  1. Sorry...I have no idea what that coral is...but I'm not good at identifying corals. -Carl
  2. It's in Mechanicsburg PA. I don't remember the name of the place, but can look at my credit card receipt if you want to visit. -Carl
  3. I was at a Chinese Restaurant a couple of weeks ago. They had a very nice tank (150 perhaps??- not sure) right in the middle of the room. Standing right beside the tank was this 6 1/2 foot tall tube thing... Come to find out...it is a custom skimmer made by the owner. It couldn't have cost them more than $40 plus the air pump and stones. It was simply a 6 inch pipe with a few air stones run to the bottom, and a collection cup up top. The inhabitants looked healthy...maybe not such a bad idea...if they could only hide it someplace. More pictures of the same tank.
  4. Jacob - I am very interested in seeing your tank...but unfortunately I will be at a family event this weekend...and won't be able to attend the spring meeting...or see your tank. I hope you will offer a tank tour next time. -Carl
  5. I'm not sure if your wrasse is releated one I had? I had a 5 inch bird wrasse that ate EVERYTHING, including my cleaner shrimp and my hermit crabs. He's now back at the LFS. -Carl
  6. Will anyone be at BRK today before 4pm? I'd like to pick it up before rush-hour. -Carl
  7. JM, Garrett, Both of you have slow turnover in the fuge...can you guess on approximate gallons/hour? -Carl

    Ozone - How to

So if ozone clarifies the tank...and so does a UV light...do you need one or the other? or both? advantages? disadvantages? assuming a reef tank? FOWLR tank? (is this one of those DSB vs BB discussions????)
  9. Do you sell IO in the 200 gal boxes? If so, how much are they? Thanks,
  10. I woke up this morning...the tank was up to 75 degrees (it's usually around 78 degrees)...so I returned it from 68 to 75 over 20 hours or so...hopefully that was slow enough. I don't think anything has died off...couldn't tell with the lights out early this morning when I checked. I had to run out of town this morning, so not sure what is alive and not. And to top it off, I got a call an hour ago from my wife...she was trying frantically to remove the "snow-storm" of food my 7 year old son put in the tank. I make food every weekend...put it in an ice cube tray, so my family can feed the tank a pre-measued amount when I'm gone...Needless to say, I forgot to make the food on Sunday, so my son decided 2 hand-fuls should do the trick.... :wall: :wall: :wall:
  11. Like I said last time...I've never seen a healthier tank than yours. When you look down, what do you see? the stand underneath? I assume you don't have a painted bottom. Do you like it ?
  12. :bigcry: So, am I the only one in the area that lost electricity last night around 2am...and am I also the only one without a proper AC backup to keep the tank running? I woke up this morning to my tank at 68 degrees. :wall: I hooked up my 2 DC/AC 400 watt converters in the car, kept the car running all day, got the circulation going, but they wouldn't run my 300 watt heater. I got the tank back up to 70 degrees, but no further with a 50 watt heater. Now that electricity went back on about 30 minutes ago...my tank is now at 70.3 degrees. So far nothing is floating upside down toward the top of the tank...
  13. None of the above...my kids name them...
  14. Chris - I just sent you a PM. I'm interested in the LR. -Carl
  15. Chris - let's see pictures with the NEW LOOK.
  16. I am ALL over this idea !!! I'll PM you !!! -Carl
  17. I have a computer with a DVD burner...haven't tried using it yet... Are you looking for a single copy? or multiple?
  18. I've had quite a few fish "disappear" over the last year as well...2 Green Chromis, Hawkeye and a pygmy angel...I can't imagine it's my brown stripped brittle star???
  19. Chris - Are you adjusting for white balance? Shooting with all your lights on? Adjusting color once you get it on your computer?
  20. I'll take two ... if you can work out the Long Island thing. -Carl
  21. Jon - thanks for your input on the clowns and the tank. Right now, I don't have the time/capacity to try and raise/feed the clownfish eggs. But if you (or anyone else) would like to try and raise them, let me know, and I will give them to you. The good/bad news is that they are all on my powerhead...so I can let you borrow the powerhead...if you have another one that I can borrow until they hatch. As far as the new tank goes...I will do that...because I need all the help/suggestions I can get. -Carl
  22. I've been running a hang-on Bakpak skimmer on my 70 gallon Reef for 7 years. My tank also has 2 internal powerheads, and live rock. The only maintenance I've done in the 7 years is replace the Rio pump and air hoses after 6 years. I have lots of live rock, and don't overstock the tank with fish. Carl
  23. Thanks Emissary I would love to come by and see your setup. I don't see a big difference between a 100 gallon setup and a 1000 setup...unless I'm missing something. They each would have plumbing, a recirculating pump, sump tank, skimmer, lights, R/O filter, top-off etc... What I'm most interested in is how to make my life (maintenance) as easy as possible. Initially - Plumbing, ball valves, one-way valves, what happens when electricity goes out or pump fails (my used tank already has 5 holes in the BOTTOM), top-off, fresh water and pre-mix tanks. Not put in initially, but leave room for other mechanicals - chiller, Calcium Reactor , other?? After viewing your website I've picked up on a few things already - i.e. -put a drain in the floor, have a 40 gallon holding tank of water. I sent you an e-mail...let me know if you've received it. -Carl
  24. I joined WAMAS at the meeting last night - it was great meeting/talking with many of you - I look forward to learning/sharing with the group. I am the guy who has had the 500 gallon tank sitting on my basement floor for a year and a half, and have been too overwhelmed to start the project. But after speaking with a few of you last night - I now have a goal of Dec 31, 2006 to be completed !!! I noticed that last summer the club had "Tank Tours". Is this something that is on-going? I would love to see some larger tank set-ups...getting lessons learned...before I start down the wrong path. On another note - I have a 5 year-old, 70 gallon reef tank. 2 powerheads, bakpak skimmer, 3 Power Compact 90Watt lights. I've noticed a patch about 2 inches square of what could be clown-fish eggs right where my percula clowns hang out. Now what do I do? What could be good news (if these are in-fact eggs, and I have to get them out of the tank) is that the patch of eggs is ON my powerhead. -Carl
