Hi Jonathan, I think the science is now showing that 24-7 UV is no longer necessary particularly due to what it does to the microbiome. The consensus now is to use it only when you have a problem, like a bacterial bloom. As for clarity of water, I would reckon that Ozone and GFO is better. I am not sure what UV does for redox. I am still uncertain how to use ORP.

So this is the issue i am dealing with. I was running UV on my tank for years and my microbiome test shows Pelagibacteraceae is wiped out (See the attached pfd). The diversity of the tank is low and the tank look like a new tank even though it has been up for years (7). I did this test as my tank crashed and i lose ALL of my HUGE SPS colonies. LPS are fine. I also did a DNA test and the good news is that no coral or fish parasites or disease causing bugs were found. I have since turn off my UV. i will adopt the strategy of only running the UV if there is a problem. Why are you running a UV? Microbiome.pdf

If you are dosing Kalk or 2-part or a CaRx, stop dosing and allow it to come down.

So, my recent tank crash has really gutted me. I have loss all of my HUGE sps colonies, about 12. I some growing for over 8 years their size i was guess were from volleyball to pass basketball size. Here are two examples. So, has anyone kill bigger colonies?

Is the tank cloudy or a bit hazy? That would be signs of a bacterial bloom

I am thinking that you light spectrum could be adjusted a bit. PAR is a bit on the low side i think. You highest PAR is only 150uM. I think lps could use a bit more. Also, not familiar with those lights, but why so much uv?

If the tank is FOWLR, then a glass top would work.

Nothing short of a glass top. what are you having in the tank? Dont be so afraid of the evaporation. It is the solution to dosing KALk especially if you are growing lots of sticks
