  1. Chip- I was considering going larger but didn't know if having 2' of 1" pipe loaded with holes in it would be enough to not strain the pump. I think I'll try 1-1/4 and go smaller if I can. Thanks for the input.
  2. I don't have the exact Alk level but it was a little low when I tested it this weekend. I have a green bali in the tank that is thriving. I guess my real question is, Will they recover from bleaching or do I need to remove it from my tank?
  3. Anyone?
  4. Gary- I'll be running the pump externally. My original plan was to have the intake as an inverted "T" of 1" PVC in the tank and have it going 1 foot in each direction. That way it will be sucking water from both sides of the tank. What I don't want to do is strain the pump too much or make it so a critter can't get off the intake if it get's stuck on it. Would it be better to use 1-1/4 for the intake and reduce it down? Thanks Steve
  5. I am getting ready to put together my closed loop using a Quiet One 6000 and an OceansMotions Super Squirt. I'm going to be using 1" PVC for the whole system. My question is; How do I determine how big of an intake to have? I'll be using a system similar to this one: http://www.melevsreef.com/closedloop.html Thanks.
  6. All I'll say is to stay away from the Condi anemone. I had one eat my foxface.
  7. Lee Stearns gave me a nice frag of bali slimer. I thought it was doing well but it has started to bleach. Can these things recover after they start to bleach??
  8. chip- Don't forget about the pump. Thanks, Steve
  9. Ok, the kids have given me an ultimatum. Someone can come and get a free Condi or he goes to a LFS (if I can find one to take him).
  10. That's what I'm starting to think! Alex, MIA = Missing In Action
  11. Ok, this is weird......but I just noticed that my foxface is MIA. What the H-E-double hocky sticks is going on???
  12. Ok, I had my return pump come off last night, which sprayed water on the GFCI, which kicked the breaker. It wasn't off for more than 20 mins and everyone looked fine. Today I get home from work and what used to be an 8" condi now looks like just the foot. All of his tenticles have been pulled in.......it's almost like he's turning inside out. Any ideas???
  13. Chip- What is the flow rate on yours? I'm looking to use this for my closed loop so it would have about 3' of head pressure to deal with. Let me know the flow rate and how much you want for it. Thanks, STeve
  14. Does anyone have any experience running these externally?
  15. Thanks Erik - I might be calling you for help when I get my regulator for my CO2 tank. BTW, how often do those need to be refilled?
  16. Ok, I have a 120g tank with softies, LPS and SPS in it. I'm trying to decide on what the most efficient means of adding calcium to my tank is. Right now I have a My Reef Creations CR-1 calcium reactor that I haven't set up yet. Would the calcium reactor be the best way to go or would the kalk reactor be more beneficial?
  17. I am starting to get an overabundance of brown zoos on my rock. I have one rock covered with them and various colonies spread all over the remaining live rock in my tank. I am looking to limit these to the one rock and get some other colors in the tank. What is the best way to remove the zoos from unwanted areas?
  18. I'm going to be putting the 20g tank in my wife's classroom in 2 weeks. I have a good cleanup crew and a pencil urchin in the tank but that is all I have for livestock. I'm looking for a donation of a couple of Perc's or false Perc's for the tank. thanks.
  19. I'm doing a group order from SWF.com and they have peppermints. See post in members section.
  20. Howard- Now I'm worried about the noise and heat issue. I think I'm just going to sell my mag12 and go with an iwaki or a mak. Steve
  21. Ok, can anybody recommend an external pump that's good, cheap and around 1200 gph? Or does anybody have one they'd like to trade for a mag 12???
  22. I get my glass cut at a glass shop in Manassas......they even round the 2 bottom corners so it doesn't mess with the silicone on the bottom of an aquarium. They cut mine for $6.00 per baffle.
  23. I currently have 2 1" overflows and a mag9.5 running through an OM super squirt as a return. I would like to change that to having a mag5 as the return with the outlet somewhere on the back of the tank behind the live rock. I'd then like to make a closed loop with my mag12 running through the OM super squirt. My goal here is to increase flow in the tank while giving my skimmer more time with the water. Are there any problems running the mag12 externally? Should I convert 1 of my overflows to be the intake of the closed loop or should I build one like this: http://www.melevsreef.com/closedloop.html Any advice or opinions are appreciated. Thanks.
  24. Do any of the LFS sell any calibration fluid for the TDS meters?
  25. I have the Coralife super skimmer on my 120 as well. It's a needle wheel skimmer and pretty much plug and play. The only adjustment that you need to make is if you want you skimmate wet or dry. check out this link on reef central: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...25&pagenumber=1
