  1. Get good coraline growth on your rocks. It will not grow very well on rocks with coraline. I get it in new tanks, but once the rocks get covered with coraline it is not much of a problem.
  2. Florida prices skyrocketed worse than any during the boom and then crashed. I rent a handful of properties. The good news now is that rents are going up again and you can actually find renters with goo credit now. Five years ago everyone with even decent credit was buying, not renting
  3. I got my son an underwater camera for XMas and decided to take it for a spin:
  4. Thank for the compliment and the offer! But, the CA reactore is in full gear now. I actually need to test today to make sure it is dialed in correctly! Latest mods: Custom 30 gallon refugium for under the stand is in progress this week. BRK doser added for mag supplementation. CA reactor and reverse flow second chamber up and running. I bought some used tunze 6100s and the controller to replace one of the modded maxjets. Slow and steady....
  5. Thanks Steve! And yes, the "Carpet Leather Anemone" has become the signature for the tank already even though it is a work in progress. Everyone who sees it loves it, so it is staying in its current location permanently I would have never thought that the first coral I ever owned would become the centerpiece for this tank
  6. I lost my own thread!! The new one is here http://www.wamas.org/forums/topic/34808-agarg-210-tank-upgrade/
  7. I caught some tangs and built out the middle tower. The left tower will have to wait until I find two more large pieces of dry rock. The sand is becoming a refuge for frags for sale And a video
  8. I don't think anyone has been successful using anything but live foods which means Rotifers. I don't think people have even had luck with frozen rotifers. Got a refugia? That might work.
  9. Also put ato units on timers to limit the amount they can add. A controller that turns the kalk off above a certain ph is also a good thing. The more safeguards the better.
  10. How does the water get in? And how is the CO2 get out? And it looks like the output tube is below the water line? What am I missing. Great inexpensive design!!
  11. Yep. I do that all the time. Just keep the water circulating in the display with the power heads. Sorry, I did not take the time to read the rest of the thread. Someone probably already answered this.
  12. +1 I just ordered three today.
  13. I think spending the time to read this entire thread is the first indication (check). And what does it mean if you can relate to almost every post on it? I'll be putting a sharpie in my glove compartment today
  14. One more thing. I dose my 46 gallon with a slurry of kalk every morning when the pH is low. I mix 1//8 teaspoon in a pint of RODI and poor it in the sump. This is Anthony Calfo's slurry method for dosing Kalk. You have to be very careful not to overdose it and make sure that you don't rais the pH more than .2 when you do this. I satisfy the rest of the demand for CA and AlK in that tank with Randy's two part.
  15. Yes, but you need to use soda ash not baking soda for the alkalinity part. You can make soda ash from baking soda by baking it in the oven for a few hours. It is not as good at raising pH as kalk though, but it will raise it. There is nothing to stop you from using Kalk for ATO and two part. Just monitor pH closely and make sure you prevent overdosing of the kalk.
  16. Here is the article comparing the costs of all of the ways to add calcium and alkalinity http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/feb2003/chem.htm
  17. I believe Randy Holmes Farley has already done that. I'd have to search for the link though. Kalk/CA reactor wins out in the long run for cost, but it takes a while. For a 30 gallon tank I would go with the pumps/two part. That is what I do on a 46 bow. On larger SPS/clam tanks, go with kalk and ca reactor. You will get the money back over time. That is what I run on my large SPS tank.
  18. There is a free read only version - which has termendous value in and of itself. Since it is the most used application on my iPhone, I don't mind the $2.99 to pay for its develpment. Early version were buggy though. but updates are free.
  19. I posted the same thing on NR and learned that your forum software probably is probably not supported yet :( But hopefully soon. I think WAMAS and NR use the same software. It lookf like it might be here in February though! Here is what the mods at NR said: Q: Which forum system does it currently support? A: Currently phpBB3 3.0.x and vBulletin 3.7, 3.8 and 4.0 are supported. IPB (Invision Power Board) will also be supported in Februray 2010 time-frame
  20. Have any of the mods thought about installing the TapaTalk plug in on the forum? This allows the TapaTalk iPhone application to browse the forum. I use it on R2R, RC and CMAS. It is very convenient.
  21. You and me both !! I have had this sitting empty in my LR for a year waiting to get the floor re-inforeced. I finally just moved it to an orientation that did not require re-inforcement. I alomst caught that hippo tonight but he got out before I got the trap out of the water. I might have to buy one with a string release door. The copper band in the 110 does not move to the 210. I can catch him at will of course
