  1. Oh wow, but that’s not the same thing. The one I’m posting about is supposed to b the pale yellow, not intense or brightly colored
  2. Has anyone ever seen a yellow torch like this before?
  3. Very good point! Always thought they had a very large amount of intake flow, way more than a tube, but it’s hard to tell from little pictures. Is the flow rate pretty low?
  4. How long did the box fail after the lifter failed? I don’t know if they’re not even meant to run without the lifter, in which case that sucks, but if it CAN, that would seem fine. I always thought the almost COULDNT clog, since it’s not a thin tube at all, it’s a space that runs the entire width of the box, isn’t it? So it has like 5”+ of length to need to get clogged, right?
  5. How do you guys deal with air getting into the siphon tubes bringing water from the inside box of an overflow box, to the external box? Other than using an aqualifter on the ones with just a flat sealed cover, do you just have to periodically remove the tube and start the siphon over? I drilled holes in mine and attached airline that hangs down into the sump, so hopefully any air would get sucked down as soon as little amounts got in the tube, but it doesn’t do that all that well, the airline just makes it easy to restart, by just sucking the other end and putting it back under water in the sump, but they’re getting old and air builds up relatively fast and can stop the siphon within short periods. I was going to get an aqualifter box, but some people were talking about them being bad, partly because even little snails getting in will jam them, and potentially cause overflows(onto the floor). What is everybody’s feelings on those? What do you guys all use? Are you stuck just restarting the siphon regularly? *i know the easy solution is drilling the tank, but that’s not something I really want to do.
  6. Well, iv got the fixture set up, so half my tank looks great. I’m thinking I’ll just leave the big LED fixture up too, turn it down, and use THAT as a supplemental. That way I have a huge control over the visual range, and i have potentially enough light to ignite the corals on fire!
  7. Yeah, maroons are jerks! And it seems like very few Lightning’s still have the best looking lightning “strikes”, anymore:(
  8. Oh cool, thanks! Im gonna need to get another one, so that’s a huge help! And yeah, the average price I’m seeing for just an arm mount is like $65-$70, and can be upto $80+!
  9. EXACTLY!!!! It’s just too much to deal with! That’s why I’ll only go for anything that has minimal adjustable options. Turning up and down the actinics and light intensity. That’s more than enough for me! I love all the stuff that’s just plug in and go! Love it!
  10. What kinds? I would be going for the smaller ones, so those are what I’m specifically hoping to hear 1st hand info about, but I’m still happy to hear how much u guys like them, even if they are the much bigger/stronger ones than I’d be needing:)
  11. Is there anything other than a PAR meter that can give u relevant info about lighting intensity levels? PAR meters are just so expensive. I’m having such a hard time figuring out how to adjust stuff with vague LED fixtures! I have no idea where to put things that might seem like they aren’t at their best. More light? Less? Much more? Much less? Is there maybe some equation that can be used to figure lighting or PAR levels, using LED bulb wattages, light level percentages, height from water, and water depth? Lol I knew I was gonna hate dealing with LED systems long before I ever decided to give them a try!
  12. How does everyone feel about the kessil tunas, and aqualuminations? I have a 30 or 40 breeder that I’ll probably be upgrading the lighting for in the near future, since the 6 T5 fixture I have on it has started acting up. Or even for a smaller tank, or even nano in the future
  13. Ah, I didn’t know they were new like that. Yeah, I try to never get electronics when they first come out, I thought the Red Sea LED 50/90 had been out for awhile. I actually just(since my last message)bought a new used 50, cause it was apparently a great deal. I say new used cause they claimed they just got it in December but have had upgrade tanks and lights for it, so if that’s the case it’s still sorta new...ish, but I have to say the box looks immaculate, so I would imagine it couldn’t have been sitting around anywhere for very long...I don’t even keep boxes more than a couple weeks, maybe a month or so. I got the fixture and the mounting arm for $185shipped, so I couldn’t pass that up. Average used prices I’m seeing is $215 for just the fixture, generally before shipping, and then $80ish for the arm mount. I’ll get a new one for the 2nd, that way I can be sure the used one is working upto par(pun intended).
  14. I’ve just been reading that everyone has problems with them. They’re apparently great lights, but have to be taken apart to be fixed. The biggest part though is that I just can’t afford over $700 for them.
  15. U don’t think the red seas are all they’re cracked up to be? I’ve been hearing nothing but very good things about them
  16. I’ll look into Hydras. Is anyone familiar with the brand PopBloom?
  17. Awesome, thanks so much! I really should just stick with the Red Sea LED fixtures, but I keep coming across other things that catch my attention, and especially when they’re less money they really seem enticing. Those 90’s tho......that’s a lotta money:/
  18. While doing a search for the Red Sea reef LEDs these came up, and to be honest, when it comes to LEDs, specs still mean almost nothing to me. Do these appear to be good/great? I don’t know if that’s enough info in the description, but I didn’t want to just copy the whole description page unless it’s needed. What do you all think of these?
  19. A super-pygmy lightning plesiosaur......I think u may be on to something! I think eating algae and pooping trace elements might be a little TOO much to hope for, one should always try to keep their dreams somewhat reasonable, otherwise they’re just setting themselves up to be let down!
  20. I’ve seen it mentioned, but nothing about why, or what to do! My little guy seems as healthy as ever, but his lights seem to be almost out. They REFLECT light pretty well, which I can tell cause he leaves them uncovered a lot now, at least around feeding time, but Ive recently noticed how dim they’ve been getting, and now possibly out. It’s in my QT tank still, and I’ve never introduced any medications since the tank was set up for him, but I’m sure there’s residual copper in the rocks and everything. I didn’t think of copper as a big anti-bacterial agent! Is it? His lights didn’t start diminishing for many weeks.
  21. Lol a plesiosaur? Well, overlooking that they’ve been extinct for like 66 million years, and I’m quite sure you don’t have anywhere near a large enough tank, then you might be able to get away with it, depending on your reef. they’d probably be fine with corals, and any reef tank sized inverts, but they WOULD eat all fish of significant size.
  22. Thankfully, the day I was going to take a monti home, monti nudis appeared and started to damage, and lay eggs on it. I’ve seen plenty on dipping the montis, and how often, but nothing mentioning how long to continue the treating. How long should the treating continue?
  23. Oh geez, I’m so sorry! I thought made this thread on a fossil forum!!!!! Lol
  24. I don’t know what it actually IS, but someone called it an “appendate bone”, although I don’t know if that even exists, after trying to search for it. It’s apparently part of the appendage, I guess. Here it is. i dont recognize it, but it gives me an impression of the neck area, or tail.
