  3. Out of curiosity. Will it cover the holes or grow into them? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. So I now have three zoa frags mounted on plugs on my sand bed. Wanted to mount then to small rocks for aesthetics and space for them to grow. Looking for something flatish/convex about 2-3.5 inch dia. Any ideas on where to get something like that? My rock and rubble is reef saver and filled with holes and not appropriate. Can I make something like that out of quikcrete? Suggestions? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I'm in the same boat. Following along. Me - 75 gallon, already have. Thinking CPR overflow box because of cost. I'm most interested in where the holes get drilled in respect to the top. Can't seem to get firm guidance on exact location with a moderate amount of research done. Understand the positives of a CTC, but how much would acryllic CTC overflow run roughly?
  6. Is it still alive? If not, a bamboo skewer with a pointed end works well (know from experience).

  8. This is my first saltwater tank. Price and lack of knowledge were holding me back before, but I started out planning for a FOWLR. I quickly found out that the cost was much more than I expected and the knowledge, although is plentiful on the internet, requires some studying and figuring out. I ended up evolving from the FOWLR to corals. Here is my tank in the beginning- And here it is now- My anemone Brut and clown Rex Equipment 29 Gallon standard tank and stand Penquin 330 Hang-on-Back Filter Reef Octopus 1000 (2) Koralia PH Tunze 3155 Osmolater 30 lbs of Reef Saver Rock Evergrow IT2040 Livestock (2) Maroon Clowns (2) Damsels- Humbug and Blue Devil Green Long Tenacle Anemone Cleaner Shrimp Corals (all small frags) – Green Sinularia, Pineapple Tree Capnella, Gorgonian, Miami Hurricane Chalice (Enchinophyllia), Tuti Fruity Chalice (Enchinophyllia), Acanthastrea Echinata, Frospawn, Hammer, Green Star Polyps, Acan, Assorted Birdnests, Flower Petal Montipora, and Kelly Green Psammacora. I plan to get a bottom fish (goby or blenny) and maybe a pistol shrimp sometime in the future and will change to background to black next time I have the tank away from the wall. Advice given by members has been invaluable and truly my membership has been the best money I’ve spent on this “distraction”. Thanks so much! Now onto the next build while waiting for my corals to grow. Mara

  10. Following along on your build. Soooo impressed by your photos! They are absolutely beautiful! And I want to really want to thank you for the lessons learned posts. I've made my own and hope to learn what not to do, as well as what to do. Please keep posting.
  11. I understand shrimp sometimes molt with salinity changes. My cleaner molted within 24 hours of putting him in. Scared the crap out of me and I was so pissed that he was dead. He later was found cruising the tank. Hope it's the same for you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Oh Paul, I do enjoy your posts and read through your 40+ tank thread. Your perspective is refreshing and more so brought back some fond memories. I had the blessing of growing up as a child in Hawaii and the Bahamas. My parents made their own tank from start to finish and stocked it from the ocean using slurp guns. We all used to go to the jetty at night and spotlight the water and scoop with a fine mesh net. It was a surprise what we would get each time as well as providing live food for the tank. We once got a 1 inch eel that we got to watch grow until he got so big he started eating his tank mates. Circle of life I guess. That tank brought my mom and dad so much enjoyment, and when I read your posts I remembered that. So I thank you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I LOVE IT! It matches my 75 stand. You really need to make another one (for my cube:) Very nice work Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Beautiful tank! I love the look of a cube!
  15. My tank is devoid of any corraline algae. I thought my "live" purple rock from the LFS would spread it, however I now believe it's an aqua-cultured, dyed purple rock. I need to introduce some to the tank. Can anyone hook me up with some scrapings or a few pieces of encrusted rubble? I'll be at the meeting today. Thanks!
  16. Enjoying reading about this build. Beautiful tank!
  17. Sweet! Very pretty!
  18. I’m moving forward on setting up my 45g Tech Cube that I bought. I would like to place it in a niche next to my fireplace. I had a 20A dedicated circuit installed there. The previous owner of the tank, stand, and sump said that I might want to look into a different sump as the evaporation was significant. The problem with this is that the footprint of the stand is small and thus, cheaper, DIY solutions (can’t afford a custom sump right now) are limited. As I’m installing this in a niche, the side doors of the stand wouldn’t open. So I thought one idea would be to build a larger stand that could accommodate a larger sump. Here are the measurements – Tank - 24*18*24 Stand Interior Space – 22*13 Current Sump – 20*10*12 Niche Footprint – 31*23 Possible Replacement Sump – Eschopps RS-100 24*12*16, or a baffled standard aquarium Plan on running Mag5 return and SCA 301 Skimmer in sump. Also neither of my available sumps have an area for a refugium which I may want in the future. So looking for advice – Should I re-use old sump and maybe rework baffles? If yes, please look at diagram of old sump and make recommendations. Build new stand to fit niche, not tank? If so, would I need to build a box within a box to put 2*4’s under each corner of the tank for support? Any help would be appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
