Chris, I feel for your loss. That would really hurt me. Have you been able to update your emergency backup power situation? I have a power inverter and a deep cycle marine battery and a battery charger. You should get at least this much. I also have a battery backup for one of my MP40. The tank looks great.

There are already 3 2" bulkheads holding it up. They are evenly spaced. Still think it will need more support? Suggestions?

I wanted to show you guys [and gals] about my new build, a custom 180G upgrade. For 2 and a half years I have had a 90g tank that was doing quite well, i think. I have learned an awful lot and waned to go bigger. So last December i decided to make the more and have been planning looking at other tanks to get ideas for the tank and someone to help me with it. A fellow lady reefer {True Tricia ] recommend ERC for the job and I contacted Rich and he has been helping me with the build. So, down to the specifics; First think i did was call my electrician and had a separate 20 amp circuit installed solely for the tank Tank; standard 180g glass tank, 6x2x2 drill baby drill!!! I was going to go with a corner over flow, but then say Isaac's 180 with the custom overflow and concluded I must have one. So I did. We got a Modular Marine to build one. It is 5 feel long!!!!!! 60" The external box is 4" wide and 6" high with 3 drains held in place by 3 2" bulkheads. The internal box is 2'' wide. This thing is Sweet!!!!!!!!!!! Stand; Custom made stand that is 40" high. It had doors on ALL sides, except the back. This thing is build like a mack truck. I wanted access from all sides. I also had it water proof. No water of the floor, that was my goal [more to come on this] Sump; was getting a custom sump from Aquabox, but they went out of business before completing the build. So I went with the Trigger system sump. The TIDELINE 48. This thing is NICE!!! http://www.triggersys.com/test/tideline-specs-2/ Skimmer. I decided to go really BIG I went with the RO 9" Regal 220 INT. Congrats to you. I have 5 RBTA in my tank now. They just keep splitting. I have already donated 2 last year to my lfs. One completely decimated my xenia coral. Now i am back up to 5 and will have to get rid or 2 to 3 of them. I occasionally feed mine. Water is in the range of where i want it.

So, it seems like a few folks would be interested in storage tanks. I personally was more interested in the vertical tanks as the space I have is more suitable for some thing tall and thin, like my hot water boiler and not the horizontal ones sold by tractor supply. I have started a conversation with some one from Plastic-Mart and they have tons to choose from. see http://www.plastic-mart.com/category/109/plastic-storage-tanks These will ship from TN. I was trying to get a sense of shipping cost to this area and she said it would depend on how much we would get. She did give me a number for 10 of the VT0065. Cost would be about $250. So, I would be willing to continue talking with her, but I would need to get a pretty good idea of how many tanks and the sizes folks are interested in. So, those who are interested in tanks from this company, take a look at there site and let me know what sizes and how many you are interested in. I will then keep a list and see what interest we have.

So I did called ABBEY DRUM and got some information on the drums. The drums are $75. and they also have them in a clear and blue colors. the problem with these drums, is that they are tight head, meaning your cannot put a pump in them to mix salt unless you cut it open. I dont like that look :(

Anyone considering a group buy for some water storage tanks? I would like to get two 45-55 gallon tanks, one for RODI and the other for making salt water. Any suggestions? Much thanks

Hi guys, Thank you all for responding to my request for a "reef buddy". Since the guys at ERC are in the area, I will go with them. I can't take credit for this idea, but i think it is something everyone with a tank should have as many of us have lots of money invested in out tank, plus, we need to provide the best possible care for the animals. we owe them that.

Thanks Josh, I am just loving looking at this tank and do spend lots of time weekly doing maintenance and testing. This is why I would like to make sure that I do all i can to make sure it continues to do well

I am looking for a reef buddy. I realized that as I put more and more $ into my tank, I should not depend so much on the neighborhood kids to look over my tank when I am out of town. So, I am looking for an experinece reefer in the Wheaton area of Silver Spring to be my "reef buddy" and look in on my tank when I am out of town. I have a 90G mix reef tank with about 12 fish (see attached). I do have an apex controller and power backup options should I loose power but would love to have an experience person who would know what to do should something bad happen. Clearly I would be willing to do the same for someone, if needed.

I use a 1ml syringe. Fill it to exactly the 1ml mark then use the plunger to dispense 0.1ml (ie from 1 to 0.9 or from 0 to .1, depending on how the syringe is labeled). Having said that, i too have been seeing very strange results the the Ca checker. One day I got a reading of 473, 24 hrs later, re took the test and got 499 and did not add anything to the tank. go figure.
