  1. Well Jon, if you take one of the zeros off that price I'll take one. I also have a green torch coral I could frag to trade you. Steve
  2. Well, I can't speak for the "R" rating......although I think we can all figure it out! :D I was just referring to his state of being after he tried tickling one of the snapping turtles on the chin he'd be drawing back a nub!
  3. Oh, you're welcome to them Howard.......or should I call you Lefty???
  4. Well crap.....they're snapping turtles. Looks like I'm setting them free.
  5. My kids and I just witnessed a truly awesome thing. I was moving some dirt and grass clippings out behind our house and found a turtles nest and the eggs were hatching. Now here's the kicker.......instead of the turtles going toward the creek they started into my yard. Long story short, I now have 12 baby turtles swimming around my 40g breeder tank (with fresh water in it of course). We're keeping three but are giving the rest away. Anyone interested?
  6. Please refer to the following link: http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1465
  7. Small steps Howard, small steps. I have to wait and see if I even GET the calcium reactor. So far I haven't heard back from JFish.
  8. Ok, so I was going to buy a kalk reactor to put on my tank when I came across a deal on a calcium reactor and co2 tank. Are there any issues with running a calcium reactor without a kalk reactor? What are the benifits of having both?
  9. Yo- Don't worry about the walls..............just make sure you're wearing a tin foil helmet at all times. That way noone can read your thoughts........or can they??
  10. You're a proud member of this club but this is your first post???? Sounds fishy!
  11. Regarding the peppermint shrimp; I've read that there are actually 2 types of peppermints......one that eats aptaisia and one that doesn't. The ones that do eat it don't go for the big ones. Regarding the kalk injections; I tried the syringe method with kalk and found that they withdraw when you get close to them so it can be hard to spear them with the syringe. The Joe's Juice comes with an applicator syringe that allows you to put it right into the mouth of the son of a guns. It's amazing, they just sit there and eat it up.........NO MORE APTAISIA.
  12. I just got some Joe's Juice and it works wonders. My main goal was to get rid of the biggies and to get some peppermint shrimp to handle the little guys and the ones I can't see. I don't think you should dip the rock in boiling water. I believe that if you have a lot of die-off on the rock it will send the tank into a cycle which you probably don't want (who does?). I'd go with the Joe's Juice and peppermint shrimp. The kids will probably enjoy the peppermints.....they are pretty cool to watch. Steve
  13. I just shot the darn thing and fried him up.......KFC got nothin on me!
  14. What are the best (easiest)test kits for calcium and alkalinity?
  15. Pez- So if I put both fans on the sides and have them pushing air in would the back of the canopy (8" from the wall) be enough of an opening to vent out? My thought on having one pushing and one pulling was to keep a constant stream of air moving across the water.
  16. Pez- That's what I figured. Is there another kind of shrimp that the CBS will leave alone or are they just mean and territorial? Steve
  17. I've currently got 2 3" fans in my canopy for ventilation. They are mounted on the back so one is blowing in toward the front of the canopy and one is blowing out of the back. I have a couple of 6" fans that I want to mount in there. I was thinking about drilling a 6" hole on both sides of the canopy and having one blowing in one side and one blowing out the other to keep air moving through the canopy. Is this the best way to mount the fans? Does anyone know a good place to get fan covers? Thanks.
  18. So recently I had been noticing that my cleaner shrimp's feelers weren't as long as they used to be. I had also noticeds that he was hanging out in one corner of the tank. Well, now he has up and disappeared without a trace and my pair of coralbanded shrimp look awfully guilty. Any ideas what might have happened? Will coral banded shrimp attack other shrimp?
  19. Thanks David. I'm going to test my alkalinity anyway. I have the brain on a rock on the bottom of the tank. Don Bui had it about 1/2 way up so I'm going to try moving him up a little bit to see if that helps. I just hope I haven't lost him. Steve
  20. I'll test the alkalinity tonight. Haven't tested in a while. Steve
  21. I have a red favia brain that I got from Don Bui. When I first put it in my tank I thought it fell victim to RTN. However, the tissue degeneration stopped so I thought I was ok. Now it's starting to bleach. All of the other corals in my tank are thriving. Any ideas? I'd like to save it and if that means giving it to someone else, so be it. Steve
  22. Can you list out everything seperately with prices so we know what you have? Thanks, Steve
  23. If you go with glass be sure to tell them to round the 2 bottom corners to compensate for the silicone bead on the sump.
  24. You can either get glass cut for dividers or use acrylic. I got glass cut for mine for $5.00 each (the glass and cutting it to size). Steve
  25. Glad to hear everything is looking ok. I was going to use some eggcrate material on the end of my 90's to act as strainers. Ever since I hooked up my supersquirt I've had to use a mag 9 instead of my mag12. Can you see any problems with the eggcrate?
