  1. Great Johnny, I'll go over to the PVAS website and spread the "Buzz". I own three FW tanks myself.
  2. Based on my research so far... SOME de-humidifiers are known to leech copper into the water. Another potential problem is the resivoir becoming contaminated with fungus or whatever may be lurking in your basement. The output of SOME dehumidifiers is clear, clean DI water. I'll bet my cheapo de-humidifier on wheels is not one of the nice ones that produces nice DI water. I pull about a gallon-a-day out of the air in my basement during the summer.
  3. Yes, I put a blue strip on an aluminum beam across my tank and it totally blows-away any other actinic I've ever seen. I got my kit from Rapid Leds.
  4. Isn't it basically DI water? Can't contain much since it was pulled out of the air. What am I missing?
  5. Has it been there a long time? Maybe it just bit-off more than it could chew. I've seen mine "munch" for a while. Just a thought.
  6. A 6-Line wrass would think he's in heaven. Or, if you have that many, get a fine-mesh net & scoop a bunch out and I'll buy them from you.
  7. I'm aware of "Gulf Coase Ecosystems". Others I should look into?
  8. Great replies folks, thanks much. Chad, I'm researching the shoal grass - Halodule wrightii right now. I have definitely noticed that when I stir-up my sump that the corals upstairs are "reaching" out to grab stuff more.
  9. I have a 6' long sump (about 100 gals) in my basement. It only has a Skimmer, heater, and a bunch of live rock. I also house a mated pair of clowns in there. I plan on putting the rocks in two piles, adding a DSB, and plant a large turtle grass bed in there. My concern is for the clown pair. Help me pick the best option: 1) Move the clowns to a small tank until the sand storm subsides (catching 2 clowns in a 6' tank will be difficult). or 2) Add the sand while the clowns are still in there (I'll have an extra mechanical filter going to clear it up faster). Which one would be less traumatic to the fish?
  10. I visited this guys house and saw some of the biggest & fattest tangs around. He was taking the seaweed sheets he bought at an asian market for making sushi and soak them in garlic for a while before feeding. Big, fat, impressive looking tangs!
  11. I literally had water droplets forming on things
  12. I have a 96 gallon basement sump/fuge sitting on a tall stand which puts it only < 24" from the ceiling right under the display tank above. I'm using a Mag 9. It's nice doing water changes and having the skimmer in the basement. I also have a few freshwater tanks down there and may be adding a frag tank. I have a smallish de-humidifier down there running during the summer and it's nice to add a little moisture during the winter when the heat is on.
  13. I'll just throw-in that I put a strip of 12 3w blue LEDs about 3" apart near the front, (tilted inwards a little, using 80degree optics), of my W-42"/D-24"/H-22" tank and I'm amazed with the color and coverage. I just used aluminum square hollow rods from home-depot.
  14. I already have the "Reef Upstairs" and big fuge downstairs running fine. I'm think of adding another piece to the setup as illustrated. I think I have the power-on and the power off question answered. As far as evaporation goes, the fluctuation will be in the "addition" which is at the lowest level; right? The return pump at the lowest level will be small, I don't think this changes much. I will start and maintain everything with the lowest level tank few inches low to handle power failure. What do you guys think? 3 tank setup.bmp
  15. Thanks Dave! Chad, I didn' think it was still around either Right On!
  16. I'm setting-up a fuge that is 5' X 18". It will have 2 small LR islands and a large space of 4-5" sand with turtle-grass planted in it. I'm looking for a lease-expensive way to put a DSB in there. Suggestions?
  17. I'm thinking of getting a BTA and my concern is if the koralia I use are a possible threat. Thoughts? Experience? advice?
  18. Very important: make sure that the majority of the bottom is supported unlike glass where you only need the edges supported. The bottom can end-out bowing and maybe worse.
  19. I have a relatively huge sump/fuge with just some live rock, a skimmer, a small phosban reactor, and a return pump in in it. I was thinking of adding lights and a few species of CAULERPA in there. My sump-fuge is in the basement below the tank and about 6 feet off the floor. I wanted to make it a display/fuge and do something like these guys did but I fear caulerpa traveling to the upstairs display tank. Thoughts?
  20. I dunno. What is the problem with having large bristle worms? I hear of folks finding and removing them but I don't know what harm they cause unless you grab it bare-handed. I just saw a 10+" worm in my fuge. Do they like escargot or something?
  21. Tuan, If that's the Tang in your GFs tank that I saw the other day you should post a pic for these guys with something in the pick for reference to show the size. Fabulous fish!
