  1. Very nice! Now... tell us about your setup.
  2. Any light is better than no-light. I have a few pounds of live-rock and base-rock waiting for future use in a 25 gallon tank. I have only 2 little 18w bulbs over the tank but the purple corraline is spreading. I even feed the tank (get strange looks from family... feeding my rocks :D ) and I see pods and worms running around.
  3. My next tank (120 or larger :: ) will definitely start with lesser expensive base rock. In fact' I'll probably do a little agrocrete for my foundation. Go to reefCentral or reefs.org and do a search on base AND rock and agrocrete for alot of info on the subject. On a large tank where live-rock would be very expensive, I'd probably go 2/3 base rock to 1/3 live rock. Others will disagree... but they're probably not as budget-tight as I an also.
  4. Personally, I wouldn't mount any halide over 100w only 3" from the top of an acrylic tank. Like buckweat... I mean snapper said, I've seen some nice canopy mods where they took an existing canopy and made a kind of a skirt for it which elevated it several inches.
  5. Phil, Mostly curious... how much are they charging for shipping and are they in Canada?
  6. Jamie, I may have a few 96w PC + Ballast combos for sale in a few weeks if you can wait. Yes quazi, one is reserved for you. :D
  7. You'll need more than luck :D Just kidding; sound like you're in for alot of fun.
  8. I know i can mail-order these but i'd rather pick them up locally if possible.
  9. Great work jfish! Also, I've heard that those cardinals are great schoolers. Where did you get them?
  10. Hey, and you can bring those extra C02 tanks for your reactor for backup ??? Take plenty of pics!
  11. Quazi, you notice Dr. Mac's looks very very different from the black with blue stripes. Someone explain to my Wife why I want to buy a $40 slug :p Snapper: ben drinkin too much ah dat moon-shine ::
  12. Thanks for the info folks. I've herd good stuff about Sailfert's "Flatworm Exit" and you may remember cbo talking about success with "greenex". I'm reluctant to use these options for fear of hurting other critters (I have other worms like bristle, 1 big maybe a peanut, and hundreds of little dusters). I also have spawning snails of different species with tiny baby snails all over the tank. Any other success stories with wrasses. My readings say that the nudibranch has a short life even in a healthy tank.
  13. Quazi, wow! $30. Yea, I'll check with TRT. David, I had a 6-line in my old 55; very kewl fish. He drowned himself on the basement floor one day :( Anyone else have experience with a wrasse the liked to eat flatworms?
  14. I was talking with Quazi last night and he mentioned a shop in Virginia beach where they had nudis that supposidly ate flatworms. Anyone have any more info on these? I have lots of flatworms and would rather not use chemicals. I understand they are know to have a polulation crash bbbut they've been going strong for a few months now and multiplying. The nudi may be a kewl addition anyway. I do have 2 peppermints if that's an issue.
  15. I'm relatively new to reefs, (tried FOWLR many years ago) and have found keeping many species of corals quite easy as long as you keep up with parameters like pH, Calcium, Alkalinity... and have adequate lighting. Some corals are quite easy and some folks in this group have it growing out the yazoo :p
  16. Or anyone with balls enough to do the analysis :p I mean enough balls
  17. No hurry here
  18. Now, lets you just drop dem... Where was I. Oh, yeah. cost+$40 is a deal. It will be behind the tank in the unfinished part of my basement so height isn't a problem, whatever you think is appropriate.
  19. 75 gallon tank without a calcium reactor. I'd want to be able to pump water in with a peristalic pump to have it overflow into my sump. How about 50% off and I'll throw-in a 6-pack and a recording of dueling banjos (inside jjoke).
  20. My favorites in Virginia: The Reef Tank in Fairfax off Guinea road near braddock road. (703) 978-1700. The Marine Scene located at the intersection of the Dulles toll road and Fairfax County Parkway at 293 Sunset Park Dr. in Herndon. (703) 689-2815
  21. And remember that if you see corals growing on the outside of the tank, it's probably because you inhaled a little too much glue. :p Remember me as a possible Nilsen reactor customer if you're so inclined.
  22. If you don't own one, rent a carpet cleaner and clean the heck out of the carpet. Do the affected spot twice and the whole carpet once. Turn the thurmostat up a few degrees to remove the moisture faster.
  23. I am a possible attendee. I'll need directions too. grenier2@earthlink.net
  24. I'm no chemist or phish-a-sist but as I recall, when water freezes, it expands. Maybe it's the bubbles or something. That's what causes potholes. I don't think the added pressure would effect your tank but it came to my mind.
  25. Very interesting traveller7. I didn't know that Icecap had a 150 DE bulb... any reviews online? I'd like to see about getting in on a group discount. $45 is cheap if the bulbs are any good. I assume they use the same M81 ballast like the ushios and other de 150w bulbs.
