now I am starting over. Here is a FT pic.

Everything is slowly coming back. On the lucky side, I only lost the SPS. My clam and all the fish were not affected at all. Or the softies.

I was testing my iPhone 5's camera and couldn't resist taking some macro pics. I have to admit that the camera on this phone is pretty neat!

Enjoy!

Thank you! After almost losing all my corals, I have learnt that diligent tank maintenance is the key to success in this hobby. My three cents for the people who are starting new or newly starting are:

1) Do your water changes.

2) Patience is the key. Nothing good happens overnight.

3) Don't count on "magic potions". Nothing beats regular tank maintenance.

Awesome PE after my first water change with water made using Red Sea Coral Pro Salt. I am very happy with this product. I think Red Sea is the best brand out there with top notch quality products.

Does anyone use this salt mix? Or any other Red Sea products?

Hey guys,

After a very long time and with a painfully neglected tank, this past weekend I decided to make all my tank inhabitants and myself happy and started cleaning my tank.

As most of you have been following my thread for years would know, my tank has been through many phases. At one point I really had it down with thriving SPS colonies than I lost my job and the unfortunate decline started. Now with a new job which I am very excited about, I flipped a brand new page open to a new chapter for my nano 20 gal tank.

Here are some pictures and my first test results almost in 2 years .

Ammonia 0 ppm

Ca 500+

Nitrate 0 ppm

Nitrite 0 ppm

pH 8.2

Alkalinity 7.0 dKH

I also started with my bio pallets. Skim mate is nice and smelly :D

Please let me know what you think.

It is great to be back! I missed my WAMAS family!

Thanks YHSublime! I lost all of my SPS. These are new frags to thrive ;)

Well...glad we got the once a year update...looking good!

No kidding! It feels like it has been ages but it has only been a year.

On another note, I cleaned almost a 5gal bucket full of bubble algae. I think I got most of it out but any suggestions how to deal with this pest? I have never had it before...
