  1. Yea since I moved I am mainly looking for places I can ride out on a Sat or Sun and just look for some cool things. I am ways away from getting my new tank but like to start looking so I can start making my list.
  2. Thanks six-line...I will add these to my list as well. Looks like in MD places are a little further away from me that I had initially thought so may be able to try one a week instead of two.
  3. Thanks I will add these to my list....Saturday is shaping up to be pretty busy . 22bfan...we moved from Ashburn which I miss...lol. Hopefully once things get settled I will have some new "go to" places in MD,
  4. Hey I have recently moved to MD (Capitol Heights) and still have not gotten a chance to explore my surroundings fully. I know quality is subjective so if people could just PM the places they visit on a regualr basis I would greatly apreciate it. I have a few Saturdays about to open up and will try to get out and see what is out there. Thanks in advance
  5. Screen top is a must I have 5 wrasses I have seen dried jerky before and hopefully will be able to avoid it this go around .
  6. Very good point on bringing a few over at a time. On of my fish I have had since 2004 so would hate to loose him over stress. Will check the dimensions tonight and pick a corner:).
  7. Thanks! I will stop by the tractor supply place in the next week or so. I need to get the ball rolling on this soon! I can frame out the room and walls to get a temp idea of where stuff needs to go and hopefully it will be less stress on the fish.
  8. We are in process of closing on a home but I have a weeeee bit of problem that I hope some have faced before. Currently we live in in Ashburn and plan on moving to MD sometime in June. The current home (Ashburn) we want to rent out but there is a fish tank in the wall (180) which means I have to fix the wall back to the original condition. In the new home there will be a giant fish tank in the wall as well but the fish room has not been built nor has the tank been ordered. My dry run of the size tank I wanted failed a month or so back so I have been updating my plans. At some point I will need to shut down my current tank in Ashburn move fish to a temp home in MD and finish the fish room. I have about 12 fish in the 180. Should I look to buy a bunch of 10 or 20 gallon tanks and plumb them together temporarily or just one of those black containers I see people use for a sump until I finish all my construction and the new tank arrives and cycles. In the past what have people done when in between two tanks?
  9. Below are a few links I refer to from time to time.... http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_2/cav2i2/aquarium_photography/photography.htm http://www.petfishtalk.com/shows_special/photography/photography.htm http://reeftools.com/nn/how-can-i-take-good-pictures-of-my-reef-tank/ http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-11/gr/index.php http://www.ximinasphotography.com/lessons/lesson06/techniques_5.html http://www.ximinasphotography.com/lessons/lesson06/techniques_6.html Once you get past the initial set up...these are a few things to keep in mind to get great shots... A few things to get some good shots would be the following: 1. Use a tripod. 2. Cut off all pumps and let the tank settle for a bit before shooting otherwise you have to edit out "snow". 3. Shoot in RAW if you can. 4. Shot in Manual mode if trying to show a stationary object. 5. Bring your ISO down to 100 or the lowest you camera can support. Hope that helps....
  10. Any local vendors carry any of this?

I have shot on various cameras over the years from an Olympus C70-UZ to my Canons (Rebel Xsi, T4i, and now 70D). A good macro lense helps but is not necessary. I brought a 100mm f2.8 just for tank photography. Some of my early shots that were decent were done with a tripod and some magnifying attachments. Top down boxes are great to give a different perspective. More than anything be patient and master your camera. You can use any photo editing software that works for you. Once you do that you will be surprised what you can achieve. Blues and purples are still hard for me but I just need more practice. Any questions feel free to ask. Hope that helps Below are a few I have taken in the past all of which are dead after my tank crash a while back.. 16. Great shot Billy! I really like the colors on that thing.
  17. epleeds - It has worked for me for a while now. Any little pests will fall off and die. I also monitor the corals to see if they looked stressed. 20 mins is the max you should do it and I have found some of the millis do not like that long. After that I rinse and shake them in another bucket of water from tank. Finally I have a third bucket I use a turkey blaster as one final step before they go in tank.
  18. Gadgets - Yep 20 min dip in Flat Worm Exit, Iodine, and Coral Revive. Coral Hind - Thanks. surf&turf - Thanks and congrats on being voted Tank of the Month.
