Dragon Eye July 26, 2010 Share July 26, 2010 I've been wondering about your led's on a wood lattice... How are you mounting that in the hood? Would a metal piece be a better choice for the span and moisture?
JpNuss July 26, 2010 Share July 26, 2010 My physics may be a bit rusty so someone can correct me if I am wrong but using the Ideal Gas Law (PV=nRT) as your pressure drops inside a closed volume, your temperature will drop as well. Therefore drawing air out faster and creating a "negative pressure" inside your sealed box (semi-sealed, but close enough for the theory to work) will keep temperatures lower. The temp will therefore be increased in the opposite pressure situation. Now again this is all in theory as your box is not fully sealed nor is it an Ideal Gas, but it should be safe to make the assumption. Anyone want to confirm this for me? pV = nRT, is at a more calculable accuracy when calculating monatomic gases at lower pressures and higher temps. Although there are too many variables that can't be plugged into the equation, in theory.. you're right! It should be safe to make the assumption. Would a metal piece be a better choice for the span and moisture? like my electronics compartment the led area is going to be more or less sealed with exhaust fans, also a splash guard, and the wood would be water proofed. i though about using aluminum for the lattice but assembly would be trickier and im worried about the weaight and possible sag of the lattice

jason the filter freak July 26, 2010 Author Share July 26, 2010 This is how i'm running cords into the comparment and keeping it moisture and air flow resistand. The weather striping is torn because I took it on and off a few times to check and mess with positioning. Of corse the final stripping will be intact and well aligned. The seal seals around the cord and against each other when the door is flipped up and latched in place. First piece of electronics installed
jason the filter freak July 26, 2010 Author Share July 26, 2010 (edited) All the holes were plugged with wood and wood filled around then sanded in prep for skinning of the stand. Edited July 26, 2010 by jason the filter freak
jason the filter freak July 30, 2010 Author Share July 30, 2010 entire bottom inside of the tank stand and the first three inches of all the walls under the stand have been coated in hardened epoxy resin. the rest of the inside of the tank stand will be coated in expoxy acrylic 1 part paint. this stand should last 30 years easy. ive also got my 24 pieces of loc linc segments (about 5" in lengh each) all lined up

jason the filter freak July 31, 2010 Author Share July 31, 2010 star will be mounted to a 1" x 1" heat sink which will be mounterd to the loc lines you see pictured above
jason the filter freak August 1, 2010 Author Share August 1, 2010 New smoked acrylic ATO container courtesy of fellow wamas members using a pin to allow capillary action to draw weldon into the seam/joint teaching tina to weld so weldon 16 is being used instead of 4 custom built 90 degree angle jig, essential for gluing/welding anything at right angles adding weldon for the final side, letting it cure for 24 hours then it will be leak and pressure tested
jason the filter freak August 1, 2010 Author Share August 1, 2010 full with in 1/4" of the rim the ato container will hold 5.6 gallons
Coral Hind August 1, 2010 Share August 1, 2010 It's looking good! The smoked acrylic will help to keep light out of the ATO tank so nothing starts to grow in it. Nice choice of materials. I'm looking forward to the LED build.

jason the filter freak August 3, 2010 Author Share August 3, 2010 Looks like I'll be ditching the 20H and building my own sump :D The electronics door being made out of ply wood I assume will have the potential to sag or bow over time so I'm ribbing it a 1x2 for support, and a piece of quarter round to pretty it up. jason the filter freak August 5, 2010 Author Share August 5, 2010 all skinning materials have been bought, as have all the paints, aside from the trim which I'm still deciging on. I also have the acrylic to build my own cutom sump
