  1. Thanks... I'll leave it as a valida. I have a tri-color from Carribean Jake, but this one is super purple.
  2. Some day when my tank looks somewhat respectable...
  3. Can anyone help ID this? Is this a valida? Coral is bright purple. There is a greenish hue in the shadows. The colors in the picture are pretty accurate (under MH + Actinic). Thanks.

  6. It's not discouragement...it's a living system...
  7. Here's what I do: Peel it. High light stunts it's growth. Isolate it from creeping. And finally... Enjoy it...it's not going away.
  8. Mine is doing well under 250w MH at 24" depth with good flow, but no direct flow.
  9. I have multiple Visitherm 250W Stealth heats. One alone should not be capable of "cooking" the tank. Except for two in the main tank, the heaters are in the sump in higher flow areas. So far, so good (knock on wood). Edit...if I could only write...
  10. Just got some heaters from them (easier than schlepping all over the place). Ordered Monday night, goods got here Wednesday. Have only had a good experience.
  11. Jason, For even cleaner water...you might want to think about an even larger Aqua-C, such as the AquaC EV-180 Skimmer w/JG fitting + 2.5L Waste Container+ Mag7 pump. (This is a shameless plug for my items in the F/S section).

    Gloves

BTW... little trick with latex/nitrile gloves.. wrap a not-too-tight rubberband around your wrist with the glove trapped between the rubberband and your skin. You won't get water in your gloved hand/fingers.
  13. Let me know if you anyone is interested, last minute, but I can bring to the meet. Am aquascaping... 15. Varionman, Did you say control? Jame's is putting together a controller group buy that might be just right for you....
  16. The small polyp size seems to indicate more light is better than less (like you are doing). So, acropora xxxx?
  17. Is it high/low - depth? What kind of light is it under?
  18. Bob, No. But my poci have the same "black spots"....and I have a few!
  19. Bob, Great looking tank and great that theres another reefer in DC. Nice growth and aquascaping... Nadir
  20. Speaking of shrooms...check with Steve...I hear they get quite steamed about the whole affair...
  21. Continuity... Arrggghh! Discontinuity... Discontinuous continuity...
  22. If you want it quickly...recommend BRK (don't know if they are stocked right now, but it is normally in stock). Prices normally are internetish. Also, you have a local contact if there is a problem. Plus, you can see the rest of the store.
  23. These gloves and tongs are better for you tank inhabitants than without. We leach oil, etc. immedately when we put bare hands/arms in water (just look at your skimmer immediately after). Wear gloves for short spurts, rather than long. If you have them for a while, you might also get water into them by mistake (not the most pleasant). If they need a refreshing cleaning, use a mild bleach and water soak. Dry them inside out. Also recommend 4" pipe connectors which you can slide the open ends onto after you use the gloves so they dry out better (and can be put near a vent). Seems that most long term bare-arm reefers have developed some allergy or the other. So you're on the smart path!
  24. ahh..maybe you should just give her a "present"...
