  1. I run a 40W aqua uv. Oversized for my tank but I like it a lot.
  2. ...or it will accumulate car keys, old receipts, chap stick, WAMAS thongs, etc... I say stick it out with the stock stand especially if you plan to upgrade.
  3. Why would you remove GFO and Carbon? You said the rest of the tank looks okay. I would not change the entire chemistry of the tank becasue of a few frags. Have you dipped them? I would dip them, swish them around and then inspect the frags and water for things that fell off or are visibly PO'd. I found that doing the inspection in a dark room and a flashlight helps pick out the nasties. If you dont see any red bugs (probably free swimming and hard to see) or AEFW, then I would suggest the simplest answer, the frags may not like their current location. Move them to a location with different lighting and/or flow and see how they respond. Good Luck Ron

  6. Screwdriver/chisel at detach point and a hammer?
  7. I did a mixture of all of the above. I think if you put a HUGE dent in it by manual removal the emaeralds can keep it in check. Another thought is to make sure your clean up crew is adequate. I think adding hermits and or emeralds to scavenge uneaten food in the rocks, particularly pellets, helps keep nutrients down...therfore less BA.
  8. Do you have before and after pics?

  14. the forts in san juan are something to behold el yunque rain forrest is also great. Never went but I heard arecibo is really cool. My wife and I did a mini boat snorkel tour out of fajardo. Snorkeling may be a bit ho-hum for you tho. Have fun
  15. Their selection online is pretty good. Ordered a pbt from them and was very happy with it, price, size, and overall health. Coral selection is standard and overpriced. Shipping costs are on par with other etailers. But the shipping method was a little hinky. Sent me a UPS tracking number but arrived at Fedex location?! How does that happen?
  16. Here is an older thread on the topic. fun read
  17. Quote from RC's tank of the month for this month. Small excerpt, you have to read the entire thing to get a good picture of how/why he is successful. I try to keep my system simplistic. I last changed the water in my aquarium 3 years and 8 months ago. At that time, it was basically as I was setting my current aquarium up in September 2008. Since then I just add freshwater by pouring it into the aquarium. Every two weeks I use a calcium chloride additive to supplement calcium depletion. I also add magnesium chloride, magnesium sulphate, and sodium hydrogen carbonate (baking soda). These additives keep my calcium, alkalinity, and my magnesium at proper levels. Occasionally, I will add Lugols. I also add live marine phytoplankton at times. Water Parameters: Salinity: 1.026 (refractometer) Temperature: 25 - 27
  18. What do you mean by "cooking"? The rock is dead, there should not be any die off to require a skimmer nor anything alive to require a light.
