In a slightly different direction, can anyone recommend a HOB nano skimmer? I’ve only found a few at all. This is for a biocube 11(0r 13?) but I’m leaving the top off in order to have a good light and a HOB skimmer to not take up ANY more of the tiny tank space. as for the bigger skimmer, my original query, unfortunately it HAS to be HOB, my sump has so little space to begin with, and I dumped live rock/live rubble in one too-small-chamber and the other one is taken up by the pump, my hand can’t even fit past the pump:(
-
Yes, unfortunately it’s gotta be a HOB, my sump is small and can’t fit a good sump skimmer in with the rest of the sump stuff:(

I actually have a remora on another tank. I do like it, but prefer not to go the used route, cause I’m just too afraid to get something problematic. Does anyone have any other suggestions. I’d really PREFER not to spend $300ish if there’s $150ish ones that are more than good enough for 65ish gallons(that needs more than just barely strong enough lol)

I need a new skimmer for my 55 reef. I WAS using a seaclone 100(I adore the seaclones, I don’t get why people don’t like them), but after many years something was wrong with it so I switched to a RedSea Venturi X2 which is collecting crud, but algae is growing worse than I’ve ever seen anywhere in my life, so I need a new HOB easy, cheapish, good quality skimmer. Purely by looks I was considering these 2, and wanted any input on them or just to give u an idea of what I’m looking for. The unreachable power head makes me uncomfortable, in case it needs a good smack to get it going again, or something.

I’m having less success with acros now, too:(
-
Thank you, I’ve been a little lax on dosing
-
I have all kinds of corals, some doing better than others, due to lighting issues, but things like favias and blastos(most), and even stylocenellas, and ACROS do great, but 95% of my montis die quickly. It’s not parasites, they just QUICKLY fade color and bleach to death. Montis have always been one of the easiest corals I’ve ever kept before, but now they’re one of the hardest! No matter what level or placement in the tank:( how can my tank and lighting be fine for stylocenellas and acros, but not montis????

I need to be put on the par waiting list, how do I go about that?

Actually, it turned out that most of the screws in the boxes I bought were off by whatever is the smallest measurement there is lol. I had to get 3 boxes of the screws in order to find enough that fit! I got it all set up now, though:)

What the heck is THIS stupid thing? This is what’s ruining everything, both on the rusted original filter, and the brand new bucket/motor! It’s why I can’t remove the rusted screws, and the hole is too small for any screws to fit through. It’s not just one of them, it’s all of them are just SLIGHTLY too small for screws to screw in.
-
I have NOT, I didn’t think to look for that, thanks, I’ll do that

I’ll take pictures. Sadly tho, with the replacements I just got, I realized that it’s 100% impossible for me to do anything with the screws(on or off), even in brand new pieces. Fx5 uses some weird not-nut pieces I’ve never seen, that screws don’t seem to go into, and by removing them there’s no room to hold an actual but stable to screw into. It doesn’t help that they give u no room to work:/ at this point I’m probably gonna hafta just buy a new one, and try to return the motor and bucket:(
-
My original fx5 motor is stuck(maybe just needs a tap, or something?), but the screws r rusted, so I had to buy a new bucket and new motor, but it’s seemingly impossible to do anything with screwing it on. The bucket has these weird things instead of nuts, and the screws, which leave u no room to work with, don’t seem to go in. I’m about to return them and buy a whole new fx5 or fx4, but hate the idea of that much money, especially cause I’m just stuck by stupid rusty screws, and again by stupid Fluval parts. I guess my last option is to see if I can find someone who would be able to try to do it for me, if it’s even possible. I already put in for returning the bucket and motor, but can cancel the requests, but don’t want to put that and a working filter off, so I just have by the weekend at the longest. If anyone local(Columbia, Howard county)can help, I’d be happy to hear from you!

Although theyre clearly not the same as those harmless opaque whitish species, i want to say that these are another type of harmless planaria that just appear now and then in a tank, but looking at pictures, they sure do look a lot like those nasty red bugs! Theres a good amount of them, at least on the glass, but they don’t seem to be swarming on/around, or hurting anything.

Are these actually pikachu zoas(1st picture)? I do see multiple search results with similar looking zoas that have the small blue/not-white centers, labeled as pikachus, like in picture 2, but much more of the results, and what I see for sale, are the other type here, with wider centers, that are clearly white, with the defined border between the center and the rest of the yellow face, like pictures 3&4.

Anything missing from this skimmer?

R u serious, u went to all that trouble just to get that picture for me? That is incredibly thoughtful and outgoing, i really appreciate that! *sorry for the delay, I have ongoing very distracting things going on, that I end up not getting around to quite a few things till much later:( I definitely want to thank you, though! -
weird black or blue wrasse identification please
Still_human replied to Still_human's topic in General Discussion
yeah, it was absolutely gorgeous at first, but sadly, and oddly, it actually got a lot less pretty as it got less stressed. the body lightened up from being almost black, to a dull dark blue, with 2 also dull, slightly lighter blue stripes along the length, and it’s pretty blue face marking, and trim faded to a duller, much less visible blue:( i just don’t have a place for lyretail wrasses right now, so that’s why i didn’t get it before, but i was very glad later, when i saw its non-stressed, way less attractive colors. -

even though this “mystery” wrasse is the same size as the other red sea cleaners i’ve come across, i did originally considered the potential age/growth issue too, as well as possible regional variations, but from all i’ve found, juveniles and adults of these red sea cleaners have the same shape and patterns, and all, and since all pictures i’ve found anywhere look the same, i’m assuming there aren’t major regional differences. The wrasse in question’s blue stripes are similar to the one in the link you provided, except still even significantly dimmer. i know color/intensity is very variable, but i’ve never seen any in pictures or in person, even a very stressed out cleaner, with stripes as dim as this one, let alone an acclimated, that’s up and about, and eating. i wouldn’t consider something like intensity of stripes as significant, if it wasn’t for the other differences. even if it was some red sea cleaner mimic, i’d imagine it would look more similar, both shape and colors. -

it’s supposed to be a red sea cleaner wrasse, and today it does have the same blue stripes, although they’re extremely dim compared to real red sea cleaners, but despite the same stripes, and even same mouth, there significant differences that i don’t think can be reconciled. it seems to have a noticeably different shape, the fins are shaped a bit different, it doesn’t have the 2 dark black dots on the back of the anal and dorsal fins, it DOES have that unusual blue pattern under the eyes, which i can’t find any pictures of the cleaners with anything like that, but the biggest tell to me, is that the tail is EXTREMELY different, both in color, and complete shape. this appears to be some weird lyretail wrasse with a cleaner wrasse mouth. -

it looks black in most light, but sometimes it looks very dark blue, like in the picture. that very faint blue stripe down its length is actually present, it’s not just from the lighting. it appears to be some sort of lyretail wrasse, but i can’t even find anything CLOSE, lyretail or not. -

many disappearing fish over time!!! ...?
Still_human replied to Still_human's topic in General Discussion
i had noticed that in my tank, even tho they always school in at the store. mine seemed to get along fine, after they seemingly got rid of one or two, early on. it was usually 1 by itself and 2 sort of together, but they weren’t aggressive to eachother. all 4 chromis schooled together until eventually one became more independent, but also no aggression. has anyone heard that halloween hermits are potentially dangerous to fish? what about other hermits when they get larger, like quarter-size? i’ve always heard scarlets are perfect gentlemen, but only a couple are scarlets, and there’s a halloween, and then at least a couple of few large assorted(maybe zebra, maybe red leg, maybe some other type, i’m not sure). -

by any chance, was it a type of bristletooth tang? -
i can’t BELIEVE i’m doing this AGAIN!! my big led fixture just had 3 of the 4 panels stop working at once(does anyone have any suggestions about what happened/way to fix?) apparently i need new lighting. i was looking at reviews, and they seem so bias, and unreliable. i can’t find anything that’s either highly rated by the site, but ALSO highly rated by consumers, and also cheap! this will be my 5th system:( and the first 4 i was insanely unhappy with:(:(:( the only other absolute requirement is that it can’t be accessible just through an app. it MUST be completely workable and adjustable from the unit itself. can anyone help me out, and give me thoughts on what would possibly fit what i’m looking for?
-
someone ordered me a basket star instead of a feather star, and i THOUGHT their care was pretty much the same as feather stars, but it snatched a full krill i had put in for the hermits to eat, and seems to be gnawing on it! do they eat/feed off of large things? seeing it with the krill makes me worry that it might even catch live little fish! i want, and plan, once my other problem is solved, on having a tank full of little gobies and such, so i don’t want something ELSE snatching up all my fish!
