  1. Mike, I was away on vacation but I am backing your Tunze idea. I have had both and I like the lack of noise the Tunze brings! I am running two 6055's and two 6105's and they are quieter than my two MP10's that I can hear upstairs. With the new silencer pads you hardly notice they are on. The skimmer looks nice. You are going to love the bubble blaster pump as they are so silent.
  2. Mike - Haven't really been on here like I should so this will help me get going again. Looking forward to how you are going to proceed. Tank looks sweet!
  3. Depending on what you are looking for this is a good place to start Melev's Reef Identification.
  4. Just curious any updates on this?
  5. John, Do you guys have any of the 6' URI VHO Super Actinic Bulbs in stock I am looking for 4.
  6. Sorry to hear about your lost. Hopefully this was not recommended as critter to buy for a tank that size. It never stood a chance in a nano cube.
  7. From the two I have had in the past it is slowly dieing. What size tank do you you have? I tried on two different occassions in my 90 with the same result. They do fine for a few months then slowly starve to dealth. I am not sure why the are not recommended for large tanks only.
  8. I have the Neptune Apex and you can control your tank from virtually anywhere you have an internet connection after some configuration of your Apex. There is a very thorough document out there for configuring the Apex. As Origami2547 mentioned there an app that can do it with as well (Android and IPhone), but you may not even need to use an app. I have a Evo can can monitor and control my Apex from virtually anywhere. At home I monitor and update programming in my loft and see the changes instantly. I can look at the status, turn outlets on and off, view graphs, change programming, etc. all from my phone with no app. There are so many possibilities!
  9. I currently have the Apex and before that the AquaController Jr. Today's controllers can do just about anything that you want them to do. All the things you listed you were interested in it doing it will do and more. I am currently not really using any of the advanced features but there are so many things they can do. There are few places on the net that people have posted their programs and you copy and tweak to your desire. If you think of it there is probably a program that can be created to handle it. They can even send you emails, sound alarms, etc.
  10. Hey nice pics...where were these taken? Reminds me of a couple of places in the Dominican Republic where I did not have to go far to see pretty fish.
  11. Alieu07 - It's a Canon Rebel XSi! I love this camera its old but still working for me .
  12. I recently upgrading to a new tank and finally have a few things to take pictures of in the tank. I have not been on this site much lately but figured I would share.
  13. Great shots of the corals. This gives me inspiration for my new tank!

  15. Just for clarification the bulkhead is 2" and it is through acrylic. I think the issue may be two fold so I am working on a support system for the PVC. The first issue I had was the downward pressure of the 2" PVC made it sag a little. I reinforced the acrylic side with another piece of acrylic and now it does not sag, but during my drilling process the drill went crazy. If you have ever used a hole saw I think you know what I mean. This is how I now have the deep jagged scratch issue number two. I have attached a picture below for clarification. As you can the see the bulkhead is reversed. The flange is on the outside so I can remove the bulkhead and service the sump. The outside is where the scratch is and it starts at the hole and goes down about 1-1/4". I think another issue may be the bulkhead I am using they are not standard bulkheads. I can not drill a bigger hole without going up a heavy duty bulkhead. I will keep you guys posted on what happens. I found a spare gasket last night so that may be an option as well.
  16. Thanks everyone for the ideas. I currently have the bulkhead reversed since I needed the ability to remove the bulkhead in order to take the sump from under the tank. Hopefully one of the epoxies will will work or two gaskets will work. I am leery of the silicone based on Murphy's law it looks like another trip to home depot tomorrow.
  17. I scratched my sump near the bulkhead with my hole saw and now no matter how tight I turn the bulk head it is not sealing. The scratch is kinda deep so I need something to fill in the surface so that the washer can then go over to make the surface flat. Is plumbers Putty reef-safe? Or is there anything I can use to fill the scratch? Thanks
  18. Thanks Dan...its off to order some parts now .
  19. Francis, Your corals always look sweet in pictures or in person! I can not wait till my new set up is done...please put me on the list for a frag once you frag the colony again.
  20. That looks sweet for sure! Under what what light was the picture taken?
  21. Dan, I found this old thread and had a few questions . One of the issues I face in my current tank is the amount of time it takes to bring the tank temperature back to the desired temperature after a drop. With your design I am hoping I will not face the same issue on my new tank. I am in the process of an upgrade but when all is said and done I will have 180 gallon display, 30 gallon sump, and 40 gallon frag tank. I currently have 2 x 300 watt heaters and wondering if I need more. How many more heaters would you suggest I add to my set up? Do you have any current pictures of your current plumbing set up that this is connected to? How much flow are you pushing through the 2" PVC to ensure the water is always at a certain level? Do you think 1-1/2" PVC could be used or would you stick with 2" PVC? Thanks, Henry
  22. I am in the process of building a sump for my new tank and knocked over my can of weld-on #4 anyone have some I can buy today? Please PM your price thanks. Thanks, Henry
  23. Thanks everyone for your input.
  24. I heard there are a few people that build custom sumps but are there any people who build if you have your own acrylic? I have some 1/2 acrylic that I would like turned into a sump for my new tank. I am still working out the dimensions but it may not be more than 18" (w) (stand restrictions), maybe 48" (l) or so and I am not sure how tall yet. Thanks, Henry
  25. Thanks Dave, I will add you to my spreadsheet . I will send a PM about when you have availability. Henry
