Just made this at work yesterday. It's the basic 5 test kits for Reef testing- p04, no3, alk, cal, mag. It has a place for a refractometer, Pinpoint ph monitor with probe. Underneath the tray there is plenty of room for pumps, hoses, logs, cleaning equipment, frags, etc. It all fits in a Pelican 1440 that is carry-on compatible and has wheels for easy transport.

Looks nice Rob, it would have been nice if I would have had something like that when I was doing maintenance.

tool builds a tool kit, interesting

If I need any more comments outta you, I'll just squeeze your head - I mean belly.

Maybe you'd like one of these nifty tool kits to work on your maintenance accounts... it beats a bucket.

What a great idea! I have two pelican cases that have been sitting in my garage waiting for some kind of use. Mine are alomst the same size but briefcase style and no wheels. I like the idea of having everything right where you need it and protected with foam. You have inspired me to build my own kit, thanks!

if you tell me what model cases you have, I can make a custom cnc cut insert for them.

Mine are the 1520's. Now that I think about it, they are probably considerably smaller than yours. CNC, I was wondering how you had all those nice rounded corners in the foam. Mine are filled with the foam cut in cubes (like in the bottom section of yours) and I was just going to pull them out to match each peice of equipment. Thanks for the offer though.

It sure does beat my current testkit box which consistes of a playmate cooler.biggrin.gif

Rob,

Well I tried making the insert using the pre-cut foam cube insert and it was an epic failure. Well maybe not epic but there were many inserts that just didn't function properly. I would love to take you up on the offer of a CNC cut insert. PM me and we can work out the details.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

All of the foam in my case has been CNC cut. We don't use any of the pick-n-pluck that comes with cases. You'll have to give me dimensions of anything that you want cut into the foam.

I can do either one, whatever format is easyier for you to load into the CNC machine. Do you have an existing file of the template for your tool kit that I can modify? Everthing looks like basic squares and circles but your refractometer looks like a custom shape. I also have a briefcase sized locking pelican case if you are interested in it.

I work for the biggest Pelican distributor in the region. dxf or dwg

Ahh! Can you send me a dwg?

what kind of test kits and other things are going in the case? Until i know those specifics, I can't do much.

Actually it would be almost exactly the same as yours but no p04, replace that with a Hanna phosphate checker. I use all Salifert test kits. Do you have slots for all of the reference charts for the tests? In the bottom I just want to have misc equipment storage.

I need the footprint of the Checker and a slot footprint for the reagents and a slot for the vial. I don't use the charts or the cards anymore- just a smaller photocopied version of them.

If this is going in a 1520, there won't be any room in the bottom for equipment storage.

Sure, I will draft that stuff up in CAD this weekend. I thought about not having room for that extra compartment after I looked at the box again.

Just curious, what does your CNC machine use to cut the foam? Waterjet?
