  7. ^ I agree. Check out the Bulkreefsupply calculator. It provided good numbers for me to maintain and increase values based on tank volume and observed demand.
  8. That IS the question. Everyone BUT Ryan thinks his tank is fine. Seriously, Ryan, I would just sit tight. The results you are hoping for may not justify the costs...espeically if the algae persists. I would move the MP40s and see if a new flow pattern helps. Or move your rocks to change the flow pattern. These are far cheaper to do and may solve your "problem"!
  9. I run mine either reefcrest (yellow) or Nutrient export mode (purple/pinkish). Always anti sync. Just found this for setting the modes Once it's set as a slave just push the mode button and it will cycle through white=sync orange=anti sync tourquoise=back of tank mode. Or go to the website and download the owners manual.
  10. No two tanks are alike, due to rock placement, rock size/shape, how water flows around rocks, coral placement, etc. I would experiment with placement of the 40s. I actually like yours on the back wall, they kinda blend in. Maybe spread them out or move them up an inch or so, particularly the lower one. I like the two smaller 40s vice the one large 60. Allows you more flexibility and redundancy in case of one fails. Tank looks great.
  11. I use this for the tank and this when making new water. They both have worked well with zero issues....knock on wood!
  12. Considereing the size and incomplete form of most asterinas I find in the tank, this guy surprised me. I can't imagine how long its been around to reach ~1". Anyone seen bigger?
  13. Yes I know that's a lot of bubble algae! Sorry I forgot to clean the glass before I started snapping.
  14. For the record, I have never target fed my zoas and they seem to be fine.
  15. I used reef nutition products once or twice a week. Since everyone's tank is different, you will have to feed and monitor how your tank reacts. Dont feed too much too often at the expense of water quality.
  16. +1 they do sell the box seperately. Call for specs before you drill to ensure proper alignment
  17. Ahhh my nemesis...I can't kill it but I can grow it like a champ! Check pg 4 of my build thread. My infestation was/is FAR WORSE than what you can see in those pics! I have not found rabbitfish or emerald crabs to be effective. I lost count of the number of rabbits I have tried. The latest rabbit is by far the healthiest, thanks BRK, but shows ZERO interest in the BA. Don't tell Rob but I finally removed some of the rocks and manually harvested a lot of my bubbles. It helped but I still have a ton AND they are slowly coming back. I would start with manual removal outside of the tank if possible. If your rocks are small enough, fill a 5g bucket with old tank water when you are doing a water change. Take out a rock, pick off the bubbles then swish the rock in the water and replace in tank. If you can't remove the rocks, try not to pop to the bubbles when manually attacking. Next check your RO/DI system to make sure your TDS are where they should be. Then I would recommend reducing your nutrients and light sked. I changed my resin and cut back on lights and feeding. Could be wishful thinking but I think I am turning a corner. Seems like there are more clear/withering bubbles than before and they are not returning as fast as before either. Good luck!
  18. RR tanks usually have the overflow compartment from top to bottom i.e. take up space in the tank. The new overflow kits are relatively small and free up space otherwise consumed by the typical RR design. I have not heard if they are quiet which could be a detractor. My vote is for drilling yourself with one of those new kits due to their smaller in tank footprint.
  19. The suspense... JK, looking forward to the update.
  20. I thought that was just with DE HQI bulbs. The "nipple" needs to face up.
  21. I have a total of four baffles. In the last pic, the skimmer section is on the right. Return pump in the middle and the fuge is on the left. I got the glass cut at Banner Glass in FFX, I think that location is closed now but they have others. Glass, silicone, and ZERO DIY skills. Thats all you need! HTH
  22. Depends...what is your nitrate reading? Looks like things are porgressing. Did you add more live rock?
  23. Cant see anything that makes it worth the extra cash. I think there is a BRS group buy runnig right now too. You might be able to get it for less than the listed price.
  24. Hmmmm, I agree, the float will shut off water to your resivoir before it floods however, you will continue to send water down the drain until you manually turn off the tap. We waste enough water when we "make" water. I would think it is best to employ the auto shutoff valve to limit the wasting of water. I would go for the complete setup not just the float valve. Ryan is not wrong I just dont agree.
