  1. Sure thing! The 9x12 is accurate. re: waste collector. We use 1/2" clear sch40 for the sensor tube. All you would need to do is drill out or dremel a .84" diameter hole and the tube would fit in nicely. In this case it would be better to get out top off kit for $69.00 and use that (same device) plus you would get some free magnet mounts that could be useful for another project.
  2. Henry, This heater unit is still going strong after 3 years, all 8 heater still function and do so on a regular basis. I have them stepped at 1 degree intervals so first one set at 74 then 73,72,71,70,69 etc. I have a kilowatt meter mounted to the unit so I can make certain all units are operating correctly. If all 2000w are running I can get 5 degree an hour temp rise on roughly 600g water. So, without taking a lot of complex variables into play you could add another 300w and probably be good. My situation requires RAPID heating in a worst case scenario (sump out side, power goes out in winter=250g of freezing water waiting to go back to the main display). So my plumbing is more complex than it would be in a normal setting. I can describe it if you really need to know but it involves relays, actuated ball valves and temp sensors in multiple locations, etc. I have had 2 "worst case scenario's" since the tank has been setup and the fail safes performed as expected. I run approx 1200gph through this heater unit. Again, a guess for you, about half this should work. I like 2", gives more dwell time inside the unit and the cost/space difference is negligible. The water is always at the same level due to gravity, not water flow. Input, output and tee's are all at same level so the internal water level is always constant regardless of 2000gph or 0gph. HTH Dan
  3. Hit Justin up, he is doing production soldering almost daily.
  4. Justin, If you want, you can buy just the skimmer now, and I will honor the current "add on" prices for the other items whenever your budget allows. Here is the link to the built version: http://www.avastmarine.com/ssc/do/product/proteinskimmers/CS1 We do actually have a built test model in stock that I can sell at the kit price. We need it for a few more weeks as it was built to test a new pump we are working on, but after that your welcome to it. Dan
  5. even better, 4-5 wraps of Teflon tape and leave the drill in the garage :-)
  6. I wonder what the ID of a JG 1/2" male NPT to 1/4" tube connect is. If it is less than .5" and your breaking out the drill and .5" bit anyway....
  7. a tee with a anti-siphon air line is cheaper and considerably more reliable.
  8. Howdy Justin, We currently do not have a external skimmer in the lineup. So with no sump, no pumps, no skimmer, plumbing etc, it would be an awfully sparse "all in one" :-) Perhaps adding a Swabbie to your existing skimmer would give you the upgrade your looking for with limited up front cost. We have put them on beckett/downdraft skimmers and users have reported just as good of results as the nw skimmers. There are plenty unbiased reviews on the net as to the effectiveness of the device.
  9. Hey Charles, Justin is finishing up the user manual right now, which will explain setup and operation in much more detail. You need a luft pump, no other pump is required. Dan
  10. Sizing chart is in the first link. Look at system volume at the bottom of the table to determine your reactor size. These are real numbers, 200g=200g :-)
  11. Yes, a Luft pump is needed to pressurize the reactor. We tried a bunch of different less expensive pumps and they did not pass our rigorous testing. Sanders, Enlay, Clearwater are all good choices for generators, sizing depends on reactor size and tank volume.

  15. personally, I would add a few of the cultured pellets to the reactor already running on the main tank. Then wait a month. How much is running in each of the 3 reactors out of curiosity?
  16. How have you determined that a spray nozzle will increase performance?
  17. Pretty close. Pressure based with internal restrictions so no valve fiddling, media bio-bale style, venturi/water/o3 mixing pre-reaction plate, not all in one. We decided modular was the way to go and allows for more sizes and options that are not "one size fits all". Also allows for people to use their own post carbon/media reactor if they already have one. AVAST built-yes, 3 sizes. YOU built-yes, 3 sizes. Lot's of options.
  18. LOL, expected ship date is 2-9. Production models are decided, pricing, specs, etc will all be available before end of month. Pictures should be up next week. We actually decided on final specs a while ago but biz has been really good in the last few months for us and things take longer to get to market than they used to.
  19. Might just need to bring the blade out a touch more, although skimming a little bit wetter will help keep your lid cleaner for longer if you go that route (suggested, not required).
  20. Bottom of neck? Top edge of neck? Bottom of lid?
  21. I think there was 20 tubes of caulk used that day, most of them applied when we were INSIDE the tank. Give a brother a fan at least LOL
  22. I think flowerseller uses c clamps and empty scotch bottles to hold his refugium to the back of the tank so this wont happen.
