  1. You are actually right Mr 703... there is too much contrasting info out there on LEDs. I been reading up on forums in Reef Central, looking at companies that sell LEDs online, etc and some say whites and blues others say mixed. I borrowed a LED with just blues and whites from a friend and the corals look really good, and they pop. I just don't understand why businesses would sell, or people would even want, a LED with colors other than the blues and whites. Rob came over to test the parameters and everything looks good. Could add a little more calcium but rest is good. I'm in negotiations right now to buy 2 D120s with just blues and whites and will be selling my MH/T5 combo fixture soon, hopefully. 1 D120 doesn't cover the whole tank so I have to go with 2. Now the great mystery to me is why do blues make oranges, reds, yellows, and greens pop? It's blue so blue should pop, right? I'll get there, eventually. I appreciate everyones help and the responses and I apologize for my lack of participation. Hopefully this info will help everyone else who is looking to buy LEDs.
  2. How can someone "see" dead spots? I have a 90 gallon and the rock structure is open on one end and kind of closed on the other end. I don't get good flow from my 2 loc-line returns so I have 1 1200 maxi-jet on each end (one pointing to the front and one to the back) with a Wavemaster Pro connected to them. I think this is working fine for now (I say for now because the maxijets make a loud humming sound when alternating) but want to get into 2 MP-10s. Do you think 2 mp10s will work in a 90 gallon tank? can you recommend another brand comparable to mp10s? thanks
  3. I'm overwhelmed by the amount of information posted regarding LED lights, colors, watts, lumens, PAR, yada yada yada.. I just need to ask because I'm stressed out about this. Do I need different colors in a LED light fixture (red, green, orange, magenta, ultraviolet) or can the LED fixture be made up of blues and whites and still get the color pop effect? I want my corals and LPS to pop and they aren't with my T5 and MHs. Everything is looking brown and tan and i'm tired of it. My hot pink paly that I just got from a fellow member is BROWN! :( Tell me what to do...get a LED light fixture with or without colored LEDs. Thanks
  4. Thanks for the responses everyone. I did notice the little clown is hosting in the RTBA now so maybe his spots are from the new hosting. As for the Benny, he is still rubbing up against everything. Is it bad to treat all my kids for ich even if they don't have it? Will it hurt them in any way? I would like to do it just in case they do have ich but won't if it'll hurt them.
  5. Where should the frag be placed in pic#1 go?
  6. I think my buddies have black ich as I noticed the black spots on one clown are getting worse, the other clown has a spot now, and my starry blenny is rubbing up against the rocks and sand to scratch himself. I plan to QT them but need some help with treatment. I have a 20g QT set up (carbon removed, glass bottom, pvc pipes for hiding) and want to buy Formalin MS to treat Black Ich. I have to order it online and won't get it for another week. Is there is something I can buy local that will treat this? Here's a pic of the one clown with black spots. Thanks!
  7. The water in my sump got low and the pump ended up blowing out microbubbles. Those microbubbles were on everything and stayed for a few days but then disappeared. If your bubbles are small, this might be the reason.
  8. I used the dip and it worked great! The slimy goo was flowing afterwards but that all went away soon after. The ricadora coral actually grew already. I'm amazed. I didn't dip my Aussie elegance or any of my softies as I thought it would harm them. Can I dip softies (anemones) too? Wear a mask because I got a major headache from the fumes.
  9. This was my first time at FF and had a great time. Jumping from line to line trying to get the frag that I wanted was not fun but worth the effort. I came home with 6 free frags on top of the 3 I bought. The vendors had some good looking frags and great deals too. Now I need to get a bigger tank. Thank you WAMAS leadership!
  10. The black dots are distinct and seem to be getting worse. He doesn't hang around stinging corals. He eats fine and sleeps fine (I think). No red marks either.
  11. The pic with the blue background is the Clarkii that i'm worried about. The other Clarkii is the larger of the 2 and now shows a small black dot on it's side too. The larger hosts in a condi but the smaller doesn't host in any anemone Should I put them both in the QT? What meds should I use? Is this a fungus?
  12. Ah, didn't realize it was this easy to set one up. I'll remove the rock and sand tonight. I am a little concerned about one of my Clarkii as he is starting to have black dots on him. First there was a large black dot on his belly but now I noticed lighter dots/blotches on his backside, near his dorsal fin. Any thoughts on what the cause of the black blotches are? Thanks for the help all.
  13. Hi all - I've set up a 20 gallon QT and put some dead live rock in that I had baking outside for a month. I used RODI water, put a little bit of sand in the tank (maybe 3-4 lbs) a heater, set the salinity at 1.25, a HOB filter that came with the tank (bought from Petco) and the dead rock (i'm guessing 10 lbs). I don't plan to use it for at least a month or 2 so that it has time to cycle. The rock was live before letting it dry up outside. It's mainly rubble from my DT that I wasn't using anymore. I took the rubble from outside and put it in QT. Is this ok? Do I need to take the rock out and cure it (put in a covered bucket with a heater and air pump for a month) before putting it in the tank? Since i'm not going to use it for awhile, can I just let the rock cycle within the QT? I guess i'm trying to ask if there is a proper way to set up a QT. Thanks for your help!
  14. Can I swap the chalice I bought a couple days ago for this, purty please :-/
  15. I'm so impatient! Grrr...

  16. I'll take 25 too. How do I pay? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  17. The smaller was with a larger one at the LFS. They aren't lock-jawing it so its all good, for now. We'll see how it goes.
  18. Thanks for the info. The smaller one is about 1" and the larger about 1.5-2"
  19. I traded my female Clarkii #1 because she was beating up on Clarkii #2, whom I thought was female since they were the same size. I bought another Clarkii #3 that is half the size of Clarkii #2 to keep her company but now Clarkii #3 is portraying dominance towards #2. I'm confused because I thought the larger ones are female and the smaller are male. Also, why are they now hosting in a Condi when I have RTBA?
  20. Can you give a newbie any tips for aquascaping? I have a 90 and have a mountain of rock in it. I'm not very creative.
  21. It was great meeting everyone. I got some good deals although I wish I would have bought some powerheads. When is the shop going to open up again for retail? I want a few of those 7.00 powerheads.
  22. Hi all - partner bought this frag a couple months ago and he says it was green before we added it to our tank. I thought it had died but it appears to be coming back as little green bumps are forming. Any idea what this coral is? Is this considered a SPS or LPS (i'm new to corals). The red arrows point to where some of the green bumps are forming. They are starting to come out of the entire coral now. Thanks for the help and sorry for the rotten pic. It looked good on the iphone when I took it this morning but didn't come out so well. Frank
  23. Thanks! I have the plants in there for color, for now. I'm just starting to add corals to the tank so the plans will be gone soon. Yeah, the mantis needs to go and will once I find him. I see the remains of my hermits every now and then so I'm thinking he's munching on them for snacks.
