  1. Johnny.. OPEN THE STORE... I'm on my way
  2. nice pictures I got a piece of the red millipra, and a day later is already opening polyps and showing hints of growth. Thanks Rik for the piece.
  3. Jason have you checked your water parameters? maybe adding too much livestock could cause a spike in NH3/NH4 and kill some of the cheato.. Also, do you have a Tang in your tank? Jacob
  4. http://www.airwaterice.com/ I bought mine from airwterice.com about three years ago, and only changed the filters once. I am very happy with this unit. bought the reefkeeper unit for $139 then... I think they are still at same price, and they also provide extra filtes Jacob
  5. have you checked your water parameters lately?... that is an indication that maybe, and only maybe something in the water quality is not right... just my experience, cause I have three different types of GSP, Pachycavularias, and they sometime tell me that ALK is low... or PH is too high
  6. like Chris said, you will need substrate, then you can add rocks, and algae... everyone around here uses cheato and works good for refugiums. Copperpods and amphipods together with ghost shrimps will develop once the cheato is in place. For substrate you can use rubbles, aragonite, or even sea mud, they all work fine. Check some websites that sell refugiums, they also have the substrate suggestions, you don't have to buy it from them but at least know what to look for when setting up.
  7. Kalkwasser will provide you with a proper balance but will not supplement depleted calcium. In order to replenish calcium you will need a CA reactor (expensive). Kalkwasser is a DIY thing, ask Chip he has done severals.. and you may find one or two online selling between $115 and $175 each.
  8. your parameters sound good. For now, just lower the piece and let it sit for few month, it will grow back. It has happened to me several times, I know. On the 10 weeks old tank.... well that is pushing it, a tank should be stable and completely cycled before introducing SPS corals, this is usually after 4 or 6 month depending on the bio-load. For now, lower the piece, do not direct any flow over or towards the piece, as a matter of fact, try indirect flow, like pointing towards the glass so the flow bounces off the glass on to the piece... now take a zip of Vodka and sit back and relax, enjoy the view and growth..
  9. when I was at Rik's house he just submerged the camera into the water and took the picture... at first I thought he was going nuts (no ofense Rik), then realize it is an underwater digital camera...wow, and the pictures are so crisp and neat.
  10. 1) lowered and see if the new location helps re-growth 2) medium or moderate water flow is sufficient, do not point the power head straight into the coral 3) check water quality, parameters must be at prestine conditions in order to keep any SPS/LPS alive. Jacob
  11. aahh!! I see it every night and gave it for granted. The Leopard Wrasse making his bed under the sand bed gravel.. and right before the lights go off he buries himself under the sand and goes to sleep...
  12. ASM or EuroReef are the first two that come to mind. Call BRK
  13. they will lgo after your snails too
  14. Thank you Rik The yellow tang is getting used to his new surroundings.... and been chace by the Poter Angel.... he made friends with the BlueHippo and Leopard Wrasse...still making out with the clowns... and stargin to eat ew pieces here and there. Oh by the way, My wife loves him... he is gourgeous she said.
  15. Let it be. the piece is adjusting to new parameters, new climate, and going thru the stress transistion. IF by any remote chance it does not survive, call me I will gladly give you a mature"big" Kenya Tree coral for FREE... there ae a least 7 pieces in my tanks, you can have as many as needed. Jacob
  16. Rik Tell us more abot that camera.... brand, type, MP, etc. I saw it when I picked he yellow tang and (&*$^^% it works under water.. so sweet.
  17. have you checked the temperature in the water? is the thermostat working? This happened to me once and the water went to 64F killing one of my fish, all other survived,, since then I keep two termostats in each tank, for back up. have you checked PH.... maybe a spike on PH occured and that will kill fish last, have you checked the container where you mix your salt? I found kreeping residue in mine that killed few of my corals once.... had to cleanup and start the reservour again with new salt water
  18. wow, what a great picture... and imagination
  19. cool thing? oh there are so many... just it in front of a tank and watch at awe! the ecology of life take it's course. 1) when I was first setting my 55G tank, no clue of what to expect, and seeing all those amphipods and coperpods roam the rocks freely knowing there are no fish in the tank. 2) cleaner shrimps spawning at night and fillig the water column with tiny babies..
  20. that sounds like my cocacola bottle trap that I made available to everyone back in Aug 2005 great minds think alike
  21. LOL Rik I keep a record/log of each transaction. This includes the day it was sold, trade or received; Also includes the name of the individual with whom the trade, exchange or sale took place; and the piece/frag type of coral or fish that was trade.. In the case where I receive the frag, after I place the frag in the tank, I make a notation of the location. I already have a diagram of the rock layout of my set up and can easily describe what frag was added, when/date it was added, and the name of the coral/fish added. It may be a little cumbersome but is easier than it sounds. For those who have been to my house, you have seen the three ring binder with the sections and notations. Anyone esle is more than welcome to come and take a look. Jacob
