  1. That's a rock with stuff growing on it!
  2. Sorry folks, but I decided to keep it. Looks like I caused a lot of commotion for nothing. Steve
  3. I have to agree with more water. I have a mag12 and 2 1" bulkheads and they keep up just fine with the mag12. Your new pump is only 300gph more than the mag12 so I would think that the 3 1" bulkheads would have no problem keeping up with it. Just a thought. Steve

  5. Rent, If you want to do a 1/2 way upgrade I have a 55g AGA with an oak stand that I'll give you for $50.00. No scratches and no leaks. Just an option.
  6. I would also check with the landlord about having a bigger tank if you're on anything but the 1st floor. Not necessarily a weight issue but they get funny about insurance.
  7. I disagree with Pez.......don't start small, go big. I had to spend too much on replacing things to go bigger. There is nothing like getting a tank and then finding out that you want more room. Then you have to buy new everything and only get about 1/4 of what you paid for the smaller stuff. Also, on the lights. I think that using MH for actinic lighting is a waste of money. You can get 2 VHO's, the ballast to run them and all the wiring for about $100.00. that's a H-E-double hocky sticks of a lot cheaper than getting just 1 MH. Go for the 3 250w MH and 2 VHO actinics. I think you'll be happy with it.
  8. Anton- When we moved my 120g we moved it from Vienna to Woodbridge. We were able to complete the move in 4 hours. I would recommend doing it in 1 day if you can. I would also recommend keeping all of your old water and mixing it with that of the new tank.......less stress on all of your livestock. Steve
  9. Welcome! This is a great club and you'll find a lot of help and great deals here. I have a 120g reef that I bought off of this site and I certainly got my moneys worth. Here is a link to a tank that you might be interested in. http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4809 It's only a 90g but it comes with a stand and the price is right. Good luck. Steve
  10. John, I have a 120g with a 30g sump. I have 2 200w heaters in my tank and they seem to do fine. I would second lmeyers suggestion for 2 because it does give you redundancy. You could probably get away with 2 300w heaters for your system. Steve
  11. I don't think that all eels aren't reef safe.......I just read that the snowflake isn't.
  12. You do realize that the eel isn't reef safe right??
  13. Howard- Last minute addition: 2 Mag float 125 90900125 7.99ea 16.00 2 Pro Scraper Blades 51900600 3.99ea 8.00 That's it dude. Thanks.
  14. Measure your canopy first. I have a 120g and I ordered the 48" VHO bulbs......well they don't fit in my canopy. 36" are on the way!
  15. i'll drink one for you tonight Howard. Happy birthday.
  16. Ok, I want to paint the inside of my canopy white. Unfortunately the inside has been stained. Is there a paint I can use that won't peel off because of the oil based stain??
  17. I've had 2 250w MH 10000k lights on my 120 since I've had it set up. The previous owner had them for a couple of years as well. I'm getting ready to add 2 110w VHO t12 actinic bulbs to the canopy. Now, my question is this: Should I gradually add the VHO's to the lighting cycle (start with an hour and increase an hour each day) or can I just run them with the MH without worry of sending any of the corals into shock? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, Steve
  18. It really sounds like Gary, Spongebob's pet snail.
  19. Alex, Even a small Hippo Tang needs room to swim. And Hippo Tangs don't stay small for long. In a tank your size it'll end up getting stressed out and probably dye on you. Steve
  20. Not trying to make things difficult are you going to order from petsolutions or would you consider ordering from somewhere else? Petsolution's stock of corals isn't very impressive.
  21. Ok folks, it looks like all I'm going to need to get this thing going is lights. I have a 36" tank so if anyone can spare a fixture please do. If I can't get one by weeks end I'm going to buy one. So, I should be ready for frags by next week. Steve
  22. Bendalat - Outstanding! Thanks for helping out. where are you located?
  23. Thanks Lee - I'll take you up on that. Right now I just have some fish in the tank. I'm not going to put anything else in the tank until I have good lights for it. thanks again for your offer. Steve
  24. THANK YOU MICHELLE! Michelle just donated a 40g tank for the elementary school tank. Also donated a pair of beautiful clowns, 2 green chromis and 2 BTA's. This thing is really starting to come together. If anybody has anything else they can donate it would be greatly appreciated. Still looking for a skimmer, live rock and lighting. thanks again Michelle.
