  2. GSP are known to overtake rockwork. Most that have them keep them on a rcok island so they cant spread. I would recommend moving them so they are less likely to take over your rock work and crowd out or sting your other coral. The white tubes in in your GSP look like mini feather dusters. They are fine IMO. I am not sure what the other white things are called but I think they are fine too.
  3. For all those that use a Ca Rx, what is the best effluent control valve out there? I have a Two Little Fishies micro ball valve. I have a hard time making small/precise changes to the drip rate. Is there a better or easier control valve on the market? If so, where did you get it? Thanks
  4. No reflector will get light to penetrate rock. Take advantage and put some lower light coral back there. And I bet the tanks you are chasing look so good becasue of consistency over a long period of time. Relax...OOOoooooossssssaaaaaaa....
  5. I DO NOT want to touch the hieney! But I really do miss the T5 rig I had. Will go back to them someday.
  6. For those that have the stars, how big and old is your system? How long have you had the stars in the tank? I ask this because I thought they have a tendency to quickly eat all the micro fuana in the tank then slowly die due to lack of a food source. If Huly's system is too young or small, a sand star may not be good choice. Also from LA: "As such, the Sand Sifting Sea Star should be actively fed a varied diet consisting of natural food sources, especially in well-established marine aquariums. Otherwise, this voracious feeder will quickly clean your aquarium of detritus and then burrow into your substrate, starve, and eventually begin to decay." I would also consider your ability/desire to feed it to keep it alive long term.
  7. Nice work. Let us know how it works.
  8. Kinda off topic...Target in Burke still has D batteries for your air pumps if you are scrambling for more. (not that I was one of those people mind you!) Good luck everyone!
  9. Agree with you checking with the locals first. Then check out their website bulkreefsupply.com. There is a FAQ on the lower right. Besides the discounted prices of the group buy, they ship your items directly to you. You dont have to travel or work out pick up times with the organizer. Overall a very painless evolution.
  10. Looks really good Travis. What do you think caused the acans to turn brown? What did you do to correct/eliminate the cause?
  11. I have the elite aquatics version. Not bad. I only did it for one day. A 4" tang in a small swim area made me nervous. Hard to tell if it made intro easier. I would observe the new fish and tank mates to determine how long to leave in the box.
  12. Ahem....your camera should be back in working order by now. FTS and update please!

    Pods

+1 I used bottled Tiger Pods from BRK for a while to seed the tank. After I was successful with the first mandarin, I added another. I bought and added two bags of pods from reefcleaners.org about two weeks before adding the second. Both seem happy and healthy.
  14. Sounds like your heater cant keep up. Does temp drop after lights out? I think a second heater is a good idea. I would buy heaters that could carry the load alone in case one fails.
  15. Before After Thanks again Jan!
  16. I would think the same as any other frag. Since they come with some amount of rock on their base. I would put super glue on that the use hands or tweezers to attach to rock in DT. Thanks for the personal call then posting this Jan. You have my vote for WAMASer of the Year!
  17. I bought one of these and have employed it twice. Works as advertised.
  18. With all that light does it really matter?! Like the coverage. Interested to see how you handle the hood and heat. Man, I love this thread!!!
  19. 40W user here. I like it. Have I seen visible differences from before and after...um maybe the water is a little clearer. I dont QT so it gives a warm fuzzy that I am killing some of the nasties although I cant prove it has. Benefits? To me there are...if only mental.
  20. Quick somewhat related quesiton...what is the "best" microvalve out there to the effluent control drip rate? And where did you find it? Ron
  21. Thanks Steve. I will keep an eye on my zoas.
