craby October 21, 2004 October 21, 2004 Grav, I happened upon an IV at TRT. Grim had a few and may be willing to get one for you, or tell you where he gets his. HTH. Luke C.
Guest Ruh Roh October 21, 2004 October 21, 2004 I bought more Rubber (40 durometer instead of 70) I'll cut them and contact me if you want a softer compound.
GaryL October 21, 2004 October 21, 2004 i got my iv drip line at a medical supply place for 3 bucks just ask for an IV pump line
GaryL October 22, 2004 October 22, 2004 can you guys post pics of your kalk setup i have not done mine yet and just want some ideas. thanks... g glopez9140@aol.com or send them here if it is easier
ctreptow October 23, 2004 October 23, 2004 Here's my setup. I have the Kent Aquadose feeding the reactor and the output goes right into the sump. Aquadose Reactor Chris
GaryL October 25, 2004 October 25, 2004 thanks chris hooked mine up tonight, just like yours cept used a 5 gallon bucket. thanks for the picks. also thanks krish for the info on the plumbers grease it works great!
Guest Ruh Roh October 25, 2004 October 25, 2004 I bought more Rubber (40 durometer instead of 70) I'll cut them and contact me if you want a softer compound. Slight delay on the new rings... it seems the janitor at work thought it was trash... :( Should have enough for thsoe that PM'd me so far, but I'll post more when I know.
flowerseller October 27, 2004 Author October 27, 2004 I need to find a check valve, inline for 1/2 vinyl tube. Who may have this? Thanks, Chip
krish October 27, 2004 October 27, 2004 Chip, What are you using this for? May i ask? In case you are devising some contraption that goes with the reactor Btw, will you be available this weekend? I can swing by to drop off the #3 and a tin of silicone grease. -krish
ctreptow October 27, 2004 October 27, 2004 Hey Guys I just checked the PH of the reactor tonight and it was 10.9. I thought the PH was supposed to be around 12. Does 10.9 mean I have to add more Kalk now? The kalk that settles after the mix never really settles but seems to be a cloud at the bottom of the reactor. When I mix the cloud does spread up to the pump but it never really settles like it did the 1st week. Chris
krish October 28, 2004 October 28, 2004 Is the pH 10 after a while after mixing or right after mixing? My reactor has been running for over a week and i still see 12. I added over a couple of cups of kalk powder. -krish
flowerseller November 1, 2004 Author November 1, 2004 I have not gotten my unit to stop a back flow when used inline with a float. Is anyone using theirs inline or are you using a trickle type pump? Now that's a pizza w/ peppers to the left.
ctreptow November 1, 2004 November 1, 2004 Hey Chip I'm using a trickle type. I pump water up to a 5 gallon bucket that feeds the reactor through an IV type hose. I drop a second 24 hours a day. It's been working great so far. Chris
flowerseller November 1, 2004 Author November 1, 2004 Have you watched your PH? Has it been higher and steadier?
ctreptow November 1, 2004 November 1, 2004 PH has been great. I've had PH trouble ever since I set this new tank up. PH was always around 7.8 to 7.9. PH is now steady at 8.2 to 8.3. I have been keeping an eye on it so it doesn't creep up too high on me. Chris
flowerseller November 1, 2004 Author November 1, 2004 I just ordered a check valve and some nylon wing nuts from MacMaster Carr. That should put me online tuesday night.
krish November 1, 2004 November 1, 2004 Chip, I run it inline direct from my RO/DI storage cylinder. I have throttled the inlet such that the outlet drips like 3 drips in 2 seconds or so. pH has been around 8.17 and higher. The coral growth is incredible. The kalk reactor effluent pH is around 12. I run the mixing pump about 6 to 7 times a day using an analog timer. -krish
flowerseller November 2, 2004 Author November 2, 2004 I still like the float switch deal. I need a check valve and I'm willing to pay and do the work to have it that way. The unit itself operates like a champ! I'm already thinking calcium reactor (after Howards skimmer).
Grav November 2, 2004 November 2, 2004 hmmmmm What if you had both??? A float switch that would only allow water into the reactor when the level was low, and an IV drip to slow the rate (so it takes 2 hrs to fill instead of 20 min.) It would kill the PH swing and top off "birds" with one stone. Someone say skimmer? Looks like a real pizza, either the oven is working better or your camera is.
ctreptow November 2, 2004 November 2, 2004 hmmm Skimmer aye... Did you say downdraft... I thought you did. And yes that Zaaa does look good.. Chris
krish November 2, 2004 November 2, 2004 Chip, I will eventually be hooking up the kalk reactor thru a dual float switch triggering a solenoid. Already have the solenoid on hand.Just need to prioritize the time to do it among an ever growing "To Do" list. -krish
