Unless the tank is really bad with cyano, personally, I would just increase flow, and let it cycle. You can try scraping and doing a WC, but ultimately, those nutrients are going to need to get used up somehow. And like I said, it's just O2.

It's just oxygen. A byproduct of photosynthesis performed by cyano or algae.

Loco's 59g rimless tank build
wangspeed replied to londonloco's topic in Dedicated Tank (Build) Forum
I did start one but I didn't put many pics of the little frags in it. Some of them are growing like crazy though!!! http://wamas.org/forums/topic/60730-warrens-90-gallon-zeovit-tank/ I have had a small number of frags fail but not many. Likely due to OD during dipping. I'm pretty aggressive with the Bayer. -- Warren -

Unfortunately no. I don't have room. I've been requested to keep them all within the stand. Have to go longer with the next tank. -- Warren -

Tank is doing very well. Corals continue to thrive. Going to look at a Laboutei wrasse tomorrow that I have on hold at Marine Scene. Somehow I managed to transfer digitate hydroids to the new tank from my old tank. I'm so pissed. I even nuked the little live rock that I transferred in RODI, and dipped the old frags in Bayer. Sigh. I ordered up a Jebao DC12000. Severe overkill, but they don't have the 9000 at Fish Street. Going to swap the return pump out, and set it up to power a water change system too. I'm lazy, what can I say. Plus I need extra capacity, because my return splits to feed the fuge section with my Zeovit reactor and mini fuge. -

Just found this thread. Happy to see another Zeovit user in the area! I'm actually in Manassas too. Looks like we even started our tanks near the same time. I've had SPS in my Zeo tank 2 weeks in, and I started with dry rock, though I did cycle them in the garage for 2 months prior. Religiously fed it Zeobak and SP. All my corals are taking off, and my phosphates remain near 0 according to my Hanna meter. Re: red bugs, I would be surprised if they are red bugs. They are too small to see any details on them. Certainly not antennae. I agree with Jason, user Bayer to dip ALL corals going into the tank. It knocks out pretty much every SPS save aiptasia or digitate hydroids. Don't ask me how I know about those 2 surviving :( -
Wet skimming?! Smoke? And percentage of poop removed
wangspeed replied to gmerek2's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I have a high tech system ready to go. An old juice bottle, soda lime, and a dremel For now, I just crack the windows, and dose kalk. I never had kalk into the plans for this new tank til I saw the effect of CO2 on PH. Like Londonloco, I run a Zeovit tank. I skim a little wet on an oversized skimmer. Hard to believe there's someone else in Manassas running a zeo tank! gmerek2: Just watch the soot and PH. Even a clean burning wood stove in its optimal heat range will still generate some soot inside the house. I highly doubt it will effect the skimming itself, unless you get oily residue into the tank, which would definitely increase the surface tension of water, and result in poor skimming. -

Your assumption is that you're taking air in from an outside source. I would venture to say that 99% of us simply use recirculated inside air. When our gas oven or stove is on, I can watch my PH on my 90 gallon aquarium plummet very quickly (7.6 or lower), due to CO2 levels, unless I crack the window by the aquarium. I'm not talking about the typical PH swing from lack of photosynthesis. -

More than skimming, I would say it's a concern for CO2 levels, and severely low PH. -

Hmm, very valid concerns. My original plan was to have a partition for electronics, but that was with a 5' custom tank/stand. My wife vetoed that, and I had to shrink it, and she doesn't want anything outside the stand :( I'm afraid I'll have to manage what I have for now. Everything is on GFCI, ground wire, and surge protectors. Definitely something I will revisit on the next tank though. Hoping I'll have more horizontal space Tank related: Found 2 tiny aptasia that came in on a rainbow acan. Nuked with prejudice. Praying it doesn't spread. -

Why? Humidity concerns? The back of the stand is open and it isn't all the way against the wall due to the window sill. -- Warren -

2 months in, just about. Including cycling time. I've got coralline popping up on all the plastic surfaces and wires. SPS and others growing well. -- Warren -

Epoxy will always do that to your skimmer. This is one of the reasons why a DC powered skimmer is so nice. Just dial it down til things get back to normal. I don't have a good answer for you though.

Reef Breeders Photon 48. It's a 2 channel with integrated controller 4' long which covers the tank perfectly. Getting great growth from my montis already. I threw all the frags in temporary places. It's only been 3 weeks for some of those frags and the mystic sunset has already started encrusting the rock! Guess that one is in it's final location. -- Warren -

It's a Marineland 90. Modified so that the overflow section is a Herbie drain and the return is on the opposite side. 2 pumps for movement. WP25 and WP40. One on wave and the other on else. The WP25 shuts off for 4 hours at night to give the fish and LPS/zoas a break. 29 gallon sump. I'll take pics of that when I get the chance. It started off really organized and now it's a bit of a mess :( -- Warren -
Finally ponied up for a membership. Thought I would post a few pics of my recent build. It's an atypical Zeovit tank from the start. Started with a mix of dry Pukani and BRS Reef Saver. I also dose kalk for now, which was an unexpected change of plan due to CO2 levels in the house. I'll go into more detail when I have time, my 2 year old just woke up FTS Oct 2, 2013 FTS Jan 8, 2014

Almost all of them are based off the same hardware, from the same place. I'm not sure about the Jebao though.
-
Not sure if it's too late for this thread, but yes, you should feed it something, like ammonium chloride, zeovit sponge power, food, etc. I cycled 80-90 lbs of dry rock by acid washing them (this is critical!!!), and then dumping them into a bucket with a heater, in my garage. If it's warm enough, you don't need the heater, but I crank it up to 85F to speed things up. You'll need very good surface agitation too, especially if you are heavily feeding the bacteria. Look up fishless cycling for full details. I've done it twice with very good success so far.

I'd love to have one, but they seem to only last a max of 2 years (even pearlys). A pass for me.

I'm tempted to try a Jebao 6000 return. I currently have a RO DC3500, which I'm sure must be in the same boat as your Wavelines, since they all came from the same place at some point. I regret undersizing it now. I didn't take into account that I was going to tee off the return to feed the fuge. Don't see why I'd pay more for the Waveline or RO name if it's going to be any less reliable than the Jebao.

Brian, just wanted to say your setup looks really great. Wish I knew about you before I ended up making my stand decision. I have the same problem. HVAC floor register (I hate these for many reasons!!!). I ended up building a riser to a Marineland Monterey. Looks pretty good, but yours is a good notch above Tank looks great. Keep it up.
