  1. Well, that is quite inventive and thank you so much for the idea! I have a petrie dish that would probably work perfect! Gonna get creative this weekend
  2. Oh my goodness! That picture of him in amazing! What is that feeder? I haven't seem it before. What are you feeding? I have to have one!
  3. I bleach everything from my buckets, hoses, nets. I don't want to transfer anything from one tank to another or contaminant any of my cultures. I have been bleaching for years. As long and you rinse will and use prime you are good to go!
  4. That is awesome that you are trying! Thanks for posting your experience. Good to learn from everyone's experience since breeding seems to be so dang hard. Better luck next time!
  5. Holy Goodness you have a beautiful tank! Hate to go and look at mine after that Maybe after I get some more rock for hiding places I will look at getting one. I just love the small creatures with cool personalities. Makes the hobby personable.
  6. I was going to do a chiller on my tank, but can't cool the phyto and rotifers down. They are not looking too happy. Great idea on the fan! I thought about it but worried it wouldn't cool very much since it is pulling warm air, but definitely worth a go!
  7. If you are actually cycling the rock meaning that it was from the Ocean and you need to wait for things to finish dying off you need to do water changes every time the ammonia gets high. I would suggest a protein skimmer to decrease the time cycling. If you are meaning cycling your tank, like getting all of the bacteria ready to add fish then it just depends on the rock. I used Dr. Tims and it worked great and didn't have to do any water changes!
  8. Dave! What great information. I was getting ready to type everything I knew about copepods and you blew me out of the water! What a great resource of information we have in this forum!
  9. Wow how awesome! Looks like he is hunting. Do you have him in a low flow tank or is he in a regular tank? Thought I saw a clown fish body. I would love to get one for my reef.
  10. Lol, I guess it will be good for a 90 gallon. Nice to know that we have enough nerds together to sort that kinda stuff out! I will be coming to you all for all of my technical stuff from now on! Right on!
  11. Very cool, If you don't want extra ones guys you can always trade them in the forum!
  12. I use the felt socks from Bulk Reef. They do get "filled" quickly. I have been changing mine out every 5-6 days. They can be washed (according to bulk reef) in the washing machine. They recommend running an empty cycle first and then washing the socks with no detergent. I have just been rinsing my with water. Although I will have to try washing them soon as they are not coming out as clean as they were. I used the mesh filters and it might get out the really big items, but seemed like almost everything got through the sock. I think it grabbed some dog hair Hope that helps!
  13. Wow! I have never heard of a clown fish biting/attacking a coral like that. Is it close to its anemone? Like it might feel like its protecting it?
  14. Not to brag, but being in Florida, I have been stressing about needing to get an air conditioner for my garage as that is where my frags, phyto and rotifers are. It was 85 in the garage to day and my tanks were toasty. Guess it is better then dealing with the cold. Stay safe and warm everybody! Battery powered air pumps are always a good safety to have in case you lose power.
  15. That is an awesome pic! Hope to get one someday
  16. Totally looks like a Moorish Idol without the black markings. The top fin and mouth are definitely not a tang. Looks exactly like a stressed Moorish Idol (missing the elongation of its top fin) and missing the black on it. Just my guess
  17. I have actually done the same thing. I had a 120 that I planned on moving the sand immediately and...well...my lazy behind waited about 2 weeks because I just didn't want to deal with it. I ended up bleaching the sand using a bucket full of household bleach and tap water. One net full at a time until it didn't smell and then rinsing it a solution of Seachem's prime. Very labor intensive and taught be to not be so lazy some of the time.
  18. I used Dr. Tims and not sure about all of the bugs that come with the sand, but I do have lots of bacteria and my tank has stabilized nicely.
  19. I agree with Incredible Corals. Based on their eye color and yellow orange body color I would say that they are both Perculas. Based on their unusual markings and not very much black they are probably picassos.
  20. I love that you threw it in your neighbors yard! That made me smile =)
  21. I know this is a little late, but I wanted to post my experience with Dr. Tims. I built a 55 gallon frag tank and added 50 lbs of dead rock to the tank. I didn't add anything from another system or anything live so I could actually test out Dr. Tim's thoroughly. I added the bottom of Dr. Tim's and two ocellaris clownfish. I tested the water twice a day for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Ammonia: The highest level of ammonia I received was on day 5 at 2.0. It hovered at 2.0 for three days and slowly went down to .5 after 15 days. Nitrite was between 0.5 and 1 and went to zero on day 11. Nitrate showed up at 0.5 for two days starting on day 3 never showed up again. Hope that helps. It seemed to speed up the process considering that I didn't add anything live and almost a complete cycle in 15 days. Unfortunately my acrylic cracked where the bulkhead hole was drilled and I had to do an emergency tank change. (Just got better hole saw =)) I added a snail, crab and third fish on day 16 in the "new tank" I used 60% original water and the same rock. I added live sand and everything has remained at 0 for two days now. Wish I could have been more scientific but changing out the tank and doing a 40% water change in the middle kinda changed my plans. I will be setting up a 80 gallon rimless tank soon so I will use Dr. Tims to see if I can get a complete result.
  22. I am so very interested in your efforts! Let us know what progress you make. I am going to try to start with a few easier fish
  23. I drilled a hole in the bottom of the 20 long and it worked great! Getting ready to set up some breeder tanks. Gotta love that dollar gallon sale!
  24. Great looking zoos. Any update on how your frag tank is doing? Added anymore corals? I just set up 55 frag tank but haven't added any corals yet.
