  1. Hrm. Ranco Controllers might not be a bad idea. A dual one is only $110 shipped!
  2. HA! I have a 44G trashcan full of waste water and a bunch of 5G buckets full. I dunno what to do with it all!!!! The dogs only need a little bit, can only wash my cars so much and there is only so many things I can water in the yard!!! LOL
  3. Didnt someone just recently give a presentation on this? :P O wait... there he is I thought someone mentioned putting the presentation up somewhere for people who missed the meeting?
  4. In that case, they are talking about the same thing and there is no difference. Have a link to the product?
  5. Pendants have reflectors inside them. Usually when only reflectors are sold, they are for retrofit kits. Not sure about luminosity between SE and HQI bulbs, but the latter allows for smaller fixtures.
  6. Is this the spreadsheet you are referring to James?: http://www.aquariumcontrollers.com/aquariu...controllerchart Also their short blurb on the new RK Elite: http://www.aquariumcontrollers.com/news_page.php?article=8
  7. Sorry to hear William! But glad nothing worse happened! I had a similar situation this week. I put my ballast in the same sump area and it got super hot. Coupled with me leaving the sump light on during the day, temps hit 86! Took a fan and putting ziploc bags of ice into the tank to bring it down. Was up for 4 hours watching the temps slowly drop :( A controller seems to be a good future investment for me too. Im looking into this new one coming out soon: http://www.digitalaquatics.com/m_product_i...ber=30-0011-001 Any comments on it vs. ACIII?
  8. When you can see their guts and the spit out brown goop :(
  9. Sorry to hear man! Hopefully you'll be back up and running soon!
  10. Tried moving coral once, and then the other time I put the crab on the opposite side of the tank. He made his way over in less than 4 hours and got stuck again.
  11. no pests, but there is a acro crab in there. It's annoying caus once he gets in there, he cant get out! I have to manually yank him. Which requires me taking the birds nest out. blah! Thinking about throwing him into the sump. None of my other hermits want to even come near the birds nest. Just this HUGE one that came on the coral.
  12. I have this large blue legged hermit that keeps getting stuck in my birds nest! Everytime I pull him out, he manages to get himself back into the birds nest the next day! Is he going back to the birds nest for some particular reason?
  13. What size sump would you guys recommend for a 125G?
  14. I have a small brain coral frag (Favia type) and in two of the "holes", there is either a small shrimp or crab. I tried taking pics, but it wont come out. I can see what looks to be claws. They dont really come out of the hole even during feeding. Ive seen some pictures on the web of filter feeding crabs with fan looking claws, but this does not seem to be the case. Should I take this coral out? They seem harmless, but that's what I thought about majanos too :(
  15. Thanks. Someone else had also suggested putting some super glue where the algae was. Ive tried blasting w/ a turkey baster to no avail. The coral is fairly recent. I may have rushed the acclimation though. I got it as a frag without it being mounted to rubble/discs etc. The only place I could acclimate it was on the side of my tank where I put eggcrate. Since this area is further from the point source of the MH lights, I kept it higher. It was here for a few days and then I moved it to it's current location which is fairly high and under the MH lights. So it would seem my own acclimation procedure and rushing it into place has caused this. Should I break it off from the spot it is mounted and move it lower? Or leave it in place? At the moment I have put eggcrate above the tank so less light gets through. Not sure if this will help.
  16. Thanks, Ill have to make a HD run to get new snips since all the ones I have are quite dirty
  17. Ive got some very small algae growth on a couple of tips of some SPS. Very small amount on SPS only near the very top of the tank. Is this something I should be concerned about? Put super glue over the algae? Picture here: http://brakeswapracing.com/ericwong/tank/spsalgae.jpg
  18. Here is the link you are referring to I believe: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/july2003/feature.htm I have ReefOptix IIIs so it looks like the spread/PAR is good for at least a 2x2 area if not slightly more. So 3 it is!
  19. Thanks John, might take you up on that if I head over that way sometime. Gonna check out Wreck's setup today and see if I cant get some ideas and start building. Im going for an open top canopy like I had setup for the 75G: http://brakeswapracing.com/ericwong/tank/75gcanopy.jpg
  20. You have to be on their mailing list. Other problem is you have to go up on a Weds. And it is only good for one item, so unless you are buying something super expensive, it doesnt cover the cost of fuel/time.
  21. Back to lighting since I am in the same boat. I bought two 250W MH Pendants for my 75G and plan to use them over the 125G. Do I get one more or two more? Or maybe set the two 250W on the sides and a 400W in the center? My plan is to build a canopy and put in 4x96 PC retro for actinics. (Thanks BigJPDC)
  22. I believe you have to goto the store to use it. I remember reading a thread a while back where someone asked and the person from TPP said it is used to get more foot traffic into the store. EDIT: Found it: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...hreadid=1275791
  23. Awesome! I'd love to check it out. PM me with details. On the flip side, if you ever need help on your car/truck, lemme know. Tools, etc need to do most everything
  24. Anyone have a link to plans to build a 72" canopy or a canopy in general?
