  1. I have a diamond set from the glass holes link above I think. I have drilled around 6 to 8 holes, most with the same bit. Tanks were 15H, 29 and 40. All holes were < 2 minutes start to finish. I think the whole set was only $60 and they have been fine.
  2. I don't know much about powder browns, but some people have real bad luck with the powder blues being "just plain mean". I have shied away from them for that reason. That being said, I have a hippo, achilles and sailfin in a 5 foot long 110. The blue and the sailfin were added together as juveniles and never fought. The achilles was added after the other two were pretty well grown. The achilles was about 4 inches. The sailfin and the achilles had words at first, but the learned to live in peace. When the achilles was added, I fed nori on both sides of the tank at once so they would each have their own feeding station. That seemed to help.
  3. Thanks Vader! Yes. There will be three rock towers. You can see the PVC for the remaining two in the fts. I have 5 tangs moving in from my old 46b that is shutting down and from the system that you saw in my basement. You came by once with Chuck I think before you setup your tanks. I will move LR from the 46 when I add the tangs. As soon as I catch the hippo tang I will build the middle tower. The middle tower will be shorter to leave some swimming room and room for growth. After I move the hippo in I will move a purple, achilles and a yellow tang in together. Finally I have a 3/4 grown sailfin that I will try last since he is the biggest. I am hoping they all get along.
  4. My 46B was great! It got me hooked on this hobby over 4 years ago. I'll miss it Lumen Bright min reflectors, Ushio 400W 20K bulb (3 months old), hydrafarms ballast. The PAR reading is so high because the lumen brights need to be mounted 18 inches from the water to cover the 2x2 area. They are a very focused reflector. Currently they are problably closer to 10 or 12 inches. I need to raise them and then the par will go down where I took that measurement but it will be more evenly spread over the 2x2 area. They are a great reflector if you can get them to the right height. Mainly SPS and LPS in the sand. The leather may stay - not sure. I also have a green toadstool that I don't know what to do with. And of course, a few zoa rocks. By the three coral towers will be covered with SPS. I plan on growing large monti caps in the back corners. Probably the orange and a flower petal. I have a green and purple taking over 1/3 of my 110 system. I just started using them as live rock for other corals in that system
  5. Thanks Ryan! Looks like your current tank is pretty close to that size though. This 210 is essentially a 180 with a few extra inches of height.
  6. Thanks reefmontalvo! I have had similar problems with zoos in the past in my 110 system. Vitamin C tends to stop it better than anything else I have tried. Furan II (I think that is what it is called) helps but it takes a heck of a lot more work than the vitamin C. Swapping carbon and a few water changes usually helps too. They must be the most tempermental beginner coral out there I am hoping to get a rock of the hornets growing by itself in this tank. It is a frag and the mother colony is in a different tank. I may also have a fw disc in the sand bed of them. I like how they look when they cover the whole disc.
  7. New Years Day Pics "Carpet Leather" anemone I'll leave the leather in for now but it may need to go as SPS begin to dominate. The clowns love it more than the RBTAs though. Moved some big frags out of my frag tank in here for now. I need to sell most of these. The SPS "Canary in a coal mine took off growing"!! tyree Flower petal, tyree tri-color coloring up, birds nests. The pink one turned HOT pink under the new lights since this pic. psammy hydnophoras - I need to sell one of these - pm me if you want one. They are a few inches across. A. Turaki Purple hornets all closed up A Gomezi Digis poci - this was in my "Frag" tank. A pretty big "frag" Miami Orchid - trying to get its color back FTS - Actinics only TODO: Plumb in 15GH fuge raise canopy for LBs and add fans add 10G frag tank between fuge and sump hook up kalk stirrer hook up CA reactor (DIY two part like crazy for now) add two rock towers - one on the left, one in the middle move in more old fish - yellow tang, purple tang, sailfin tang, achilles tang, hippo tang and on and on..... Thanks for looking!
  8. After over a year of slow progress, things are finally starting to move with my 210G upgrade. Here are some pics over the last year or so. Old 46B tank New tank XMAS 08 - yes it took me over a year to get it running. rock tower 1 - the other two will come as fish from two other tanks are moved - the LR is in my old 46B and some fish are coming from my 110G display/66G frag system (blue tang, achilles tang, sailfin tang, anthia) November 09 First lights - actinics and one LB 400W running - still need to raise the canopy and add fans Par is two high at current height. This reading was about 8 inches into the water Dec 2, 2009 - finally some life - a seed rock from the 46B Lights 12/5/2009 - canary in a coal mine Second skimmer which has been replaced by a Deltec Turbo 1250 Primary Skimmer Return pump First biolad!!! 12/8/2009 More biolad and the diatom bloom FINALLY came The new view from my favorite LR chair!!! I can just imagine the potential when this view is full of SPS!!!! New Years Day 2010 - finally some decent pictures not taken with a phone, but still ony 33% done with the aquascape.
  9. . We should all keep one around:). Plus they work for diving too. BTW, the ER tested me for the flu. It was negative.
  10. Sounds like you had a very similar exposure. If I had let it run it course, I would have probably been fine but the symptoms would have lasted longer. The shaking and freezing stopped almost immediately with O2. And a few hours later I was almost fine. I waited an hour before I called the ER as it felt similar to the flu - except the shaking was more extreme and blankets did not stop it.
  11. Yep. BTW, I am not saying that Wiki is right, just that they claim it is not a protein I also read somewhere that they are trying to get palytoxin to bind with something (I forget what) in such a way that it will only attack cancer cells. This stuff may end up saving more lives in the long run than it ever took
  12. Wiki says it is not a protien. For what that is worth.
  13. Yes it is. I have handled these for years without issue and even do e this procedure before. Does anyone know what breaks this toxin down? I had read heat did but I think that is wrong.
  14. I'll revive this thread base on a personal incident this week. I was cleaning a frag rack with some of the large ugly palythoas growing on it. I was cleaning it under running hot water washing them down the drain. Apparently, some palytoxin became airborn with the steam from the hot water and I inhaled it. I had done this procedure many times before without incident. Here is what happened. 1) Noticed the smell in the air over the sink and a slight soar throat - thought the flu might be setting in or I just inhaled palytoxin - 10:00pm 2) Showered immediately and tried to clear my throat as much as possible. 3) Went to bed with no syptoms other than a slightly soar throat - thought it was a non issue. 4) Woke up at 1:00am with: spasms/shaking, labored breathing, high temp, high pulse rate, mild chest tension. 5) googled palytoxin poisoning and found some inhaling threads like this one. 6) called posion control 7) got an ambulance that put me on O2 - symptoms ceased almost immediately 8) Remained in ER on O2 for 5 hours until vitals and blood oxygen levels stabalized. 9) went home and got rest It does not take much of this stuff to cause a reaction even if you inhale it. I am careful about touching it and washing afterwards all of the time.
  15. What is your magnesium level? My experience is that chaeto will not grow well if mag levels go much above 1500.
  16. Plus 1 I have had large colonies rtn and stopped it just in time and saved small pieces that have lived.
  17. I have done boiling kalk water. It works if you can get it in the mouth. I prefer the copper band method now though Less work and more fun to look at. Kiss all fan worms goodbye though when using a copperband.
  18. Hey Mike. Thanks for the tour the other day! It was a thrill to see what you were doing there! Good stuff. I just put a post on CMAS about your experience and directed them over here for details.
  19. And we are all waiting for a new FTS shot or video
  20. Sweet! Nice job! I ordered an LED light via a CMAS (and WAMAS I think) group buy. The owner of that company is picking up the lawsuit where PFO left off. The patent seems pretty flimsy.
  21. The other big problem with the coral bank, other than needing multiple QT issues is tank crashes. What if a power outage or something else causes one of the bank's tanks to crash? It happens, even with the best of controls in place. It seems like the liability would be endless. Giving frags to friends who agree to give you a frag back if something happens is the way to go.
  22. :( I'll take your sixline if you still have it.
  23. Cool! Congrats! They are the coolest looking of any baby fish that I have ever raised. Next time mine hatch, I'll have to try and raise some intentionally and go for 7 My two that survived on their own in the fuge and overflow are growing well. Good luck and I hope they do well!
