  1. I have a old one with different brands parts. Got it cheap when I first dive into this hobby. Pretty happy with it's performance. I did added an auto shutoff system to it for less the $25. Auto shutoff save my butt many time already. Should I need a new one , i would get a used one again ( to me they are all the same).
  2. Sorry it's was the current usa 130w pc fixture.I switched to led on my 125G close to 2 years now with no issue. With this setup, i started out around 30% and increased 5-10% each day. This tank has lots of rubbles, chaeto and macro. I think it might be a combination along with the light that causes the outbreak. I am reduce it to 6 hours cycle and slowly tune it back to 12 or so hour assuming i can take it under control.
  3. Cyano is much easier to control...has that when i switch to led on my 125. Still get the once a while.
  4. Never encounter problem with my light upgrade on my 125 mix reef! This is strange, happen almost within the week after swapping out the light.
  5. 13 hours/day on a dual 65w pc (10k, 420nm and 460nm) Around 60%. Not sure about layout since I was not original owner. It has some red and green led (hate those color, will swap them out one of these day)
  6. I recently swapped out my t5 for a d120 led (I removed all the optics for better coverage) on my 29G anemone tank. After a few days I noticed bubbles trapped on LR rocks and back of tank. Then within the next few days everything started to get ugly! algae films that appears to be either dino...(I can't spell the rest) or calothrix. I should have snap a few pics for better ID. Anyway, I went ahead and reduced intensity on the LED as well as light cycle; H2O changed (15%); light-out for 36 hours. Today, all the algae appears to starved out. clean PH and return pump and increase return pump output a bit. Also, get ready for another 15% WC. I hope this will be enough to get rid of those algae. I read that some people had to take down their tank to treat dino. Just wonder how can a light upgrade can cause such outbreak? So far my 2 GBTA are pissed off and moved around. They has rarely moved since I placed them in there. RBTA did not move, fish don't seem to mind. Snails, however seem unhappy!
  7. yep! let them rest/recovered.
  8. Great job! Beautiful tank and livestock.
  9. Point a powerhead at it's foot. Most of the time, It will release from the wall.
  10. my large fuge have fish in it ! I manage to rescue a small tiny branch before the fish chow them down. I threw it into my anemone fuge to see if it survive. The only reason I got it was for the display, so grow it in the fuge beat the purpose!
  11. Got it on RC members. Reefcleaners offered tiny 3" piece! Looks like my fish made a good snack out of it, I don't think i can afford to feed them that again. Will need a fish less tank to grow them.
  12. I bought a good sized portion of flame algae thinking of adding some color to my tank and refugium. The flame algae arrived yesterday and I divided it into 2 portions and tied each to the rocks. One placed into my 29 anemone tank and the other went in my 70 refuge. Well, today I discovered that my fish ate them all :( bummer! I guessed they really like it.
  13. Yep! it got spaces in there but hard to it it in with out taking the cabinet apart. As for cleaning the sump! I personally has never clean my sump/refuge. You can suck out the debris with a hose during water changes. I don't see any reason to physically remove the sump to clean it. Beside, you sump contain various life/good grow of bacteria and algae.
  14. There was a guy around my area a while back with a 72 bowfront. If my memory served me correctly, I believed he made a 20 sump but could not fit it into the cabinet. he ended up with a 10. Is there a center support in the middle between the 2 doors? I would measure the it first to make sure you can turn the sump before you attempt to swap it out.
  15. Huh! That's exactly what I said!
  16. Try level on the stand. My 30 years of keeping aquariums, I have never seen tank cracked from not sitting flat;)
  17. I used to freaked out from "algae" when I first start reefing. After awhile, I no longer care. They come and go. You can control it by manually labor.
  18. No rotifers! So I don't even try. Between my 2 pairs (in two separate tanks). They spawned 2-3 times each months.
  19. Will temporary prevent ATO from kicking on and off, but won't solve your problem in long term. Water will evaporate and back to ato water level. One would assume that it's going to be the opposite since bigger wave will dump more water into the overflow! Nonetheless, if your overflow can't keep up with your return pump, why not put a valve on the return hose and adjust the valve until the return is equal to the overflow?
  20. You can raise the level. But make sure it not going to flood your sump if you have a power out or return pump failure.
  21. Sorry to hear.
  22. I use magnet cleaner to hold the cage/box!
