  1. Thanks JM...here are a few more. Enjoy
  2. zygote2k, Out of curiosity how big are your choromies? When my clown fish started spawning they tried to bully my yellow tang, yellowheaded jawfish, and glass cardinals. The cardinals were too fast and they killed my yellowheaded jawfish. The tang took to a while then slashed both of them. The male got the point right away but the female took two more slashes before getting the point. It's fun to see our animals mating but the aggressive behavior sucks :(.
  3. I have used Seachem Garlic Guard, Kent Garlic Extreme, and my own pressed garlic and have not had any issues with the fish refusing the food. The garlic extreme and pressed garlic have been the worse in regards of smell but the fish ate it none the less. Hope that helps, Thanks
  4. Thanks Ron.
  5. Thanks for the compliments. I use an Olympus C770. I take pretty much all my aquarium pics with a tripods. I usually put the camera right on the glass to avoid any glare.
  6. Congrats...if you can get some pictures that would be great. My clowns lay on a regular basis but they lay in a weird spot where I can not get a good picture of the eggs. There is no saving them they are basically food for the tank unless you remove them.
  7. My current mandarin eats prepared foods he made the switch over to prepared foods using a technique similar to the one Tim used. One thing that helped is when I first started getting him to eat prepared food was mixing some live brine in with them. During my feedings I turned off all the pumps as well as I have a lot of flow in the tank. Eventually out of curiosity he would try to eat the brine or mysis and now sometimes even eats ocean nutrition pellets. I soak all food in garlic, zoe, and selcon. I think he has grown to like the garlic flavor as the formula one pellets have some type of garlic in them. The stink but the fish seem to love them. One way to get a good variety is to get some macro algae from other members. Cheto is a great choice! If you have a refugium they can reproduce without predidation and eventually make their way back into the main display. If you decide to get macro algae from people make sure your pod population has reached sustainable levels before introducing a mandarin as they eat all day long. They will slowly starve and it is not a pretty sight to watch.
  8. Link to AquaNotes Lite AquaNotes Lite
  9. Sikryd, AquaNotes will probably do what you are looking for and then some if you have or plan on getting a Neptune contrller. You can hook up the controller to your tank and it will monitor/store the data for such as ORP, PH, Calcium levels etc. Aquanotes lite is the free version...still a bit buggy but will probably work for you as well. If you buy the full version there are all kinds of graphs that you can create.
  10. Home Depot, Lowes, and even Wally World (Wal-Mart) has them. In Home Depot and Lowes they are near the electrical cords like Hilary mentioned in Wally World they are near the light bulbs and shop lights.
  11. 143gadgets, You got PM.
  12. Doug, Does the marine photography committee need help with this? Or is it for professional photographers only? I am not a professional by any means but would be willing to help out in order to keep the monthly contests going. Thanks, Henry
  13. I did not really see any corals on the beach at the resort. I think I was so happy with seeing fish that I was a little side-tracked. I did however see one of the biggest seafans in my life while on an excursion to Sosua. They also had some huge urchins out there. We took a catamaran out and there were some cool corals on a reef, but for the most part if it did not move or if I could not lure it in with bread I did not take a picture of it...lol. I had to stay on the surface with my life vest. The corals that I did see were down a bit further.
  14. Thanks John. The cool thing was that you could see the fish in about 5 feet of water so you did not have leave the resort if you did not want to. I was surprised at thow many types of macro algae and fish I saw in a relatively small area.
  15. Here are a few of pictures from my recent vacation to the Dominican Republic. I am still getting the hang of underwater photograpy. More pictures from the trip can be seen by clicking on my link. Enjoy
  16. Dave how soon are you looking to do a group buy? Henry
  17. Boret, Sorry no pictures. They are laying them back in my rockwork and in front of a powerhead. I think they may lay in a new location soon. I modified the flow in the tank slightly (a snail got caught in the powerhead and broke the propeller tabs). I replaced the powerhead but it is not as strong as the the one that was there. I a not not sure they like it though as the female laid eggs on 6/3 in a different location but they consumed them by the next day :(. I am not sure if its a matter of them feeling safe or what it is but very strange. jamal, I will probably be pm'ing you with questions after my vacation. I finally got around to buying the wood for the new stand and will hopefully assemble in the next few days. Then go by some tanks and 2 liter bottles. Jon Lazar, Is the phyto you mentioned similar to freeze dried? I guess same nutritional content? I have some freeze dried that I feed on a regular basis and also some kent zoo plankton that is liquid. Thanks again everyone, Henry
  18. Jamal, I will keep that in mind when I start trying to grow my strands in a few weeks. Do you have any tips or pointers on being more successful with that strand? Thanks, Henry Grav, I have a pair of false clowns. The hatch rate gets better as they become better parents and the better their diet is. I now feed two - three times a day; small meals of course. All food is soaked in selcon, garlic, and zoe for a few hours or overnight. When mine first started there were only 20 - 30 eggs and then they ate them as fast as they male fertilized them. It was very disturbing to watch! I went from being overjoyed (while she laid them) to heeeeeeeeey stop that...you are being bad parents (while they ate them). Apparently they do not respond to or care about me tapping on the glass or me yelling at them. Now they actually take care of them till they release then they eat them . If there is no need redo your rock work leave it the way it is. I do not like mine, but I am not changing a thing right now because like you said they may take a break. I think the more stable the environment is the more comfortable they are. The tile trick works if you can get them to lay their eggs on the tile. Mine have chosen a private location and the only way for me to get them is to siphon them off on the night they release. Good luck, Henry I should have new eggs by later night . I just checked and my female is looking very full.
  19. I will need something soon. They spawned again tonight . This is the brightest orange the eggs have been. I have been increasing the feeding to 2-3 times a day now. I wish I did not have vacation coming up in the next 3 weeks or so. Thanks for all the suggestions on the strand to use.
  20. Thanks Bill I will check into the site you listed. Which do you recommend between Tetraselmis and Chloropus? Thanks, Henry
  21. Thanks for the congrats they have spawned in the past but they would always eat the eggs. It was the most annoying thing ever. That sucks your culture crashed...someone actually sent me a PM me about you and your Phyto and Rotifers. How much time did you spend each day or hours per week? I am still trying to get an idea of if it will work with my schedule. Thanks Henry
  22. My clowns are really getting into spawning on a regular basis . This is the second time this month they have keep the eggs all the way past the point of them turning silver. I can actually see the eyes. Before they would eat the eggs, but since they are now being good parents I think I may try to raise some food for them. Does anyone have a culture of photo and rotifers that they could sell me. I still need to get a spare tank set up but I figure I could at least get an idea if anyone local has a set up I could look at to help get me started. Thanks, Henry
  23. I have ordered from them in the past and if they do they put it on back order and ship when it comes. The free shipping is pretty good. They say 7-9 days, but I have gotten stuff from them in as soon as 4 days depending on when the order was placed. Thanks, Henry
