  1. Steve, knew you couldn't back out totally! Great! Still want the BTA? It's gigantic now.
  2. "Peers" on the pro side in this "debate" consist of the now overwhelming consensus of the scientific community. I don't mean to belittle often serious counter-arguments to the humanity-being-the-main-culprit stand, but it must be said that the clear consensus of climatologists at this point is that humans are warming the earth.
  3. The evidence is pretty clear at this point that humans have a pretty big hand in warming the earth. Temperatures have been rising consistently as CO2 outputs have increased exponentially. Yes, correlation does not equal causation, but I'll side with the thousands of scientists who believe there is a causation there. The question at this point is can we make a meaningful dent against the trend without crippling the economy and without getting India and China on board.
  4. It happens inevitably to every reefer. Soak frozen mysis in garlic or buy the pellets that are coated in garlic. Garlic has been shown, anecdotally at least, to boost fish's immunity to fight off the ich. Clowns are usually more resilient than say tangs so the fact that they have it could be a sign of a pretty wide infestation. The only real long-term solution is to set up a QT tank, remove all of the fish from the display to that QT tank, and either use hyposalinity (low salinity) or copper based additives to kill the ich. You must leave the fish outside the display for 3-4 weeks to allow the remaining ich to die off in the display (w/o hosts (fish) in the display they eventually die off). If I were you I would try the garlic for a few days and see if it helps. Others will probably suggest an immediate removal to a QT tank.
  5. caught the end last night. Those starfish that decimate the reefs are crazy.
  6. The flame wars continue on. Ugh- As far as apistasia, 5 peppermints took out a flotilla of apistasia for me in literally 2 days. You can use joe's juice (which I had to recently for mojanos) but why not try a $5 shrimp?
  7. Outstanding!
  8. Sorry to hijack here, but I am considering upgrading to a 120 RR. What does a stand and tank of this size usually cost? Anyone got a used combo?
  9. Tried to get my blue hippo tang out to treat for ich a while back and stuck my finger right through his spikes. Hurt like H-E-double hocky sticks the whole night and was swollen for 5 days.
  10. My experience (at least 15 trips) has been that Jos' prices are always better than Larry's. Larry is afraid of putting the wrong price and getting in trouble with Jos or the other Dutch owner. This is no knock on Larry--he's a great guy and his knowledge is very deep on fish--especially wrasses. As far as the health of their fish, a PB tang I got there turned out to have ich. It's a risk that is not nearly as great shopping at BRK. Roozens has better selection but BRK's prices are very competitive and you can't beat BRK's corals and frag prices. My unsolicited 2 cents.
  11. get a peppermint shrimp or joe's juice. i got 5 peppermints in and they ravaged a field of apistasia overnight. Joe's juice will destroy any nuisance anems in about 2 seconds.
  12. Just this week I got one to eat by dropping a mussel in there. He started picking at it (the live ones you can buy in the mesh bags from any supermarket). Then i dropped in some live brine shrimp just once and since he has been eating frozen mysis.
  13. dam Dan! I cant believe it!!!!!! I had no idea. Sorry man
  14. Wallybackm--short for Wally Backman, ex Mets infielder. Why I came up with that name? Random neuron firing I guess.
  15. I was at Roozen's last week. Some of the acro mini colonies they had in that huge tank were looking bad, covered with bubble algae etc. I asked Jans if I could get a discount and he let out a big Dutch laugh saying "thess guy es traaying to do us a feavor!!!" Also, they have about 2,000 clams in that giant tank. They should lower the prices on them.
  16. I concur completely. BRK is hands down the best marine store in the area. The customer service/frag selection, prices, are the best.
  17. Aside from non-photosynthetic corals, most people don't find a need to feed corals. As long as you have some decent lights over the zoas they should be ok food-wise.
  18. could be some kind of sponge.
  19. Dan, can't wait to see this tank. Congrats on the baby !!!
  20. can someone explain how an overflow could work back up in the event of a power failure? In my case when there is a power failure the water simply flows into the sump until the display level is below the teeth of the overflow. since no water is returned to the display, once the display is below the teeth level of the overflow water cannot enter the overflow. How does a lifereef overflow deal with this? When the pump comes back on does it somehow restart the siphon? If so, how? Sorry to hijack here.
  21. I know where to get them online but I need to find a cheap ice pack that you use in the freezer (Not the kind you shake to work) for shipping corals. anyone have any idea? Target, CVS, supermarkets dont seem to carry them. ' Thanks
  22. Hey I have T5s and got a PPE polyp off of Gadgets. Like a moron, I did not properly acclimatize it--I now have it in a shaded area in hopes that it will open. It has not yet.
  23. Sick growth for both Dan and Dave. Dan, took the family to your restaurant the other day. Everything was great. We had the calamari as appetizer, then a pizza, which was delicious. The crust especially. Sorry to get off topic...
  24. Does any LFS sell these? If so, which, price? Thanks
