  1. Why 7? Not much room in case of anything. I like 9...gives me room up and down and mid point for frags from people...since some run at 10/11 and 8 Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
  2. nah.....we are all here for you....no told you so's......just good old friendship helping each other to succeed not that we aren't all saying it in our heads
  3. welcome home and thats great news....pretty much what was to be expected...just a big wc/cleaning day but no drama.....thats what I usually come home to after the pet sitter over feeds the "starving" fish
  4. jack I use RC and to be honest my numbers have never changed from a 45 gallon weekly water change on my 180, not even a blip on the alk radar. You have to come to grips with dosing LOL...it's time grasshopper....ask Isaac...he is coming along kicking and screaming....and we are still pulling him by the ear.
  5. I don't ever touch dosers wc or not......I set it and forget it.....
  6. make sure you update us when you get home today!!!
  7. hmmmm I have never had one...I think they may be too creepy for me! lol
  8. I like somewhere around 9.....I like it for its room to be able to increase or decrease and also as middle ground for any frags I get from other people.... just me $0.02
  9. my serpents are now diurnal...as soon as they hear me near the tank they come running out and put there legs up in the water column until I feed them ....lazy bones...but I always feed them because it blows my mind watching their bodies inflate and get huge lol
  10. my maroon gold stripe is exactly same. evil $%$#!^* but i have had him about 12 years...first salt water fish...so as much as i hate him i am loyal to him lol
  11. mine plays hide and seek with my daughter...hysterically fun fish...you will love it..but if you don't buy it in person grab it from DD or a place that will send you pic of exact fish....so you get a bright yellow with blue eyes....some of them the color is dull etc....
  12. I really like the orange strip too...beautiful fish...pairs with a pistol too. my midas is like a puppy...they have amazing personalities...they are very interactive with you
  13. Brian, you seem to continually make your reef more and more breath taking...can't wait to see this with some more coral on it.. great job!
  14. its not just the brrying of corals...it will create all sorts of hills etc in the sand and I know that will drive brad insane every day LOL... agreed, the blue spot has a very low survival rate...the yellow head has a higher percentage, but all the same issues...
  15. like I said Jawfish are my by far my favorite fish, but they don't have a record of longevity in tanks....you are so OCD about your tanks I have a feeling you will resent it in the end lol... but they do have very specific special requirements
  16. I know they make multiple tunnels so it's best to have the rock elevated on something so the rock doesn't shift if contact is disrupted and kill the fish trapping it under the rock..I was going to cut some pvc discs and use that to elevate the rocks so the fish can't disrupt but I could still cover the pvc under sand. I have an engineer goby in my lps/softy tank and didn't do this and he has caused many rock slides...
  17. Ugh that's awful. Blue spot Jawfish is my favorite fish. I blew it not putting one in my tank first and now it's too late...tank is too active and it will stress the fish out. Are your rocks on the glass or on the sand?
  18. Lol this thread is from October and he lives in California now
  19. Looks great...but the war coral looks pretty lonely over there...
  20. awww great pic, I want a jawfish so bad but I have a very active tank and from what I know that really stresses out the jawfish unless you put it in first....so someday I will have to just set up a jawfish tank to enjoy one...
  21. Honestly, I never did before this last tank I set up...I used to be pretty cavalier about dosing and keeping things rock steady....and I was always pretty darn happy with my tanks. When I decided to set the 180 up last year and REALLY commit to it and getting it as completely automated as i could to make me successful with keeping up with it (I am inherently a very lazy person so after the initial newness wears off I lose the energy to stay up on things day after day) I am shocked at the success of the tank. Isaac asked me to take some pics and I really do need to do it because I am just so amazed that I barely touch this tank at all and it is my most successful SPS tank in the last 12 years. I really do contribute that to nothing else but stability, which I directly contribute to the BRS dosers that do all the work and keep the numbers rock solid. Pretty quickly after I set them up I started to notice a difference in PE extension and color and growth, but a couple of months later the corals exploded. I started my entire tank with frags that were are tiny 1-1.5" frags...it was seriously ridiculous looking for a very long time... SET THEM UP
