  1. You should be able to use a car battery charger. Something like this: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02871222000P?mv=rr you might be able to find cheaper elsewhere, just make sure it has automatic shutoff when the battery is fully charged.
  2. I meant once power is back, you charge the battery for next time
  3. DOH! The inverter I have can attach directly to a car battery. Problem then is you need to go buy a car battery. Sorry to hear about all your troubles lately :( Im here if you need to store stuff. But Im kinda far for you.
  4. Ron, you probably dont need to run a return pump. Forget the skimmer and all that jazz during the power outage. Make sure you have water flow from powerheads and for oxygenation, maybe use a battery powered air pump or hook that up to the UPS. The less stuff you hookup to the UPS, the longer it will run!
  5. Im home today Guy. You can also borrow one of my power inverters Or you can run to the Germantown Costco and pickup a power inverter that plugs into your car. I think they are $20-30? That would buy you some time!
  6. That would work, but it would be best to have one you can both attach directly to a battery. That way you dont have to run a long extension cord to your car. When the battery is almost dead, you can hook a charger up to it and charge.
  7. James, depending on the capacity of the battery and how many pumps you are running it should last quite a bit of time. Hook up a power inverter to it and youre good to go! If you need to charge the battery, hook to your car and run it
  8. Ive learned from my past mistakes. All fish go into "QT" at least for a week to see if they have issues. Like my latest group purchase. HUGE Ich outbreak in QT tank after 4 days. Imagine that in my main tank now?! BRK has a really good QT procedure where they lower salinity and treat w/ copper. That's about the only LFS Id trust to not go into QT, but just to be safe, I still do it. If the fish doesnt show signs of disease.. I slowly raise the salinity before introduction. Typical time is at least 2-4 weeks.
  9. Awesome. That beats having to drive to Ikea all the time
  10. Im here now Guy, might be going out for the afternoon but will be back later tonight also. You will need something to feed the reactor though. I dont have any spare pumps here :(
  11. Guy, If you want to borrow a PhosBan reactor in the time being give me a call. I have one Im not using.
  12. Dunno why, but everytime I go Sonny cracks me up. Keeps me going back for sure. But I like bringing my friend Rainbowfish (Jack) over there with me. Sonny ALWAYS makes funny remarks to him. LMAO!!
  13. Troy, Saw this on RC.. thought you might be interested: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...hreadid=1400422
  14. Cliff, I just gave a huge batch to Guy (amay121). Maybe he could spare some for ya Or if you wait a week or two, Ill have more
  15. Eric, Phosphates cause algae issues Magnesium is needed to make sure Alk and Ca can be maintained. Good article here: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/oct2003/chem.htm
  16. Take Cliff up on the offer. That's much better!
  17. That is kind of the same conclusion I gathered. A nice treat for other fish and corals
  18. Forrest, I think I paid $25+ for it. Used for like a week. $15 sound fair?
  19. Ive had the same.. along w/ Cleaner Shrimp babies too! One night I wa slooking and was amazed by all the little guys swimming around. I researched a little thinking I could raise them, but almost every site says they are super hard to raise.
  20. Yea, HD. Ive had it trip once when my Rio pump was busted.
  21. Forrest, Glad you are ok. Electricity moves in the path of least resistance. That was you GFCI is a must, even if you need to get the plug in ones. I have a couple leftover from before I converted to GFCI outlets. Let me know if interested
  22. Me too... I was just about to throw away a big chunk too!
  23. Depends on the wrasse. 6-line wrasses dont get that big.
  24. I love tangs too and am trying my best to resist! Right now I have a 125G with: Powder Brown Tang (5+") Purple Tang (4+") Hippo Tang (4+") The PBT definitely chases the other two around. When I first put them together the PBT was super aggressive. Now they follow each other around and rarely fight. I say I am trying to resist because I want one more!!!! :( Id love to add a Naso or Yellow to my tank. All my other fish are small: (2) Purple Firefish Green Mandarin Randall's Goby Midas Blenny TailSpot Blenny (2) Clowns Lawnmower Blenny 6-line Wrasse Im running a modified GSA Shorty. Eventually Id like to add another wrasse to the mix... but like others here say, must do things SLOW. Those fishes look super nice, but my tank is also running the best it has ever been and I dont want to chance anything. This time around I started being extra careful (QT, good husbandry, etc).
